Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

Ah yes mrsr, I had a mini of this as a young teen and couldn't wait to grow up and be sophisticated enough to wear it. I'm still waiting...Grin

Wow, that has taken me ages to read. Is everyone spring cleaning their perfume cupboards and buying new storage boxes?

Thanks Calm, great research
This is from the Royal Mail website:

Perfumes and Aftershaves
(including eau de parfum and eau de toilette)
Packaging guidelines: Volume per item must not exceed 150ml. No more than four items in any one parcel.
Must be sent in its original retail packaging, placed in strong outer packaging and cushioned to prevent breakage. Must be presented at the counter. Sender’s name and address must be visible on the parcel.

So, you can’t just put it in a postbox and you can’t just get a supply of the special perfume “Y” labels to put on (I’ve asked!). You have to go to the post office counter so they can complete the form (just a tick box) and put the label in. But you don’t pay anything extra for the perfume label, just for the normal post (it will need to be large letter rate if it is over .5mm depth). The counter staff may ask how many bottles there are, how many mls and if it is the original packaging.

SotD was MJ Daisy Eau so Fresh, rather disappointing. There was evidently a reason it was at the back of the cupboard. So far this week I have been wearing light fruity florals (i'm trying to persuade my nose that it is not streaming like a toddlers). Miserable fail

SotE is JSP's Smolderose. Big and jammy rose poured over smoke, saffron, incense, patch and oud, complete with a sprinkling of salt and citrus. It has a sillage comparable to London Zoo's elephant house. I may be made to scrub before bed Grin.

I'm going to have to get some Tauer Lonestar Memories. Judy, Piam and Kittens are making me jealous. I've also forgotten why I was boycotting him Blush something about not shipping samples to uk.

Terriers, gosh you managed to fall down the rabbit hole fast. Grin Have fun sniffing.

MrsG I haven't smelt MJ Grass Splash, he has made so many. Wonder if they will do some more re-releases this year. Still waiting foe Pink Grapefruit to come back.

Could someone remind me of the MrsGloss code please - can't seem to find it? Just looking for a friend you understand...Grin

explodingkittens · 15/02/2018 06:55

It's just mrsgloss. 40% is a jolly nice discount eyes bank balance sadly

explodingkittens · 15/02/2018 07:12

SOTD is CdG Concrete. A Basenotes review has this as a 'flattened Feminite de Bois' and I think I'd agree. It has a sweet, creamy sandalwood note running all the way through which is nice enough but none of the interesting grubbiness that I can detect in the SL. Meh.

However, just remembered that my SJP bargain pack should be ready to be picked up later so hopefully will have something a bit more interesting to work with later. Amused by the idea that a slebscent might be more intriguing than a CdG one, but i guess they can't make stuff of the quality of Avignon every time...

mrsreynolds · 15/02/2018 07:47

Sotd prob addict...what a creamy dream of a perfume it is!
Need to do a few household errands then taking ds1 to see black panther
I simply cannot buy more perfume until after Easter (it's lent after all 😁)
We are decorating our bedroom and it's costing a bit more than first envisaged 🤔

JanetStWalker · 15/02/2018 08:43

Lots of trains today so needed to throw on something that will protect, comfort and last....Coromandel it is then! Any excuse Grin

JanetStWalker · 15/02/2018 08:48

Love that SJP's offerings are potentially more exciting than the achingly cool CdG. This is why MN's corner of the fragrance world rocks!

BluebellGal · 15/02/2018 09:08

SOTD 4160 Rome 1963

Remiscent of an old dusty library and a bit like L’air de rien. I think this is one I need to persevere with to understand. It’s definitely intriguing

This thread moves so fast!! Someone wanted my Miller Harris - please PM me. Glad you got the samples Teta hopefully floozy got hers too (I forgot to tick Perfume on the Y label & was getting worried they’d gone missing!)

FragrantFloozy · 15/02/2018 09:20

Can’t decide on a SOTD. Can still smell Addict on me. Shower soon and I’ll decide.

I fell down a Fragrantica rabbit hole last night of looking up my favourite perfumes and the Nosed behind them. Previously totally ignorant about It, other than knowing I like Sophia Grojsman (Paris, Paris Premieres Roses, ET Diamonds & Rubies, Yvresse). Was really interesting.

I learned that Alexis Dadier, one of the noses behind Womanity (which I still haven’t sniffed, but seems to be a real Marmite fragrance) is also the nose behind Fancy by Jessica Simpson, one of my ultimate gourmands.

And Michel Almourac, who is the nose behind my favourite CBA perfume Burberry Women, also created Chopard Casmir.

Fascinating. I’d like to a GCSE in Perfume Stuff Grin.

FragrantFloozy · 15/02/2018 09:20

*do a GCSE

FragrantFloozy · 15/02/2018 09:21

Gah @ typos!

MrsPestilence · 15/02/2018 09:43

Love the idea of a GCSE in Perfume Stuff Floozy Grin

SotD is Union Celtic Fire. Very Celtic fringe, I smell like a peat fire Confused

I fear you may have to go via the Mrs Gloss FB page MrsG. Maybe someone who has used it could provide a link. Blue, Kittens HELP

FragrantFloozy · 15/02/2018 09:55

I’ve decided on Yardley Jade. Forgot how nice this is.

explodingkittens · 15/02/2018 10:09

No it's fine re the discount - you don't need the FB page. Just go via the Mrs Gloss page on the 4160s site and put in the code mrsgloss at checkout. Easy peasy!

explodingkittens · 15/02/2018 10:10

I really do think it's about time we lobbied Sarah Mac for an MN Perfumista discount 😉

mrsreynolds · 15/02/2018 10:48

I'm wafting about in addict and vanilla essence as I've been baking 😊
I do love a half hour on fragrantica...
