No perfume tonight but I have showered with a caramelised honey scrub and body shop honey and almond shower gel. Might top it off with my coconut and almond dupe actually

LibertyBlue · 01/03/2018 19:41

Thanks calm for your advice, I’m going to look into this if they don’t accept my offer of instalments - it’s going to be tricky to get the money together otherwise. Just wish it hadn’t happened as it’s put me in a really difficult spot. Although I did get £750 of childcare for free, I didn’t bloody notice! My fault I know but doesn’t help me now!

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 01/03/2018 19:53

Evening all!

Fennel that All Beauty link may be my undoing..

Blue I wonder whether your employer will pass the tax saving back on or pocket it...

SotD has been vintage Ma Griffe ( a blind buy impulse eBay win). I really like this one - meant to be a green chypre but it took a long while for any green to kick in. I didn't mind one bit - as a not-too-peachy very old (iykwim) chypre until then it was very nice indeed. A little goes a long way though...

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/03/2018 20:18

Snow day SOTD is Byredo Gypsy Water. We’re shut tomorrow too. I love the beast from the east.

positivepineapple · 01/03/2018 21:05

Liberty have you got a previous contract to hand? I know in our contract there is a specific statement that says along the lines of "any overpayment will be reclaimed"

However - it doesn't state how. Are they really going to go down the legal route to force you to pay it back in one? By the time they do that you could have paid it in instalments.
Unless your previous work was in legal or debt collection, I would stick to your guns and say that you will pay it back in instalments. End of.

I'm not sure about net/gross figure but as someone has already said it will likely be the gross as your tax is no longer their responsibility. I have a really friendly payroll department and am happy to give them a call tomor on a "theoretical" situation advice.

CountFosco · 01/03/2018 21:12

Snow day tomorrow again. DH fucked up his holiday so no days of annual leave until the end of the month so I'll be covering again unless he takes unpaid leave. Luckily not too busy at work but pissed off that I've now used up 8 days of annual leave already this year. Definitely need to buy myself perfume tonight.

LibertyBlue · 01/03/2018 21:51

Thanks positivepineapple - you’ve given me a great idea - I have a good HR team where I am too. I’m going to call them and ask for their advice- hadn’t thought of that! You’re very sweet

Fosco that sucks! It’s just so crap when you waste AL on emergency childcare isn’t it? It’s the aspect of having kids I hadn’t considered. I’m lucky cause I have family nearby but the amount of days my daughter has been off nursery this year is ridiculous! I haven’t even got to school years yet, so I’ve got holiday childcare to look forward to yet.

This is turning into a childcare themed therapy Sesh! Blush sorry

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/03/2018 08:22

Hope you get things sorted blue - some great advice here. And don't apologise for 'derailing' - I love that we now offer both perfume and financial advice Wink

SOTD is Be Careful What You Wish For. I'm not sure if it was the right choice. In a bit of a bad mood this morning as am heading into work to teach what I suspect will be a very, very poorly-attended day, and am wishing I'd just set e-learning instead. I had better not get stranded at London Bridge on the way home. DP has a snow day. Grrrr.

mrsreynolds · 02/03/2018 08:35

Snow day here
Sotd...hmm. Will decide after a bath.
Sexiest scent I think...😁
Have a good weekend all x

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 02/03/2018 08:39

Snow day here too! Luckily snow day at work too which means we can work from home or work extra when the weather's better to make up for lost time. My boys will go crazy if we're in all day though!

positivepineapple · 02/03/2018 09:07

Liberty Hope you get it sorted Thanks

Snow day here too, luckily I did plan for this to be a possibility so I don't have anything essential to do until Monday. Feel awful for NHS frontline staff.

SOTD will be Orianne

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/03/2018 09:21

I was frontline NHS in 2010 when we had a lot of snow. It took me 6 hours to drive the 5 miles home one night - it just came down during the day and people were abandoning their cars in the middle of roads etc, madness Shock. The next day, I had a nightshift and couldn't get my car out of the garage due to huge snowdrifts. My dad, bless him, drove me to work and we picked up three others on the way in, and then he got up early and drove us all home again in the morning.

Glad my job is less urgent these days!

Ollivander84 · 02/03/2018 09:41

Work day for me! SOTD is 4160 sleep knot again. Not too overpowering

MotherofTerriers · 02/03/2018 09:49

Dark Heart of Havana today. No. definite no. Smells like the back of an old cupboard which needs a good clearout.

mrsreynolds · 02/03/2018 10:08

I remember 2010...it was -12 here ❄

Sotd is indeed sexiest scent

Hoping dh can get back from LHR 😣

Terriers....dark heart isn't pleasant to my nose either

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/03/2018 10:45

I don’t like Dark Heart.
Think SOTD today should be something cosy.

LibertyBlue · 02/03/2018 11:05

Fennel your dad’s a hero - he’s going to heaven! Frontline NHS staff have my total respect, more so in this weather.

Thank goodness I didn’t kill the thread with childcare chat! Thanks everyone - feeling much better about it today. Instalments will be doable, so going to stick to my guns.

Annual leave today for DH bday. Going out to lunch. SOTD will be something that doesn’t irritate my wheezy chest. Will update when selected.

MrsGruber · 02/03/2018 11:09

Brew to all. Hope, Blue, you get a decent resolution to that situation - gutting.

Aubergines - excellent to learn of your skill set. Perhaps we could persuade you to serve as thread rep!

After two days of schools closures, kids have gone back (albeit with a late start). Delighted to be home alone for a few hours - with just you guys and R4 and ebay for company Smile. Freezing though - half the radiators aren't working. I haven't taken my woolly hat off for several days.

The Dark Heart seems to divide us down the middle. Mother and Aubergines - do shout if you need to find swapees?

Mother - you must have smelt some really quite dirty cupboards? Grin Seaking of cupboards, one of my SsotD is The Lion Cupboard, which is a glorious wood/aromatic (from memory based on the smell of an old pine linen press in Sarah McCartney's family home?). Clean, warm herbal; comforting rather than musty; it has a great aromatic mint/lavender note, and rich, fragrant base (had to look up base notes as they are pretty seamlessly blended, but they are vetiver, tobacco, vanilla and cacao).

On my other arm today is 4160's aromatic oriental Parallel - featuring frankincense, caraway and mandarin. This was the second Louise Wollam collaboration. It's really good but doesn't seem to get much airplay. Belongs alongside The Lion Cupboard, and Shazam! - think they should considering doing a mini 'aromatics' collection!

Obviously, now I've plastered both arms, the postie has finally made it through the snow, with what looks like a couple of days worth of stuff, including several little packages (ebay). Will report back over the weekend...

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 02/03/2018 11:14

We're near a hospital and it warms the cockles when 4x4 owners take to Facebook offering lifts for the hospital staff.

Don't know if everyone got sorted for MG Lemon but it's £14.50 for 50ml online at The Fragrance Shop plus they have code SNOW15 today for an extra 15% off. Succumbed to All Beauty offers and offered some Insolence and LHB last night...

SotD for Violetday is Baruti Tindrer. The opening is almost minty but that's not in the notes. Really is a green start though.

LibertyBlue · 02/03/2018 11:26

The postie has just been and he’s in shorts 😱Shock

auberginesrus · 02/03/2018 11:27

Fennel and Cheap How fab to hear such amazing stories, really the best in us comes out in adverse conditions doesn't it?

Thanks for the tip on MG Lemon - they also have a 100ml bottle for £19.50 (less £2.92 with discount). Absolute bargain and needless to say I have ordered Grin

School snow day again here, and I am working from home again. SOTD is Oriane, its gorgeous but doesn't quite match my PJs, dressing gown and unwashed hair aesthetic.

auberginesrus · 02/03/2018 11:29

Not many Dark Heart fans on here by the looks of it but I have a barely sniffed 9ml to swap - all reasonable offers considered!

Ollivander84 · 02/03/2018 11:44

If you're ordering from the perfume shop and fancy an incredibly sweet perfume, this is £5
Smells like candy floss

Calmwhoknows · 02/03/2018 11:45

I love Dark Heart of Old Havana - of fruit and sugar simmering away in booze-infused vats. There is a thread on Basenotes where posters have been swapping samples and discussing them. Very interesting, but no great love for Dark Heart there either 🙁!

MrsGruber · 02/03/2018 11:55

Brilliant Cheap. Great they are back online and at a great price. Oriental/oud fans should check out Fire. Plum has a devoted following too and nods a bit to Poison?
