Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

Hi Positivepineapple, I'm very new here too - I got a sample set plus a few others from 4160, and have also ordered a set and a few more from Atelier cologne, which haven't arrived yet

I'm trying a different one each day with an open mind, trying to wean myself off JM lime basil mandarin.

explodingkittens · 16/02/2018 15:12

I'm so, so tempted by a Bloom subscription.

Motoko · 16/02/2018 15:26

The Perfume Society boxes are good, and if you sign up to be a VIP subscriber for £25, you get the VIP box and after that, you get £5 off the other boxes.
I recently got the Catwalk Collection from there for £10, and as well as the perfumes, it came with a Benefit mascara, a Nails Inc polish, and a Percy and Reed hair treatment, so it was excellent value for money.

CountFosco · 16/02/2018 17:06

Kittens I got one for my birthday, only had one box so far but like that they are themed quite tightly, so my first box was 'aldehydes' and you got what felt like considered examples of how aldehydes are used in perfume, I felt like I learnt more from that box than I have from other sample sets. Think the ideal would be that plus the nose subscription so you could get small bottle of your favourites each month.

explodingkittens · 16/02/2018 17:08

Yes that's exactly it @count - I feel as if I'm at the stage where I want to learn about scent and really start to identify notes now, not just merrily spray and think 'nice or not nice!'Grin

BroomstickOfLove · 16/02/2018 17:13

Hello. I'm posting here because I have fallen head over heels in love with Andy Tauer's PHI: Une Rose de Kandehar, and I wanted to share my joy. I ordered a sample last week and haven't wanted to wear anything else, and today and have hideous PMS and the early stages of a hormonal migraine and it still smells good to me, which no other perfume ever does.

JanetStWalker · 16/02/2018 17:22

Welcome Broomstick! Falling head over heels for a perfume is just the best feeling, I totally get it, my true love is Coromandel. Smile
,
PHI is one of the only Tauer's I get on with, to the point that I actually used to own a bottle. Do you get much rose from it? I barely got any which was really disappointing and why I ended up selling it. The apricot/almond thing was nice though and the bottle was lovely.

lasttimeround · 16/02/2018 18:22

Floozy I love that your daughter makes scents too.
I'm determined to make it to the Indian shop thus weekend to buy some almond oil if I can get get round to ordering unscented lotion/cream. I keep ending up using this floral body butter I have from waitrose which doesn't go with all my spicy oriental perfumes. Plus I'm really hankering to wear some of my big ones which stay closer to skin when I spray into oil first. At least I tell myself they do.

lasttimeround · 16/02/2018 18:23

I've had a fortnight when people hug me and then say oh you smell gorgeous. But worried I'm wafting too loudly...

explodingkittens · 16/02/2018 19:12

Hi @broomstick - I am a Tauer fan but I've not tried Une Rose de Kandahar. I do have that head-over-heels feeling for Une Rose Chypree though...it makes the world a better place Smile

Talking of which...thank you so much @Floofy for the lovely parcel full of goodies! I'm looking forward to trying them all, very sweet of you. Actually very excited about the JHaG Mad Madame - I think that's a @judy fave, isn't it?

It's been a bumper evening for me - there was also a parcel from 4160s - Creamy Vanilla Crumble and Rhubarb & Custard, plus a freebie of Rosa Ribes.

I'm going to have the most gloriously scented weekend!

explodingkittens · 16/02/2018 19:51

Half price SOTW on 4160s is the fabulous Another Kiss by the Fireside. Smoky woods, cinnamon and lavender, highly recommended.

@bluebell, it is you that loves Creamy Vanilla Crumble isn't it? It's early days but, against expectations, I think this might be something of a mini-masterpiece. I was expecting something sweet, friendly and hopefully not too cloying, but there's that wonderful undercurrent of tobacco and even a slightly incensey note that is just, well, bloody marvellous. Very very impressed so far.

JanetStWalker · 16/02/2018 20:14

25% off everything at Escentual. They have designer and niche including SL and some 4160s.

mrsreynolds · 17/02/2018 08:51

A parcel of sex goddess arrived this morning...thank you! ❤
I haven't put any on yet as still feeling ugh but looking forward to trying it

MotherofTerriers · 17/02/2018 09:32

Well today, I smell like a tarts knicker drawer
Reminds me of old fashioned floral talcum powder
Not in a bad way, quite pleasant

explodingkittens · 17/02/2018 09:59

Apples & Pears arrived just now - thank you @Janet! This is a really interesting one - I'm getting apple pie and sucked metal spoons at the moment Grin

Ollivander84 · 17/02/2018 11:17

I've ordered a 9ml another kiss by the fireside
SOTD is a cheap copy off eBay, iso e super

CountFosco · 17/02/2018 11:36

SotD Fleur de Sel from my TPS joining box. Suitably austere for a February. Then my next Bloom Subscription arrived (Aphrodisiacs although reading through the descriptions it could also be called skank, will need to check if SFW before applying!) so I have so many new samples to try it's crazy.

Just about to go out and post a sample to Kittens.

MrsGruber · 17/02/2018 12:12

Flowers for Janet. Thank you so much - think that's the most wonderful package to have ever arrived through my letter box. Think you may be a Scent Twin (non-evil variety); I will be paying very close attention to your SotD choices for future inspiration.

mrsreynolds · 17/02/2018 16:59

Well my second day of running around and looking after poorly dh
Wanted something really comforting so went for valentino poudree
It's a creamy dream

explodingkittens · 17/02/2018 18:42

Oh dear, hope dh gets well soon @mrsr

Have had a very lazy day today. Sorted out my samples box and have (perhaps prematurely) moved to spring scents, so of course that probably means we'll have torrential rain and heavy snow next week Grin

Have enjoyed Be Careful What You Wish For today. Wasn't sure if fruity oud would really be my thing but it has a passing resemblance to Eau My Soul, which I adore (think it's maybe sandalwood?)

Anyway, looking forward to the Big Sniff tomorrow!

JanetStWalker · 17/02/2018 19:01

@kittens, sounds delightful lol. It reeked of picked onions to me...now you understand why I passed it on. Grin

Have you tried Ambre Narguile for real apple pie?

JanetStWalker · 17/02/2018 19:01

Pickled onions, obviously.

JanetStWalker · 17/02/2018 19:15

You're very kind, MrsG. Have a feeling most of my upcoming SOTD's are going to be from the glorious selection you sent to me, might not be that interesting for you! Grin.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 17/02/2018 19:24

Have spent too long today thinking about Bloom Subscriptions. Dangerous ground...

SotD was La Pausa. A lovely clean powdery iris beauty. Sort of wish I had spent the day wafting about on cream carpets dressed in white linen rather than dashing about after DSs, including birthday party and subsequent rainbow drops induced craziness, though.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 17/02/2018 19:52

After years of liking things with rosy/flowery tones: lancome hypnose and midnight rose, a Cartier perfume (pink), Dior Absolutely Blooming, I think I have found my heart's delight in Estee Lauder's Modern Muse, eau de parfum.

I'm very much a novice but since I went back to work in 2003 i havecalways treated myself to a nice perfume. M&S did a wonderful one called Bloom I think which was v similar to Hypnose but it was discontinued ages ago. I haven't found anything great in there for a long time.
