You probably know the drill by now - come and join us and to talk about perfume. We're friendly and smell lovely.

So this is the original, pre- reformulation, but it is my Grandad filling his pipe with fragrant, moist tobacco, wearing a tweed jacket with leather elbow patches, well groomed as ever in a hint of lime cologne.

I'm between perfumes, Liz Earle No:15 is too wintery and Body Shop Fig is too summery / early autumn.
Any recommendations for a spring perfume? Cheaper or the same as LE.
I've skimmed through this thread, apologies if I've missed anything obvious.

mrsreynolds · 24/03/2018 08:26

What notes do you like?

OldJoseph · 24/03/2018 08:40

Hmmm, not sure really, I'll have to think about that. The only think I do know is that I don't like any scent or home fragrance that implies water or the sea.
Flowers and fruits are great but not too sweet.

OldJoseph · 24/03/2018 08:41

I stumbled on the LE and BS perfumes by chance.

Welcome OldJoseph! I think you need to test a few perfumes, perhaps by buying some sample packs. Assuming you don’t like very sweet or floral perfumes, some suggested perfumes are:

Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay (but Perfume Parlour do an excellent dupe which is longer lasting than the original)
Sarah Jessica Parker Covet (a floral woody musk with chocolate undertones, not too sweet). Sold by Savers and also Superdrug, I believe. All her perfumes are good quality.
Lolita Lempicka (a floral fruity Gourmand with liquorice). It’s sweet but not overbearing.
Hermes Jardin series. On the pricey side but one of these might suit you. Also try their 24 Faubourg.
4160Tuesdays - Tokyo Spring Blossom, Ealing Green. (If you email them for help they will probably be able to suggest others to put together a sample set for you.)

OldJoseph · 24/03/2018 09:20

Thanks for your response. Looking forward to trying some of your suggestions. Great that they aren't all pricey.

MrsGruber · 24/03/2018 09:26

Hello Old Joseph - how about Clarins Eau des Jardins or Yardley Jade? I'd also recommend going to M&S with a beauty hall and trying all the Fragonards and Monothemes. Some great citruses for spring.

cheap...the mitsouko arrived this morning.
THANK YOU ❤
I'm wafting around in it as we speak 😁
Lovely

I would also suggest m and s fragrance hall. Some really lovely scents and they won't break the bank 👍

UnnecessaryFennel · 24/03/2018 10:09

Eau des Jardins used to be a big favourite of mine. I have a lot of time for those Clarins colognes - they do exactly what they say they are going to do, they're well-priced and unpretentious. Shame they don't really last but hey ho, they're not supposed to I guess! I have big bottles of Eau Dynamisante and Eau Ressourcante in the back of a cupboard somewhere...must remember to bring them out when the weather gets warmer (if the weather ever gets warmer...)

SOTD is Dirty Honey. I am really warming to this one. It's quite clever and well-named, I think. I like my sweet scents to have an 'edge' to them, and this definitely has an earthy, grubby note that stops it drifting into boring sugaryness. I can really get a 'beeswax' note as well.

MrsG - that bottle of CVC is verrrry tempting...

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 24/03/2018 10:36

I still haven't tried Dirty Honey, I keep meaning to and then keep forgetting to order a sample of it Blush

went to bed wearing a squirt of Obsession which i enjoyed very much, could still faintly smell it this morning when i woke up. No plans to get out of pjs today so need to look for something that smells fluffy and warm i think

Ollivander84 · 24/03/2018 10:36

SOTD for work, Mrs Gloss lemon sherbet

auberginesrus · 24/03/2018 10:44

Morning all, it's mild and almost bright here, and I'm feeling better so I'm in my new yellow cardigan and Mary Greenwell Lemon Grin

teta · 24/03/2018 10:55

Iris Prima today as I’m taking on the Iris theme. Maybe Heure Exquise, which is predominantly lady-like Iris tomorrow.
Loved the idea of cake in a jar. It made me really hungry just looking at it Olivander.
Have a good weekend everyone.

mrsreynolds · 24/03/2018 11:32

I wish I had a perfume shelf!! [Envy]

Is that ghost deep night I spy at the back there? It's lovely.

Lots of 4610 tins as well I see 😁

I have 2 small boxes for my perfumes. I don't keep samples as if I really like them I buy fbs 😁

Just had a bath so I think next cashmere for me now..
So soft and cuddly ❤

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 24/03/2018 11:34

Yes, it is Ghost Deep Night, i do so enjoy it, i also enjoy the original Ghost fragrance,t he one in the tall pale blue bottle and yes, for sure plenty of 4160Tuesdays!! that plastic tub is full mostly of their splash bottles and a few PP roller bottles

mrsreynolds · 24/03/2018 11:43

I think I spy Marc Jacobs lola and JS fancy nights too?

I like this game!! 😁 sadly my eyesight is awful and they are the only ones I can make out...is that eternity at the front?...

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 24/03/2018 11:47

Right again on both counts! |The Lola was a gift and although wouldn't have been my choice, it is rather pretty so nice for spring when it's not too hot or too cold and yes that is a summer flanker of eternity at the front Smile

pestilentialboundary · 24/03/2018 11:58

SotD is Brook's Black Fleece. Like Eau de Cologne meets oud. Perfect for spring.

Pineapple did you get Blue Cat, dawn or red Cat, dusk? Almost tempted to get the other and compare notes.

MrsGruber · 24/03/2018 12:10

SsotD are MG Plum (solid parfum) and Map of the Heart Gold. Like the solid parfum more than the EDP - its a bit warmer and plummier and the packaging is tremendous. Stockpile these, including as the most sophisticated stocking fillers ever.

Think MotH Gold may be my favourite from The Big Sniff. Price and repellant bottle mean I'm unlikely to buy more than a decant in the future though.
