MrsGruber I think I have you to thank for introducing me to SLC during the blind sniff?

Calmwhoknows · 30/03/2018 22:06

Aubergine it’s like a luxurious strawberry chocolate cream, very rich but not too sweet. There’s a bit of citrus and vanilla in there, too. I have a full bottle, so if you would like a sample, pm me.

pestilentialboundary · 30/03/2018 22:11

SLC is horrible however Plum is lovely. We seem to all have different loves and hates. That's fine.

Japanese research shows that young women smell sweeter and like 'Heavy peach oil' .

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 30/03/2018 22:13

Not a fan of SLC but I don’t like chocolate notes, so no surprise. I love the name though! Makes me think of Alexis Colby eating truffles in her four poster bed Grin.

auberginesrus · 30/03/2018 22:25

Based on that Pest maybe I'll love it! Was seriously disappointed I didn't like Plum as I love Lemon and quite like Fire, but it just didn't suit me at all.

MrsGruber · 30/03/2018 22:44

Evil Twins?

Blue - it's from the swap we did a swap at the turn of the year.

OP posts:
MrsGruber · 30/03/2018 22:57

Aubergines - I like the Plum solid parfum much more than the spray EDP. The parfum's warmer and plummier I think.

pestilentialboundary · 30/03/2018 22:59

Aubergines we could be evil twins Grin Do you love MJ Lola?

auberginesrus · 30/03/2018 23:15

I've never tried it Pest - but I feel I've missed out now I've googled it and seen the beautiful bottle Wink.

I have been testing (with my sister) the samples I got from Blooms. They are mostly iris perfumes. Please do join in if you would like to and have the same testers. They are:

Putain des Palaces (ELDO). This is not an iris, but lovely Olga at Blooms put it out for us to try and we decided to buy a sample. I thought it was a pleasant, powdery floral, but with an undertone of skank that I definitely did not like. It could have been Tart’s Knicker Drawer No 2! My sister got leather and rose, but also a bit of rice pudding! Really interesting to try.

Une Amourette (ELDO). Gorgeous! I smelt it initially without looking at the notes and thought it smelt like Madonna Truth or Dare (not the Naked version), which I love, but actually they only share a few notes. I could smell brightness to begin with (that’s the pink pepper) and buttery white florals. There’s only neroli and “indoles” listed. Anyway, I was fairly useless at picking out the notes, even the iris, but I loved how it changed. I could even smell incense at one stage. And the drydown was delightful, not too strong, but long-lasting, 4-5 hours. It has a decidedly dusty note in the drydown.

Besos (Carner). This smelt to me like being in a luxurious shop, not perfume or handbags or anything obvious, but perhaps upholstery or a designer clothes shop (not that I’ve ever been in one!). Lots of iris in the drydown, together with other delightful things I couldn’t pick out. There was almost no projection but I could smell it all day. I topped it up in the evening and it was still there the next morning. I’m really starting to appreciate these “quiet” perfumes more. I would have dismissed this a few months ago. It sang to me - definitely FB worthy. 💕

14 Iris Oriental (Parfumerie Generale). This is a spicy cardamom/incense/iris. It also has honey and fig leaves in it, so I should love it, but I just don’t 😨, although I can appreciate that it’s well made and has some interesting changes in the drydown.

The next ones (we’re doing one a day) are:

Poudre de Ruiz (Huitienne Art)
O, Unknown (Imaginary Authors)
Yesterday Haze (Imaginary Authors)
Shem-El-Nessim (Grossmith)
Naja (Vero Profumo). (This may not have iris in it as it was an extra)

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 30/03/2018 23:44

I realised I have few doubles of some 4160Tuesdays (the old 7ml splash bottles) i guess i must have either doubled up by accident or when i bought quite a few things, i must have been sent them as freebies. No wonder the tub they are in is a lot fuller than i thought it was Blush

mrsreynolds · 31/03/2018 09:02

Ugh
Another night of no sleep
(Yawn)
Sotd obsession...I have errands to run (sob)

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 31/03/2018 09:20

we are off to look for baby stuff as our friends are having a baby next month so want to pick up a few bits for them, it's their first child so extra special for them Smile

mrsreynolds · 31/03/2018 09:24

Oooh baby shopping how lovely 😁

cheered me up on a cold grey day

So...sotd now AT insence rose 😁

MrsGruber · 31/03/2018 09:53

Morning All. Sorry to hear about your night's Mrs R & One.

Have lost my perfume mojo today - can't compute options suitable for Easter and Spring and cold wet rain, and potentially more snow, all at once. Plus am headed to gym in a bit and can't wear anything too mad for classes, so the big hitting 'darn it all' options are out.

So I have tried another of my sister's vintage haul - a 70s/80s Dana called Herbissimo (looks a bit alpine which perhaps does cover those bases?). It's a complete marvel for 5 mins - pure, intense, herby green. The heart is a plesant floral thyme, but not nearly as thrilling as the opening. Might dip into the OML's from the advent calendar for my other arm. Yep, now in Red-Harvest-Gratitude. (I think? A problem with the little OMLs is they don't have their names on the bottles and the colours are very similar... Think I should be smelling grapefruit/rose/hay, so far just getting the citrus).

*pleasant

Just wanted to ask how you feel about high street dupes (Next, Lidl, Primark etc)? I do feel guilty about the intellectual property. But I'm not sure if that's irrational of me as an individual consumer, when big businesses are involved on both sides? And I guess this dates back at least as far as No.5 and L'Aimant?

And, if I suspend the IPR concern, it is satisfying to be able to pick-up things 'in the style of' that you wouldn't necessarily prioritise for a FB bottle, but nonetheless enjoy occasionally...

mrsreynolds · 31/03/2018 10:06

Lordy
IR is quite something!
Takes me right back to singing in choir at the old Catholic church...very strong smoky incense...1 spray really is enough!
😁

mrsreynolds · 31/03/2018 10:21

As you know mrsg I really really rate the next dupes - cashmere is one of my go to scents
I don't have an issue with dupes tbh.
All the brand's do it...avon, Primark, Superdrug...as long as you know you are buying a dupe of course!
It's making perfume affordable for all and that to me is a good thing
PP do some incredible dupes...pp opium is better than the current reformulation and truer to the 1977 original.
The large designer houses don't seem to be struggling anyway 😁

pestilentialboundary · 31/03/2018 10:54

SotD is Damn Rebel Bithches. Apparently I smell like a mix between Dh's muesli and his favourite candle Confused

auberginesrus · 31/03/2018 10:59

Calm your (v interesting) post reminded me that I have a sample of Naja from my trip to Bloom. Think Olga must push it on everyone! I'm going to give it a whirl today - the only thing I can remember from sniffing in the shop is that it has honey in.

I have ordered the SLC from 4160s plus samples of Goodbye Piccadilly and Tokyo Spring Blossom, both of which I've been wanting to try for a while.

LibertyBlue · 31/03/2018 11:16

Waves to Pest and MrsGruber my evil scent twins (although we do also share a lot of loves)

Calm excited by your Iris Bloom sample reviews- I didn’t get any of these from my Bloom visit, they must have a LOT of Iris perfumes (heaven)

MrsGruber I don’t have a problem with dupes because I don’t think many people who buy a dupe do so instead of a full bottle. In economics we call this displacement and I think the value would actually be very low. With luxury goods, people who can afford to buy the real thing will. And for good reason - the quality is usually better.

I have the PP dupe of Baccarat Rouge 540, it’s a pretty spot on copy but you can tell the quality is not as good, therefore I still lust after the real thing. But I will never actually buy a new FB because I won’t ever spend £200 on a FB (well, maybe if I win the lottery). The most likely way I’ll own the real thing is second hand on EBay and this isn’t adding to GVA as it’s already been purchased new.

Dupes can also become overhyped when they don’t deserve the attention (good sales tactic). I got sucked in by the hype over Aldi’s No Malone dupes. The candles are awful- look pretty but tunnel when they burn and throw off no scent whatsoever. The diffusers are marginally better- you can smell them when you sniff the reeds but the smell does not fill the room.

UnnecessaryFennel · 31/03/2018 11:34

Morning all! SOTD is Amouage V - a woody iris which is really, really reminding me of something else but I can't for the life of me work out what. There's a lot of orris root in this that I'm not sure I'm mad keen on.

What is Next Cashmere a dupe of mrsr? I looked for it the other day in my local branch but couldn't find it.

LibertyBlue · 31/03/2018 11:40

Ooh that sounds like it might be my cup of tea Fennel

Any tips on perusing used Perfume on eBay? Haven’t got anything in mind but I’m getting annoyed by all the empty bottles. Any way to filter out all of those?

MrsGruber · 31/03/2018 11:56

Thanks Blue - will enjoy my Black Orchid dupe with a cleaner conscience.

I should add that pirated digital music and film is a different issue. People are getting the original product for free and that’s essentially theft. Which is harming these industries.

Also some copies are unsafe (eg make up on eBay) and illegal so help fund criminality (eg designer handbags sold on the street). But copies sold through reputable shops (eg Perfume by Next, Zara, Bloom No Malone dupes from Superdrug) are fine. PP I know less about but I haven’t had any reactions to their perfumes
