Everyone thanks for the top link and code. I need to wait till next month to shop I think as I ordered the Whistles top that QueenC linked (fab but massive so I need to exchange it for a small or even xs), and am also picking up that Hobbs skirt tomorrow. If the skirt is good then that’s my spending this month done unfortunately. Funny as I never would have associated sequins with holidays (always spell Christmas for me). Is that weird?
Kitty i’m not off until July so a while to go but can’t wait.
The Dressing Room posted pics of their lovely team on Insta and one of them was wearing some fab tailored shorts so I may take a look tomorrow.
Lib so much huge change for you. Sending you a big squeeze and a smack in the face for that woman.
Lovely 3 day weekend here. The perfect blend of time at home and catching up with friends. And we finally got to enjoy our new garden now that it is finished - although I still freak out every time miniShop walks across the glass well cover Grin
I’ve missed loads again! Need to read further back.

shopafrolic · 08/05/2018 07:07

Morning. Loving the Met Gala dresses

QueenCornflower · 08/05/2018 07:35

Omg shop there’s some horrors in there! Wasn’t even impressed by Kate moss’ outfit.

MarshaBradyo · 08/05/2018 08:46

Not Kate’s best look

Struggling to find good ones, it’s pretty much fancy dress

Why do the Olsen twins always get snapped with the same 3/4 pose

MarshaBradyo · 08/05/2018 08:52

If I had to pick Joan Smalls looks incredible

FedupNagging · 08/05/2018 09:16

If you judge the met gala as fancy dress there's some fantastic outfits - thought Cardi B look resplendent for want of a better word but did wonder how Katy Perry would fare if she needed to visit the Ladies Grin

So much to catch up on which I'll do later but wanted to send some Flowers & hugs to Lib - it's a massive lifestyle change for you so you're bound to have the odd wobble.

Hope everyone had a good weekend with such glorious weather. Both the cropped flares and espadrille wedges had their first outing and I'm loving both.

maradesbois · 08/05/2018 09:52

Hello,

So happy with the glorious weather. We have lived in the garden too, a tiny space here but so sunny and scented with gorgeous wisteria and jasmine. I braved Homebase yesterday with ds where we got lots of plants and seeds and fairy lights.

Lib Never forgotten! A mu will not be the same without you!!! Seriously, have been going through some career and life-related shit lately that would’ve loved your take on over an after work glass of wine. Sounds like you are getting on amazingly though. I think starting work and the house stuff has hit you a bit hard as it represents the end of the carefree holiday period of your move. Now it is real life with all its stresses and mundanities but nonetheless you’ll feel settled in no time. Will pm you, been meaning to for ages.

Had a quick look at met gala outfits. Of the costumey ones I think Riri was definitely queen, for me she triumphed over sjp and Katy Perry who was going for the limelight but too victoria’s secret. Among the more classic red carpet looks there were loads of gold dresses, agree with Marsha that Joan Smalls was fabulous.

Dry I read your comments with interest and btw your dds recent fashion advice sounds good. She is growing up! The dresses you linked (warehouse I think?) looked lovely though and very you. Are you keeping them? I am guilty of going too much the other way and rejecting the high st completely (apart from ts jeans) in favour of fewer but higher quality expensive items. I realised though when switching my wardrobe over that some of my favourite summer things include a white linen gap dress that is well over ten years old and still looks great. Also still loving the h&m flowery dress from last year. For this summer I plan to get another couple of high st (h&m price level) dresses, maybe some sandals, a silk camisole and that’s it.

kitty love your new tops, particularly the Breton. Ds has the ‘enfant terrible’ one!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 08/05/2018 09:57

Thanks for the link shop, really enjoyed looking at those outfits! Actually prefer some of the crazy ones because they make the more standard dresses look boring Grin

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 08/05/2018 10:05

I got a bit burned on my arms at the weekend, tried to stay in the shade but our SW-facing garden is a bit of a sun trap. We had PILs over for some DIY jobs that needed doing and a run to the tip recycling centre. The house feels nice and decluttered now, so I can focus on getting nice things for the nursery :)

Marsha one of the Olsen twins looks so haggard! I'm sure they're only mid thirties, such a shame.

Lib it's bound to be a time of ups and downs, but you will get settled and you know what's best for your dd. Soon you can focus on your lovely new house (have been enjoying your inspo pins).

Fedup cropped flares and espadrille wedges sounds super stylish!

Shop your garden sounds lovely and I bet the well cover looks great.

Ugh it's sooo hot.

QueenCornflower · 08/05/2018 10:53

I forgot that there’s a theme so actually the dresses are ok!

lib I’m so annoyed on your behalf at the teacher saying that about lack of commitment. I wouldn’t even expect that to be said to dd1 (12) ad it’s not a flakey reason, it’s tiredness and about balance.

shopafrolic · 08/05/2018 11:58

LOL QueenC it's supposed to be an out there event - that's why I love it.
I took the Whistles top back but they didn't have the size down in store so have ordered for home delivery. I also picked up this Hobbs maxi skirt which I had ordered with their 20% off code.
I now need a top to go with it probably in white, emerald green or fuchsia. The navy is really dark and impossible to match to. Ideally something similar to the Whistles one that QueenC found me.
I'm also on the lookout for smart (ish) black shorts after you all said they'd be good for my mini holiday.

MarshaBradyo · 08/05/2018 12:11

Blair just looked again and yes she does rather. The other looks really bright eyed and younger - maybe she’s lost too much weight. I just googled and found 35 things you did not know about the Olsen twins Wink and they are Not identical twins - who knew!

Mara agree on Katy Perry actually I think she’s my least favourite but I struggle with her hair style anyway

Lib it makes sense that after the whirlwind of a huge holiday it will now take time to adjust. We’re here whenever you want to chat and the mu will not be the same

It was nice sending everyone back to work and school today, and being in the quiet sunny house, best thing about not working

MarshaBradyo · 08/05/2018 12:13

Kitty love that top

Shop good work on skirt

Fedup fab outfit

MarshaBradyo · 08/05/2018 12:14

Everyone cute lemon tops

QueenCornflower · 08/05/2018 13:10

shop have you tried the boden shorts? I really like them although I ordered some more this year and they didn’t fit the same annoyingly for me. Otherwise oasis and warehouse often have smartish shorts. Don’t the dressing room have American vintage vests?

kittyhello · 08/05/2018 13:38

Shop was about to recommend Boden and/or JCrew for shorts. You can choose the length too.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 08/05/2018 15:00

Re shorts, I have a really nice high waisted smart black pair from Zara (a few years ago, but worth a look) - rubbish pic here.

Everyonelovessparkles · 08/05/2018 15:26

lib I can’t believe the hockey teacher said that to you! If you were unsure before, that behaviour would have convinced me to take her out regardless. I’m not surprised the impact of the move has hit you now. Now you have a house and a job real life has started so it’s not surprising you are feeling emotional. You will be missed at the MU.

I hadn’t really thought about sequins being a winter v summer thing. I guess it depends on the item and what you pair it with.

I think the MET ball is more and more like a costume ball, apart from Anna wintour who seems to make minimal effort to embrace the theme every year. Kate Moss didn’t look great in her individual photo but looked a bit better in the group shot, so maybe it was just a bad photo? Ageee that the Olsen twins both look a bit haggard. I think one of them had a serious eating disorder which is maybe the one who looks older?

Green might be nice with your skirt shop, but any of those colours would look good. Shame about the whistles top. I had sizing at the moment, there seems to be no consistency from shop to shop or even within a shop.

Sorry to hear that things haven’t been great for you recently mara. Hope things are looking up now. Garden plans sounds great. Fairy lights make everything look better!

dry and mara’s comments about quality v quantity reminded me of the discussion on the previous thread about whether fewer ‘designer’ items are as satisfying as multiple high street - is the thrill the item or the purchase? Looks like there is no easy answer to this, I guess finding the right balance between the two is the key!

I ordered the mint velvet lemon pattern cami top but the 12 was too large and it seems to have sold out in the smaller sizes. I also ordered a kimono. For some reason I had ideas of wafting around in a kimono over a vest and shorts / jeans. This isn’t my usual ‘style’ but I thought I’d give it a go. Needless to say that is going back too!! I love the idea of it but it just isn’t me. I ordered the dune Hermes dupes. I don’t usually like things that are a copy of a designer item, but as these are pretty plain I don’t think they look like a copy and they are comfy!

I have the Boden Richmond shorts in navy in a 4inch leg. I have a 12 which is a bit large but think a 10 would be too tight and there are no belt loops.

DryWhiteagainW · 08/05/2018 19:15

Mara no, both Warehouse dresses went back (I’m strong)...... one didn’t fit right the mustard linen ....hang on

DryWhiteagainW · 08/05/2018 19:20

this one I actually liked but wasn’t sure about the length. DD said it was “horrid”, DH told me not to listen to a teenager, but decided I didn’t need it.

Re high st v high end I really think there’s a place for both. In my job I need washable stuff, although I do wear dry clean occcasionally. Money means it’s a bit mix and match and I like to try new looks cheaper first. Also, there is some quality cheaper clothing out there, I just watch the fabrics. I agree with Mara that Gap linen and cottons are excellent quality. Uniqlo merino too.

FedupNagging · 08/05/2018 21:47

I had to go back to the old thread to look at your dress Marsha - it's really lovely and your blue GV's will be perfect.

Mara sorry to hear you've had a tough time recently Flowers

Everyone really like the Dune sandals - which colour did you order? Also loved the lemon tops.

Nice skirt Shop - would you wear a red top with it? I had an almost identical one from Gap but finally binned it at the end of last summer - wore it so much.

Dry good call on returning those items although I can really see you in the Warehouse halter neck.

Someone upthread mentioned flat shoes - I bought these loafers a couple of weeks ago and am very pleased with them - lots of positive comments.

I also purchased this beach dress and costume to match for holiday.

Can't believe I'm saying this but am also tempted by another dress (linen) and shoes from M&S Shock; there's a lot more in store I actually like this season although if it's not displayed along the route to the food hall, I'm unlikely to notice it!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 08/05/2018 21:57

my new housemate is so RUDE. first he told me i HAVE to be up and dressed by 9am EVERY SINGLE DAY because its untidy for me to be in pjs and women shouldn't be untidy and then he told me i'm too 'large' to wear shorts! I just stared at him until he walked away, i have no time for his absolute bullshit, it's hot, i will wear shorts if i want to and as for the pjs, i will wear them whenever i feel like it, its none of his business what i'm wearing or when. I really dislike him right now and he isn't redeeming himself with his other behaviours Angry

anyway, off shopping next weekend for the last bits i need for the holiday, don't need much, have managed to find almost everything i need already in my wardrobe, it's mostly a few loose cotton tops i need to wear with skirts/shorts

Everyonelovessparkles · 09/05/2018 07:33

one I can’t believe your housemate made those comments to you Shock. How rude! You carry on wearing whatever you want!

I got the dune slides in tan fedup. They do seem comfy. I can see you in the red shoes. Holiday dress is nice too. Those type of dresses are great for holidays.

Another lovely day 😎

FedupNagging · 09/05/2018 11:41

What a cf One, take absolutely no notice & carry on.

I have lost a linen t shirt & pair of sunglasses this week; no idea where the t went but I suspect the glasses are somewhere between home & station as they were last seen on the roof of dh's car! So frustrating...

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 09/05/2018 11:57

everyone knows 'large' when in reference to a person is code for fat and so bloody what if i am fat. i'm fat because of my medicine, not that it's actually any of his business and i'm obviously NOT too 'large' for shorts since they come in my size and they fit me so he's just spouting absolute bollocks. I'm trying to be understanding because he isn't english and english isn't his first language so i know there will be some culture clash there but i'm sorry, it's rude in any place to make unwanted comments on someone elses body most especially when you barely know them
