I've just caught up. Feel like I've never been away now! Welcome to the newbies!
I also forgot that I finished a Full Size m&s body butter in spiced apple (not entirely seasonal, admittedly).

ememem84 · 12/06/2018 21:01

Ive been awol a bit too.

Last Wednesday (day before my last post) I took myself off to the dr. Who diagnosed me with high functioning post natal depression and anxiety. Sigh.

But I’m glad I’ve got help. I was struggling so so much with going back to work and having to leave ds (with anyone - Nursery which we all love, my parents, dh...anyone who wasn’t me basically) plus struggling with the guilt of wanting to go back to work and not wanting to be a sahm. Phew. It’s exhausting.

So. Back on to dealing with it. Slowly. Carefully.

And back to taking care of myself.

This morning I moisturised whole body for the first time in about three weeks. And I’ve just washed my hair for the first time in a week.

On the plus side I’ve finished my dry shampoo (Lee Stafford one. Smells amazing! More expensive than batiste but occasionally will buy!)

Also finished a Mitchum powder fresh deodorant. Bought this as was on special offer. Like it. Will rebuy.

FrowningFlamingo · 12/06/2018 21:09

Sorry to hear that, emem. Glad you're getting some help though - and well done on the washing and moisturising! Lack of self care is a bit of a vicious circle isn't it - feel dreadful so don't do it then feel more dreadful. You have my sympathies xx

PurpleNailVarnish · 13/06/2018 20:37

I'm sorry @ememem84 but I'm glad you're getting help now, I hope you feel better soon.

Congratulations @CantChoose.

How are you feeling @Experiment627?

I'm having a lousy time but that's a thread for another day. I'm definitely not pregnant and hallelujah for that Smile

When it comes to serums does anyone else find they sort of peel off when you put moisturiser on top of them? Even if you let them dry first? It doesn't seem to make a difference which moisturiser/serum combination I'm using.

What with DD's stash and mine I don't think I'll need to buy shampoo or facial moisturiser until Christmas at the earliest.

I've got a long list of empties but I've been cheating because DDs left lots of half finished bottles behind:

  • 5 Lush paper shower wash things.
These are from the girls' bathroom, I'm still trying to 'tidy' their bathroom as well ours by using up the things they've left behind. I wasn't impressed by these disintegrating paper shower wash things but I'm not a fan of Lush products generally. I don't think I'm their target market.
  • Darphin Micellar Cleanser sample.
This was good but one micellar water seems to be the same as any other, spending lots of money doesn't seem to make any difference or is that just me? Even though it was decent enough I won't be spending money on a full size version of this.
  • Charles Worthington leave in conditioner.
This is good stuff, I've already started on the next bottle of it but it does take ages for my hair to dry when I use it.
  • Hollister Crescent Bay spray perfume.
This is another one from the girls, there wasn't much left in the bottle so I used it up. It's a nice, light smell for this time of year.
  • This Works Deep Sleep Breathe In 5ml sample.
I liked the smell, I'm not sure it helps to get me to sleep. I've got another of these samples that I'm using now.
  • Grow Gorgeous Hair Growth Serum.
Smelt nice and lasted for ages but it was sticky and didn't help with my hair growth.
  • L'Oreal Long Hair Treatment.
This is good, I've bought some more and I'll use it again.
  • Skin Owl Beauty Drops Maqui Berry.
This oil reduces the angry appearance of my rosacea when I use it overnight. When I've used up some of my other night creams and oils I will purchase it again.
  • Kallos Keratin hair treatment.
I've been waging a war of attrition with this 1000ml tub for ages. It made my hair soft but the effect didn't last beyond one hair wash.
  • Nivea Skin Soft moisturiser.
The third and final tub I'd bought as a package, I'd stopped using it as a facial moisturiser as my rosacea didn't like it so I used it as a body moisturiser instead.
  • Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream.
This is my go-to hand cream, I'm already well into my next tube of it.
  • Nioxin 3 Scalp Treatment.
The last bit in the bottle had been hanging around for ages, I used it up when I'd finished the Grow Gorgeous stuff. It didn't work.
  • Sanctuary Silky Smooth Body Lotion.
Another one from the girls' bathroom. It was ok but I wouldn't buy it for myself, I think one of them received it as part of a Christmas gift set.
  • Radox Relaxing Bubble Bath.
From the DDs, it makes me sleepy, it's good value for money and I like it.
  • Soap and Glory Hand Food.
Liberated from the DDs, I used it as a body moisturiser, it smells nice and left my skin soft.
  • Rodial Stem Cell Magic Gel sample.
I love this and will definitely buy full size when I've used up my other moisturisers.
wizzywig · 13/06/2018 20:40

Anyome tried the crayola makeup on asos? Ive splashed out on some fenty makeup today

HuckfromScandal · 14/06/2018 09:13

I have an empty! Whoop
Just a body shop body butter, but hey, baby steps. Have replaced it with a travel size body butter, of which I have many......

Experiment627 · 14/06/2018 16:44

Wahoo @CantChoose!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! What kind of tips do you want? 😬

@ememem84 sorry to hear about your PND - but I am so pleased you have been diagnosed and are making progress 😘😘😘

@wizzywig I have not but saw a first impression video yesterday on it... can I resist Crayola?

So I am currently on holiday in Sicily - I managed to step into a Sephora and leave without buying anything and I may have walked into a L'erbolario and bought most of the store

Thanks experiment it’s been tough but hopefully things are getting better now. I’m feeling better now knowing why I’ve been feeling so rubbish!

TeaAddict235 · 14/06/2018 21:20

@wizzywig how is the Fenty makeup? I'm intrigued. I dumbly listen to a podcast with two ladies, one of which is Lindsey Kelk, and they are forever putting down Fenty makeup, but then lavish praises on every other crap in a tin. They just can't bring themselves to say that a young black woman did well and the more I listen to them the more certain that I am that they are vacuous plastic bags. Anyway I digress, I've read that the Fenty stuff is meant to be far better than it looks and be good value for money, is it? I'm due a trip to the US soon Grin

joangray38 · 14/06/2018 21:25

I've got the fuzzy wuzzy lip and cheek crayon and the mermaid face crayons. I really like them. I've seen lots of bad reviews on big YouTube beauty channels but they like glam in your face looks. I find the colours to be more natural, similar to the nyx crayons

IPokeBadgers · 14/06/2018 22:32

Congrats on the pregnancy CantChoose - wishing you a very healthy pregnancy, hope everything goes well for you xx

No more empties on the horizon but going on holiday for fortnight on Sunday so will see what minis I can take with and use up 😊

wizzywig · 14/06/2018 23:55

teaaddict. Gutted. The trophy wife highlighter is just like any old highlighter. I bought a duo highlighter based on what they looked like online (in those pics where they show product on arms) and the duo highlighter just disappears on my skin colour. Cant return it now. This is what happens when you get carried away watching youtube

Experiment627 · 15/06/2018 20:37

I have an empty!!! But am actually disappointed that I did not get through more stuff this holiday.

  • Clinique dramatically different lotion 5 fl oz: nope not a fan - only got this cos friend broke out upon use

ememem84 · 16/06/2018 07:51

Boring “empty” from me. Used up another bar soap.

CantChoose · 16/06/2018 09:13

I'm not sure yet experiment but I'll let go know when I decide Grin
Thanks for the well-wishes, all going ok so far, keeping fingers tightly crossed!

I've finished a Neals Yard Frankinsence moisturiser, I think this had gone off as it didn't quite smell right so I just used it as a hand cream.
I have so much handcream I've actually allocated a whole drawer in my new dressing table to it Blush it's a small drawer...

ememem84 · 17/06/2018 10:58

Hair balm used up. Yay. Am almost through the raspberry body butter from body shop.

And have 6 moisturisers left. I thought I had more than that....!

Experiment627 · 17/06/2018 11:16

I am thinking if buying one of those Alex drawer tall boys from IKEA for my beauty stash for things for the baby.

I have an empty... ok do it is only a sachet but what the heck, I have it taking up space for about 6 months (it was in a box):

  • Skin Republic bubble purifying & charcoal face mask sheet

get two and a storage locker somewhere babies have so much stuff

Treeballarae · 17/06/2018 16:15

Congratulations to all the posters who are pregnant and wishing lots of luck and baby dust to those who are ttc.

ememem84 sending Flowers your way, sorry to hear about the PND. When my depression is in full-flow, it is a good day if I manage to do my skincare routine, so celebrate the small self-care victories that you've achieved like moisturising your whole body and washing your hair.

Purple, you asked about serums, I get the peeling off thing if I use a silicone containing serum and/or moisturiser and I also get it even if using a non-silicone serum and moisturiser if I put too much of either product on. At the moment, I put a pea sized blob on my 3 fingertips and pat into my skin rather than rubbing and this seems to stop it happening.

Treeballarae · 17/06/2018 16:28

Not much progress on my 21 for Summer list as I'm falling into bed each night rather than doing my night routine, so I need to get back into that. I've finished the Face theory night cream (used up on my feet, left them really soft!) and the Urtekram tea tree shampoo - basic and functional.

Off list I've finished:
Mandara Spa Island Paradise body lotion, it was a nice powdery citrus scent but I think it has since been discontinued.

Omorovicza deep cleansing mask mini - it left my skin red

DHC deep cleansing oil mini - really stung my eyes so I don't see the point of it if I can't use it on my whole face, it came in a duo so I have another bottle to use up before I can buy something nicer

L'Occitane almond shower and shea shower oil minis - out of the two I prefer the shea version and will buy a big size.

Mini Aurelia deodorant - I've tried a few deodorants that you apply with fingers and this spreads the easiest out of the ones I've tried even when it's cold in my bathroom, but not so keen on the minty smell though. My search for the perfect deodorant is still on.

ememem84 · 17/06/2018 19:05

Tree thank you. I’ve found it tough but yes am absolutely celebrating the small wins. We’ve had so much going on (back to work, ds’ christening, work being super manic and being back full time, mil visiting, trying to move house....) so it’s proper taken it out of me. 😭

But I’m doing on. The meds have taken the edge off it a bit. And I’m trying to do as much self care as possible. Managed gym twice last week and some moisturising and proper make up. Yay.

Skinfulnappies46 · 17/06/2018 19:40

I have gathered up loads of eyeshadow palettes ... most,y Urban Decay and want to do a clear out - -to buy some more as my drawers are full- -
Does anyone buy them on EBay if they have been used?

PurpleNailVarnish · 17/06/2018 20:04

Thank you for the serum tip @Treeballarae. I'm sorry the Omorovicza mask made your face red. Conversely, I have rosacea and when I next posted about empties I was going to say how brilliant I'm finding the Omorovicza samples I've got have been at calming my own redness. It's a shame we can't do swaps!

@ememem84 I'm pleased you're feeling better, it's brilliant that you've been managing self care, it's something I need to do myself. Are you on the self care thread? I keep meaning to join them, hoping it will give me the impetus to start.

I wouldn't buy used cosmetics @Skinfulnappies46 because of the potential for infection.

Treeballarae · 17/06/2018 21:10

@PurpleNailVarnish - I've tried the Omorovicza mask before, I had a full sized pot and it was lovely, left my skin smooth and even, but my skin has got more sensitive as I've got older so I think it's just too much for it now. Which samples of theirs have you been trying? I love their illuminating moisturiser but again, this was before my skin changed.

@ememem84 - that sounds like a lot on your plate, so yay to the small wins!

ememem84 · 17/06/2018 21:16

@purplenailvarnish no not on the self care thread...link?

I tried a while back doing “52 small changes” (there was a thread for this too) but didn’t make it very far. The only ones I’ve stuck to religiously are trying to drink more water and taking a multi vitamin every day!

I wore a full make up face today. So this evening have taken everything off properly. Cleansed and have moisturised my face. Yay. And put some foot cream on.

Must try and get into the habit of doing this. It’ll help me use stuff up as well as feel more like myself!
