Welcome @LapsedHumanist!!!

@BigStripeyBastard I think I may need to do a "stragglers from other lists" list as have 3 still active at the mo! 😬

Welcome @Confusssed!!!

I went to a Expectant Parent event at Mothercare yesterday... very disappointing... so cheered myself up in Superdrug- Suffagette colours Loreal eye pallete, new Rimmel mascara (swayed by purple packaging) and a set of lipsticks from Makeup Revolution. Oopsie!

I have 3 empties:

  • Ecran inshower aftersun: love the smell but was very liquid so there was a lot of waste
  • Body Shop skin defence: love this SPF product - will replace
  • Superdrug Extracts Coconut and Sweet Almond hair conditioner: pants. Am going to really try and move away from conventional conditioners (to get away from silicones and plastic) but have another cheapie to get through first.

experiment JoJo have a sale...if you’re not afraid of buying baby clothes too early....

Experiment627 · 25/06/2018 15:10

Haha! @ememem84 I have been too scared - but bought my first thing last weekend and have my eye on a lot more stuff!
Thanks for letting me know about the sale.
I am very lucky that my SIL works in a charity shop - I learned yesterday she has been putting things aside for months!!!

I have another empty!!!

  • Pixi liplift max Honey Sheen: first of two of these... really do not like. Seems to make my lips drier... think I should give the other one away

Clarinet night cream finished full sized. Yay. This was a staple for me. However. I bought a Clinique one to give it a try. Bigger jar, slightly cheaper £32 instead of £38 I think. But the plastic jar is non recyclable. Clarins is in a glass jar....

Haven’t tried Clinique yet so it may be a winner.

ememem84 · 26/06/2018 21:55

So far I’m enjoying Clinique night cream. It’s not as “wet” as clarins. And doesn’t leave my skin feeling slippery.

I needed more make up remover too today so bought the take the day off stuff. Never used it but have heard good things.

DragonNoodleCake · 26/06/2018 22:22

Oh dear I let DD1(18) loose on my very slightly pink hair to even it up! Holy crap I have very very rose gold hair now!!!!
Can I brass it out at work tomorrow??? Only 3 days until holiday

Experiment627 · 27/06/2018 06:26

@DragonNoodleCake there is no photo? How can we provide advice without one? That said I reckon you can pull it off!!!

My feet have been SO stinky that I have succumbed and bought some foot deodorant - hope it works!

I also was on a webinar on Monday and I am not sure what happened but I went on to Body Shop site and accumulated a big haul.... I am not proud of what I have done but most was on sale.

I was so tired last night I did not even remove my makeup 😱

Hello @Experiment627!

Three empties:

Green Energy Organics Le Fluide Ecologique Moisturising spf 50. I will cry if they ever discontinue this. It’s serum, moisturiser and spf in one. So hydrating. No stinging, no stickiness, no white cast. Have ordered another one already it’s, changed to spf 30 this year I notice).

Lue by Jean Seo Hydrating and Calming Serum. It’s very good for the price. The same company do a similar but better one- at 4 times the price. I tried this to see if I could make a bargain switch. Bit torn on cost vs results. The other one is better for the fine lines round the eyes and lasts a lot longer too. So I’ll probably stick to the other one. If I was five years younger though...

Neal’s Yard Frankincense and Mandarin Body Polish. Too scratchy, so that’s a no! Smelt nice, but too rough.

@DragonNoodleCake Rose Gold hair sounds lovely.

Have three travel size dry shampoos from IGK to try- sort of light, medium and heavy variants.

WHEN I Go for my new hair (probably October...) I want this chocolatey mauve type thing.

LapsedHumanist · 27/06/2018 11:16

Ooh, that’s lovely too @ememem84

applesandpears33 · 27/06/2018 11:20

Finally got some empties - protect and perfect day moisturiser and clinique eye cream. I think I'll have a few more empties in a couple of days as the hot weather means I'm using up samples of sun cream etc.

Treeballarae · 27/06/2018 12:44

Some empties to report. Eucerin ultra sensitive moisturiser - I liked it, I would buy again for Autumn.

L'Occitane cherry blossom shower gel 35ml, been using up for washing hands
Bumble and Bumble surf shampoo sachet - was disappointed that it contained SLS as my scalp doesn't like them,
Biore UV Watery Essence SPF 50 - a bit drying so going back to my holy grail LRP Anthelios ultra light.

I can't see your photo @DragonNoodleCake but I reckon you can pull it off too going on past photos you've posted!

@ememem84, that colour is lovely too

ememem84 · 27/06/2018 20:02

Thanks Re the hair colour. I’d love to go full Ribena purple but I think work may have a word. Although they may not. But I’m not willing to take that much of a risk. Haha! Something subtle like the pic would be get awayable.

Empty - soap and glory righteous butter cleansing foamy wash stuff. Smells amazing. Super soft. But I used it a week. So it shows that bar soap is the way forwards.

Skin feels nice today after using the Clinique moisturiser last night. Hoorah!

Inthetropics · 27/06/2018 22:37

Hello!

I'm wondering if it would be OK for me to join you all... I have a huuuge stash of toiletries and really need to pair down. I'm brazilian so you won't know many of my products. Is it ok?

I also would like to know if you have goals or what do you aim to achieve. Do you want to get to the point where you have only one product of each type or just spend less money on make up? I'm adking because i have no idea of what I want to achieve... i guess it would be nice to have a few products to chose from (not a single of each) and maybe defining a maximum number of itens.... i'm not sure how i'll be approaching this.

Also.. is it ok to post a picture of my very embarassing stash?

DragonNoodleCake · 28/06/2018 00:00

Thanks guys! I do like it now.
@ememem84 I work with mostly men, they barely noticed the change!
@Inthetropics hi - yes post your stash it will make me feel better and not at all guilty for the buying and not using up!!

ememem84 · 28/06/2018 06:48

@inthetropics hi!!!! Yes join us! The only issue we have is we may seek out the unknown products!! Haha!!

My goal is to save money by a) using up what I have and b) trying to find out what works for me so I don’t spend unnecessarily on “miracle” products!

PurpleNailVarnish · 28/06/2018 07:37

That's exactly why I'm here @ememem84, this has given me a determination to use up everything I've got.

This may seem daft but I want to find my 'bests' of everything, I mean the things that work for me. Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream is my go-to, I don't think I'd use anything else now and I use it on my feet, elbows and anywhere else too really.

I'm aiming to find the best products for everything, I think I've found my best hair conditioner and I'm working on the rest.

My weakness is sample offers, I'm a total sucker for them.

@Inthetropics I agree with ememem, I'd be interested to know which products you use and how good they are.

ememem84 · 28/06/2018 08:03

I’m a sucker for anything shiny. Essentially I’m 18% magpie. Anything that promises the world... and then it does nothing for me so I fall back on the things I know work.

We’re also (still) trying to move house so I’m also using this as a declutter exercise.

I’m using the motto “just bloody wear it” with my clothes and not saving anything for “best” and am taking more care with what I wear so am going to be doing “just bloody use it” with my make up and products.

To many things saved for special occasions.

Treeballarae · 28/06/2018 15:12

@DragonNoodleCake - I can see your photo today, it's lovely!

I saw two girls when I was out for a lunchtime walk yesterday, one had blue hair and one had a dark purpley pink and I had hair colour envy, but I could never carry either off irl.

Welcome @Inthetropics! I'd love to see your stash photo too and am also interested in the different products you use and like.

At the moment I am trying to save money by not buying a new product if I have something in my stash that could do the job, with the caveat that I can spend £10-£20 a month on frivolous stuff I don't need. My weakness is samples and miniature sizes.

I started off thinking I wanted to find my holy grail product in each category and then just buy that, but that has evolved over time as I've realised I like to have a few products in each category to choose from as I get bored easily and my skin changes from week to week.

I also like to have a list each month of 10-12 products that I'm targeting to finish off to keep me focused.

If you don't know what you want to achieve, just make a start using up some products in your stash and over time I think that what works for you and keeps you motivated will naturally work itself out.

Inthetropics · 28/06/2018 22:45

Oh! I feel so welcome!

I just got home from work and will be posting pictures of my stash later (must eat, feed cats, clear a small part of the chaos, etc..). One of my patients gifted me some lovely products this afternoon so they will be joining my current stockpile.

I'll probably decide on a maximum number of each product i'll allow myself to have and try to not buy anything until i reach my goal. It might take a long time, more than a year for some products. I usually am very conscious when it comes to avoiding excessive consumerism but i guess when it comes to toiletries and books i have really poor control over myself. I'll never stop buying books so toiletries must be mastered!

Inthetropics · 29/06/2018 03:01

Ok, this is a pic of my stuff. It's not all there because i'd have to go through my entire home to find a few more products that are scattered and i'm really tired so won't be doing that. As you can see there's hardly any makeup; i rarely use makeup and what i have i was given as a gift. Most of it is stuff i use daily and not really high end, although there are a few special products that i like best (love my vegan soaps). My stash is mostly toiletries: hair products, body lotion, soaps, a shitload of deodorant and toothpaste; baby wipes that i use for a lot of purposes (i have no kids); hair masks, facial masks, etc.

I'll be making a list of everything and posting here in order to motivate myself. I'll also go wirh the sugestion of choosing 10 to 15 itens to use up first. I'm a little upset right now looking at all this because it feels like such a waste of money...!

I forget to say on my other posts that i've been taking pictures of all the products i use up since last september in order to get an idea what how much of each product i go through in a year. I plan on keep on buying deodorant, toothpaste and baby wipes to last me throught a year as i get a really good discount when i buy them in bulk and don't really care what brand they are. I'll have the numbers in september.
