You probably know the drill by now - come and join us and to talk about perfume. We're friendly and smell lovely.

4160 Tuesdays scent of the week is "Evil Max" - described as a black forest gateau black cherry yoghurt chypre, and designed to smell like a man's fragrance from the 1980s. I think I'll give it a miss, but would like a sniff!

My TK Maxx had Miller Harris Fleur du Matin and Fleurs du Sel (both discontinued I think) and Vivienne Westwood Boudoir which was tempting, but I was v good and didn't buy any - I did get some reading glasses though #middleaged

mrsreynolds · 23/03/2018 20:02

Evil max sounds just that to me - evil 🤢

Sote is sexiest scent

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 23/03/2018 20:11

Yogurt. Chypre.

Shock

'Fraid not MrsG between working two jobs, have been contemplating that it is great that nerve agent scientists don't wear dry cleanable clothes. All hail polyester suits and their part in the prevention of chlorine based clouds. I would be dreadful as a blogger, rather like the big sniff, just a bit too truthful. If we want free samples then, simper, simper, super, lovely...never gonna work.

SotD is SJP Covet, I'm happy.

Slight desperation here. Does anyone recognise this building?

I have a whole big bottle of GIRL if anyone still need a sample. PM me.

Mary Greenwell Lemon is v. nice. Especially in the travel sprays, which rank as fab packaging. I rather like Plum also.

auberginesrus I have managed not to buy Boudoir twice now Grin feeling proud.

mrsreynolds · 23/03/2018 20:25

Looks like the colliseum to me

OCSockOrphanage · 23/03/2018 20:28

My birthday wishes earlier to ollivander were clearly lost, so again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

SOTD was MH Terre d'Iris, which had faded out by lunchtime, but nice while it lasted --and I swiped it from the shared mini citron coffret that is lurking on DS's bathroom shelf. And I learned how to do the grave accented e too. Just not on the laptop!

pestilentialboundary · 23/03/2018 20:28

Colosseum has arches that are vertically in line Sad Its got us MrsR and we are a dreadful bunch of nerds.

auberginesrus · 23/03/2018 20:32

Looks sort of Moroccan or Moorish - could it be the Alhambra Palace?

auberginesrus · 23/03/2018 20:34

SOTE Next Cashmere - lovely Smile

UnnecessaryFennel · 23/03/2018 20:57

That's the Doge's Palace in Venice isn't it?

UnnecessaryFennel · 23/03/2018 20:59

Hmm, on second thoughts perhaps not; the lower floor (?loggia) has more columns

pestilentialboundary · 23/03/2018 21:08

Ignore the building, it will drive you mad.

Spring perfumes:- What's new, what needs reviving, what are we sniffing Sunday.
DH will be happy when I wear Eclat d’Arpège and smell of lilac. I shall skip about Ealing Green, No19 and Eiderantler. Apart from the 4160 crowd fund, what else is exciting and green?

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 23/03/2018 21:11

oooh pest i've got some Eclat d'Arpege that i'd forgotten about, will have to get that out as the weather hopefully improves. HSall also be wearing the Yardley Jade I bought yesterday as It was very green and fresh and probably the Yardley English Daisy i got as well. MY ultimate for when it's very hot is the lone bottle of SignorRicci I stumbled on, it is the single most refreshing thing I own to spray on when it's really hot. I know strictly speaking it's a mens scent but i do not care, nothing else beats it for freshening me right up when i'm over hot and over tired

UnnecessaryFennel · 23/03/2018 21:11

Too late, pest, that's my Friday night gone Grin

We are sniffing Vince Camuto on Sunday (not literally). Sadly my bottle has leaked so I am already very, very familiar with it...

OCSockOrphanage · 23/03/2018 21:15

My DSis used Rive Gauche for yonks and I always adored the bright blue, black and chrome striped enamel handbag spray she had. It was just such a pretty accessory. It also smelled great, on her!

OCSockOrphanage · 23/03/2018 21:19

PP Verty Boham is a good dupe of the TF Vert Boheme. I also like, in green perfumes, CdG Serpentine (FB) and MMM Untitled.

Dowser · 23/03/2018 21:26

Am back home... two days now. Case was overweight with three bottles of perfume luckily dh was under
Even so they made 4 people get off with their luggage as plane was too heavy too fly

Bit worrying that it couldn’t cope with an extra 60 stone! People must have gone mad in duty free... maybe a couple of people carted a few tellys aboard!

I don’t know. Made us an hour late as we missed our slot.

I found some more perfumes in my drawer ... a jil sander one called sun for example which is nice and light and summery
We’ve never stopped. Down at the Caravan now for plumber to reconnect the heating, water etc

We have heat and flushing loo but no hot water.
Going home tomorrow. Wanted to stay longer but have roughed it long enough.
Need something soothing and sedative ...lavender lol

mrsreynolds · 23/03/2018 21:40

Rive gauche is lush.
Everything about it says understated elegance - flacon included!
I love valentino poudree and EL diamonds and rubies for spring/summer.

pestilentialboundary · 23/03/2018 21:42

Trying to imagine 60 stone of perfume Dowser. Also wondering if you are staying in MiL's caravan. Hope you get to relax soon.

Calmwhoknows · 23/03/2018 21:45

Blue, yes I’m really into iris scents at the moment. My lovely smelling session in Bloom was centred around iris scents so I have quite a few samples. (We probably ended up with some of the same ones!). Also I have a bargainous bottle of L’Artisan Parfumeur’s Skin on Skin. It is a large (120ml) pristine bottle inside a very grubby box. It is a suede leather and iris and smells like the inside of a luxurious scented buttery suede-lined leather handbag. I have worn it and enjoyed it for the last couple of days. I have a sample of Chanel’s Cuir Cannage and put that on one wrist this evening, just to compare. That smells like the outside of the same handbag! Not so soft and more leathery. It also has iris (orris root) in it. Very enjoyable, but I think I prefer the Skin on Skin.

Ollivander, happy birthday 🎂!

Fennel, you’re so right about the testing, especially with 4160 perfumes. Many of theirs warrant time to get to know them as they morph.

pestilentialboundary · 23/03/2018 21:55

Also into the iris with Aedes' Iris Nazarena along with Girl.

Feeling rather jealous of Olivander's cake in a jar, Happy Birthday.

Calmwhoknows · 23/03/2018 21:56

Pest, I think Fennel is right, that could be the Doge’s Palace. The sides of it vary, but the little circles along the top of each storey are just like the Palace.

MrsGruber · 23/03/2018 23:51

Have had a look at a few medieval double decker bridges (Rothenberg and Pont du Gard) but The Doge's Palace looks just as plausible.

Evil Max: just spayed. Cherry pipe tobacco (rather than fruity cherry) is the star of this leathery, mossy chypre. Absolutely nothing milky about it. Gorgeous in a Grandfatherly way.
