Back in the '60's at primary, the cool bag was from M&S but it had to be the white one from the food department. These were quite exclusive as the nearest M&S was 30 miles away.

MaureenMLove · 03/05/2007 17:21

You were cool if you had a particular marchandise placky bag from a concern in my day. It was a square white one with JAZZ, FUNK, SOUL written on it. If you had one of them - you were in!

PenelopePitstops · 03/05/2007 17:24

ooh olive oil - I used to work in Benetton too! I still fold my jumpers like that (jumper on chest etc...) If Dh folds jumpers in half vertially I have to refold them.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/05/2007 18:47

Some of my acquaintance did the carrier bag in a jelly bag. The preferred carrier being Chelsea Girl or Troubadour (little shop in Sutton).

But I was in the horsey set and never turned my nose up at a nice dark green Lester Bowdens bag (expensive sadlers).

dont remember anyone having any money for carrier bags of note to be a factor at school... it was firmly understood tho that you never ever wore your rucksack on both shoulders - what kind of a geek does that??

don't remember doing carrier bags but I do remember my jelly bag, my army surplus shoulder bag with the Alarm scrawled on it, a sort of basket thing that was like a bamboo blind (loved that one, especially as you could see my fags through it, and it barely had any room for books, just in case anyone doubted how hard I was ) and a yellow thing with lots of zips on that looked like something Howard Jones would wear

hatwoman · 03/05/2007 21:01

OMG mrs B - those jelly bags are absolutely identical - they haven't updated them one single bit. do you reckonn they found a job lot that had been forgotten about?

lol sally!

i was called the bag lady at school coz i always had my rucksack, at least 1 other bag and several carrier bags too (all supermarket usually) coz my parents were separated and i couldnt for the life of me ever figure out which house i was supposed to be going home to that or the next day...

come to think of it, i had a collection of 'nice' carrier bags for yearsafter that, stashed away in my room just in case i neeed a carrier and didnt want it to be sainsbuggers or coops)

RustyBear · 03/05/2007 21:21

We used to have those wicker shopping baskets (Late 60's/early 70's) - very impractical for books and files, which was presumably the point.

RustyBear · 03/05/2007 21:22

btw Duchess, were you at school in Epsom?
