You probably know the drill by now - come and join us and to talk about perfume. We're friendly and smell lovely.

MrsReynolds that's what I did too! I like that they do a 10ml bottle, that works well for me. Enough to enjoy for a few months then move on. I am tempted to order it today! There are just so many lovely perfumes in the world, it can be overwhelming at times I find.

Calmwhoknows · 26/03/2018 13:23

I decided to join Fennel in testing the Friedemodin Vertine. Yes, it has a lovely refreshing minty, basil, grassy opening. It’s not long-lasting but is still there as a skinscent 3-4 hrs later. I’m off to have a spritz of Guerlain’s Herba Fresca to compare!

UnnecessaryFennel · 26/03/2018 13:29

Ha, calm I was just about to post that the Vertine had disappeared! It was lovely while it lasted though.

My perfume-wearing colleague has just given me a 3ml sample of Clean Reserve Blond Rose that he got free with a Space NK order. Blimey, talk about a 'laundry musk' - I smell like I've gone ten rounds with a Bounce dryer sheet.

auberginesrus · 26/03/2018 15:07

Afternoon all, back from work early as I'm about to take dcs (and me) to the dentist for check ups.

SOTD was London 1969 - its edging its way to the top of my must buy list. Got home to find my Les Senteurs samples had arrived, but annoyingly (for the price especially) they are in dabber bottles rather than sprays. Have had a dab of Dryad on the back of my hand - I like it but not for the FB price. Its strongly reminding me of something else and I can't quite think what.

Mrs R I know just what you mean, I am the same with many perfumes, particularly florals which just smell wrong or nauseating on me, including Guerlain classics. I love Oriane (4160s) though which is floral but not over fussy. It would be great if we could get tested so we would now in advance what to avoid and what would suit us!

Ollivander84 · 26/03/2018 15:10

Fennel - I love laundry smells Grin

teta · 26/03/2018 16:04

Mfk is the master of laundry scents.
I just get overwhelmingly toothpaste notes at the beginning of Vertine .A persistent several hours long note. But the dry down is a lovely milky fig that I love. I adore mint in everything else. Menthe fraiche by Heeley is wonderful.
Actually no, I hate it in the Rosine Rose perfume as well and I think it’s the same Nose.

OCSockOrphanage · 26/03/2018 16:06

Floral Street samples arrived this morning, so I started at the end, with Ylang Ylang Espresso. The tobacco hit me hard to start with and, as a reformed smoker, it put me off straight away. It's not quite bad enough to scrub off, but it will be a long time before its second outing. For dog walking and going to the tip, it'll do.

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 26/03/2018 16:51

Fancy I hope you're feeling better Thanks

ISpent the PP Tom Fords that I have tried have been pretty good tbh, and certainly better value! Haven't tried Velvet Orchid but the black orchid version is yummy.

Judy I wonder how many of us "started their perfume journey" with Chanels Grin I know I loved No.5 and still love No. 5 Eau Premiere And Allure but the rest are a bit meh, for me, now. I do need to try some of the Exclusifs though. Paper I'm sorry I haven't tried Coramandel either!

Bagel I'm sorry I'm no use for your query but feel your pain as I loved their Gloria which is discontinued now too I'm sure someone here will be able to recommend something!

Pineapple will be delighted to send you some Lemon, PM your address! I love it, interested to see what you think Smile

The Barbara Cartland comments made me laugh very hard, tick to the pearls, static inducing negligee, lots of flowers in my sick room and a floofy animal on my chest lap! It's like you're all in my house looking at me! Grin

Oh god that actually is me Blush Just imagine wispy pink hair to complete the look! Grin

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 26/03/2018 17:26

Hello lovely-smelling ones.
I will catch up with the thread and all the excitement in a bit Grin. I was feeling moderately better today and went into work, but was sent home by my manager at 3pm for ‘looking green’ Grin.

I wore a spritz of J-Lo Glow today as couldn’t stomach proper perfume, but the soap indeed made me feel a bit queasy, so have applied one nice big spray of Rochas Femme now and I feel much more like ‘me’.
Making chicken soup and hoping the lurgies get lost pronto, as have heavy workload for the next two days, with things it will be a nightmare to rearrange.

Love and perfume to all Flowers

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 26/03/2018 17:26

Soap indeed = soapy vibe

TAUER MINI KLAXON

PHI - Une rose de kandahar is now available in a 5ml mini and ships to the UK

public service announcement ends

UnnecessaryFennel · 26/03/2018 18:05

Ships for free, that should say...

It wasn't working at first so I contacted him on instagram and he replied straight away and sorted it - what a lovely, lovely man Grin

Calmwhoknows · 26/03/2018 18:45

So, this afternoon I had a comparison of Friedemodin Vertine and Guerlain Herba Fresca. Vertine is greener, but Herba Fresca is herbier, with an even more pronounced minty note. Teta, you probably wouldn’t like the mint! Both are lovely for the summer, but Herba Fresca lasts much longer (still going strong after 5 hours) so I think that’s my preference). I will enjoy finishing off the Vertine, though.

Fennel, I have tried to order the Tauer, but the ordering system won’t accept my address 😥. I will try again later. Perhaps the glitch hasn’t been sorted out yet.

UnnecessaryFennel · 26/03/2018 19:05

It worked for me calm, once I took everything else out of my basket Blush

MrsGruber · 26/03/2018 19:40

MrsR - think body heat, dryness of skin, and how your brain/nose interpret smell are the key variables? I guess the latter is enormous - potentially includes all your personal history, olfactory experiences and wider cultural/social context?

Judydreamsofhorses · 26/03/2018 19:41

SOTD is L’Air de Rien. Crappy Monday here, bleurgh. I always feel so off kilter after the clocks change.

I want that Tauer but am broke until payday. Am annoyingly waiting on a huge refund - almost £200 - from &otherstories which is taking forever.

MrsGruber · 26/03/2018 19:45

Bagel - I put Liberte in Michael Edwards' Fragrance Finder (just been revamped - new version live in beta mode). This suggests: Si, Flora by Gucci, Narciso Rodriguez for Her, Gucci Rush.

Calmwhoknows · 26/03/2018 19:48

Thank you Fennel! Yes, it worked once I checked the basket and emptied it apart from the Rose. I think I had tested it a few weeks ago by trying to order a discovery set, which of course you’re still not allowed to do from the UK. The discovery set was still sitting in there!

mrsreynolds · 26/03/2018 19:49

Tauer Incense rose sounds amazing

auberginesrus · 26/03/2018 20:03

That fragrance wheel is great fun, but is just going to bring up more stuff I want to buy. But I would never have guessed that Beyonce Shimmering Heat would be a suggested match for Miss Dior Originale. Its always cheap as chips in my local TK Maxx Grin

Judy I know what you mean about that first Monday after the clocks change - I usually struggle for about 2 weeks. Compounded today by sleeping badly last night because I knew I needed to get up even extra early Sad Hope your body clock adjusts soon. And hope you feel better soon Fancy

UnnecessaryFennel · 26/03/2018 20:12

Obviously my buying ban is still in effect, but one has to make an honourable exception for Tauer miniatures... Hmm

positivepineapple · 26/03/2018 20:27

Thanks Floofy Smile will inbox you my address now.

As I'm on a post office run tomorrow would anyone like the sample size of (one spray gone from each)

Rome 1963
Goodbye Piccadilly

I can appreciate them, especially the chocolatey richness in Rome 1963 but they're not for me. Would rather pass them on to someone who will appreciate them.

MrsGruber · 26/03/2018 20:37

Floof you are officially thread Queen. Glitterball Glitterball

Calm and Teta - do you like Nuit Etoilee too?

Fancy - hope you're feeling better? I'm eating chicken soup and the J25 drydown smells a lot like Femme (and Civet).

PP - take the plunge and get the beautiful MG Lemon handbag spray before they go! Around a fiver with code and they look potentially refillable? Grin

UF - thanks for top Tauer tip. Smile.

MrsR - I am obviously doing my 'perfume journey' wrong. I am becoming progressively less discriminating the more I sniff. I seem to have worked through my casual prejudices, and now seem to find something to like about most things I try ? Or perhaps it's just that I'm choosing them better? Grin

OC - am sure there is something here about perfumes for dog walking and going to the tip that could serve as a future thread title? And at this pace we'll need to think about this quite soon. Smile

The perfume wheel is interesting, it gives the same suggestions for TF Neroli Portifino as it does for MG Lemon: Musc & Neroli by Parfums Berdoues , Cologne Agrumes à l'eau byCompagnie de Provence , and Dirty Ginger by Heretic which all sound very different.
