ok depsite haveing no real idea what dh does we are off on a works jolly in a ocuple of weeks to the caribbean fo four days. its a BIG deal fo dh to eb invited.

his company is from texas. there will eb a few hunder folk there, range of activites kayaking scuba divign snorkelling bike rides ectetc swimming wiht dolphins and so on.

and a restraunt night(?) and a gala dinner(!!!) coctail or long dresses - dont do long

need fashion ideas for that evenign and generaly colthing. haev lots of white bottoms need ideas fro what to wear during the day
accessories at snazzy hotel( haev never done snazzy) and so on

dh says th women will have big hari and square finger nails.

aslo how cold in the evnings

no point her turning up in a shell suit ready to hang-glide off a cliff if the texan wags are doing their nails at the pool.

I have done Posh American hotels and even when casually dressed they seem very well groomed. I think you need to dress how you would normally, just a degree smarter (Monsoon, not Primark!) and get yourself manicured, pedicured, waxed and fake tanned before you go.

Debenhams have some very good short evening wear at teh moment. They also have some nice maxi length light evening wear as well.

Laura ashley and the white house have some nice 'resort wear' looking stuff atm.

I went on a month long american carribean cruise once and that was full of texans. I was the youngest one there by a mile and i just wore shorts and strappy tops in the day with nice sandals and had a couple of nice summer dresses for going on excursions. very jazzy swim wear is a must though with nice sunglasses. evening wear was quite formal and they had lots of jewellery but I just a few nice dresses, nothing cocktailey just sparkly type things. I reckon white linen trousers with some really sparkly tops will go far

I've worked for a large American corporation (admittedly East Coast) for ten years and there is a HUGE advantage in being English. Completely inexplicably, Americans are disposed to think of us as intelligent and stylish. You don't want to lose that advantage by aping Texan style which you will never achieve and is anyway[whisper it] rather vulgar. I would cultivate that edge of English eccentricity whilst simultaneously adhering to the cultural norms of corporate America which are:

1. You must be immaculate - hair, make-up, tan, teeth, nails, accessories. There are no points for bohemian scruffiness.

1. Unlike the UK, it is as much a social solecism to under-dress as over-dress.

1. Americans (particularly corporate Americans) are rather modest, so keep the norkage count low.

Beyond that, be as English as you dare get away with. I know it's outdated, but think Four Weddings and a Funeral or Notting Hill. They will love you for it.

I think you need to get this to get a better idea of the fashion for hot weather. it's hawaii not the caribbean but close enough. (it;s still the 80's in the states, right? ...maybe you should consider growing a mustache...)

Can be cool in the evening, so a wrap or light cardi is essential. Apart from the weather, any air conditioning can make restaurants etc far far cooler than outside.
