Where in the States are you from?

Mercy · 05/05/2007 14:28

What about the Calypso or Shirley bag?

btw, you will also need some mosquito repellent.

Whizzz · 05/05/2007 14:29

OI COD - Do you want me to make you the turquoise bangle ??????
I couldn't work out if you said yes or no before ???

paulaplumpbottom · 05/05/2007 14:29

The shirly bag would work, You don't want any sort of leather on it, the stitching would give it away

Tutter · 05/05/2007 14:29

OK - will get cracking.....can do earrings too ??

Aloha · 05/05/2007 15:03

Caribbean is always hot. I think all this talk of coats v odd. Liz Hurley always does white and turquoise for hols, so think as you say, shorts and tops, swimming things, kaftan thing plus frock plus evening dress(es)should cover it.
I'd not wear shorts at all, but just lots of frocks but if I had the legs for it would definitely wear shorts. And I'd get a really good spray tan before I went.

Earlybird · 05/05/2007 15:18

Do a google search on India Hicks.

She's English, and is a former model who would be a good source of ideas. There are always fashion spreads on her, her husband/children and their glam Caribbean existence. She has a clothing line, books, toiletries, linens, a hotel, etc and all of it is presented to the Yanks as effortless beach chic with a European flair.

noddyholder · 05/05/2007 15:20

second the spray tan and maybe lash and brow tint so that you can swim etc and still look fab India Hicks always looks amazing

paulaplumpbottom · 05/05/2007 15:21

I grew up in Florida and thats where my family but I have lived in NY, NC, TX, CAL, GA. Moved around a bit. Have lived in the UK for almost 8 years now 2 of which were in Camberley and now Belfast

Issymum · 05/05/2007 16:01

"god cant i do obviously costume jewllery"

I was persuaded by the JL personal shopper to buy a necklace and matching earrings of faux over-sized pearls. They are smart, flattering but not ostentatious and very English.

BTW it was me not Beety who was alluding to stylish aping (or would that be something Helena Bonham Carter would do?).

"Get a bleaching kit for your teeth. The appearance of your teeth will be very important." Palumpabottom is right on this, my otherwise very sane boss was quite concerned about the promotion potential of one of my colleagues who has dreadful teeth. Anyway, subtle bleaching takes years off your age.

Issymum · 05/05/2007 16:02

Frocks would also be good as Americans are very trousery, so dresses would be a pleasant English eccentricity.

Aloha · 05/05/2007 16:19

White trousers and a coloured kaftan over a vest is really eurochic. the sort of thing India Hicks/Princess Marie Chantal/Liz Hurley etc wear all the time. With fab coloured sandals, ideally.

PeterAndreFanCLub · 05/05/2007 16:22

it goes dark at 6.30 pm the whole year round, warmish in the evenings, mind you it was earlier in the year so may be tres warm

Won't give you any style advice because 1, I'm older and 2, I haven't got a clue - wore lots of linen myself!

If you can find sarongs that are generous with the fabric they can look great. I have 2 that wrap around almost twice (to the ankle) and look good with a decent tshirt or vest and beads for lunches in nice restaurants straight from the beach.

NadineBaggott · 05/05/2007 16:28

which island btw?

NadineBaggott · 05/05/2007 16:29

beware your rear in shorts - however pert!

FrayedKnot · 05/05/2007 16:34

gorge if you could find something like this
