Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

for grabs

BluebellGal · 14/02/2018 08:40

SOTD Agonist No.10 White Oud. It’s immediately very musky, with a fairly strong ambergris which is gorgeous and a lighter oud Woodiness (might be good one to try for people who struggle with oud). It’s very unique, unlike anything else I’ve tried. I really like it. I might be swayed by the brand here, but it does come across all skandi minimalist and a bit trendy!

OCSockOrphanage · 14/02/2018 09:14

Anybody got a quick source for empty vials? I have had two requests for the Who Knew and as there's plenty I would split it.

teta · 14/02/2018 09:32

Fragrant Floozy and Bluebell I would love to swop the Heure Exquise and the Fetish plus the mini Miller Harris’s . I have lots and lots of samples for swop if you tell me what your ‘thing’ is.
Fragrant I just spray directly into the 2-10 ml spray vials from the perfume bottle. For pure perfume you need a pipette - a new one for each perfume. I order the vials from ebay. Some perfume sprays are easier to employ than others and at times I’ve feared I’m getting RSI to my trigger finger!
Sotd is Wrappings. I am endeavouring to get out of my ‘pure distance white ‘ slot. As I’ve just wanted to wear it continually eschewing all my ‘woodies’ . My Pure Distance Antonia decant seems to have got lost over the Atlantic. How much time do you give a seller to sort things out?
Bluebell thank you for the adorable package of samples.

mrsreynolds · 14/02/2018 09:50

Ds2 has a playdate today so sexiest scent for me
It's fast becoming one of my favourites ❤
Happy Valentine's day lovely fragrant ones

explodingkittens · 14/02/2018 10:05

Happy Valentine's Day all - am in sweet and romantic PS Rose, not that dp has noticed Grin

Love all the swapping, requests are going in the post today bizarrely organised by my usual standards

A quick question - I know there are all sorts of rules around sending perfume in the post. I have sent a couple before and just stuck a load of postage on and hoped for the best, rather than telling the post office what's in the packages. What does everyone else do?

I've ordered some spray vials and funnels from Amazon so can do decants soon - though my FB horde is not nearly as exciting as some!

teta · 14/02/2018 10:34

Explodingkittens I always tell the Post Office if it’s perfume so it has a special sticker on. I’ve never lost one in the post because of it.There are rules that you can only send two bottles in one package and they must be in their original packaging.I ignore those Grin. I tend to wrap up samples into a package using bubble wrap / tissue paper and make sure I never have more than two ‘ packages ‘ in each envelope.I also use bubble envelopes that I buy in multi packs in a range of sizes often from the pound shops. The most important thing is to make sure the vials are well sealed and perfume bottles need really secure packaging. Usually boxes, padding, sealed lid and an external padded envelope.

MotherofTerriers · 14/02/2018 12:52

I've ordered some samples from 4160, and got a lovely email from them saying they will be sent out soon. Don't know how long the Atelier ones will take as not in UK.
Quite excited

mrsreynolds · 14/02/2018 12:54

I have 2 4610 samples If anyone wants them?
Lady rose lion
Doe in the snow
2.5mls

MrsGruber · 14/02/2018 13:18

What did you go for from 4160s Terriers?

auberginesrus · 14/02/2018 13:24

Hello lovely Perfume ladies,
I've been lurking for a while as I'm looking for new perfume ideas and after reading your posts succumbed to ordering a 4160s sample set which arrived yesterday - the Fresh Outdoors one. I'm wearing the London 1969 today which smelt exactly like sherbet lemons when I put it on, then settled into something I wasn't keen on (I think it is the violet) but now smells absolutely gorgeous. Looking forward to trying the others.

I feel very inexperienced in the perfume world compared to some of you! I like fresh and floral scents, like a bit of gourmand but nothing too full on. One of my favourite recentish perfumes was L'Occitane Bergamot and Jasmine but they have discontinued it Sad. I really like the Shay and Blue Atropa Belladonna too but it lasts about 5 minutes on me. Quite fond of Miss Dior original and the newer one which I think started out as Cherie. And I don't mind Mon Guerlain but doesn't last that long. Find "classics" like Shalimar, No 5 etc just give me a headache!

Years ago I had a solid perfume from Gap which smelt of cut grass which I loved, would like to find something similar to that again - all suggestions welcome!

Calmwhoknows · 14/02/2018 13:31

This is from the Royal Mail website:

Perfumes and Aftershaves
(including eau de parfum and eau de toilette)
Packaging guidelines: Volume per item must not exceed 150ml. No more than four items in any one parcel.
Must be sent in its original retail packaging, placed in strong outer packaging and cushioned to prevent breakage. Must be presented at the counter. Sender’s name and address must be visible on the parcel.

So, you can’t just put it in a postbox and you can’t just get a supply of the special perfume “Y” labels to put on (I’ve asked!). You have to go to the post office counter so they can complete the form (just a tick box) and put the label in. But you don’t pay anything extra for the perfume label, just for the normal post (it will need to be large letter rate if it is over .5mm depth). The counter staff may ask how many bottles there are, how many mls and if it is the original packaging.

Calmwhoknows · 14/02/2018 13:41

“... and put the label on” (not “in”!). Also if the package is more than 2.5mls in depth, it is a parcel rather than a letter and costs more to post.

FragrantFloozy · 14/02/2018 14:49

teta, inbox me your details and I’ll send! On a train at the moment so crappy WiFi. Intending to post out samples Friday x

MotherofTerriers · 14/02/2018 15:12

MrsGruber, I went for the city collection, then also MrsGlossMadeMeDoit, Rosa Ribes, Sexiest Scent, Sunshine and Pancakes, Tarts Knicker drawer and Babylon Sunset

MotherofTerriers · 14/02/2018 15:13

Oh, and somebody asked and I forgot to answer
I am mother to two elderly border terriers and a year old yorkie
Plus adult DS and DD

mrsreynolds · 14/02/2018 15:33

Oooh let me know what you think of sexiest scent!!

MotherofTerriers · 14/02/2018 15:52

Will do. Really hard not to just pick the ones with interesting names!

JanetStWalker · 14/02/2018 15:56

I've got a real soft spot for border terriers. Please tell me all their bad habits and put me off.

lasttimeround · 14/02/2018 17:12

motoko we had jasmin up a fence too where I grew up. My memory is so strong of it at night, starry sky and just scent. I love jasmin and feel it suits me far more than rose as a floral.

aubergine I never caught the gap grass smell. But lush to a solid perfume that smells like hay...so not green grass more harvested fields. I haven't worn it but loved the idea in store.

I loved the reminiscing of previous scents. I'm thinking of rebuying some of mine. I wore fendi in school- older school -I can't csll the smell to mind. Feel i might like it. Before that the original chloe (which I don't like). I also loved Roma by Laura biagiotti - again maybe buy a wee sample. Then wore the body shop vanilla for first few years of uni. Must have smelt like a cake. I remember loving it - I still find vanilla really comforting and cosy but can't find a good vanilla perfume. After that I wore kenzo summer in this bright yellow leaf shaped bottle. Not the new green bottle Damn thing haunts me. It actually came back to me in a dream just after I'd gotten back into perfume. I'd totally forgotten it! Id so love to smell it again. I think its got loads of mimosa which I love. Just a warm happy sunny perfume. Funny how warm all my big choices are - given it was such an aquatic period with all those water ozonic notes. I remember ckone everywhere and finding it didn't suit me at all. I wonder why I didn't go for obsession...

explodingkittens · 14/02/2018 17:16

Bluebell, I went for the mrsgloss discount on Rhubarb & Custard 1:29 and Creamy Vanilla Crumble, both 9mls. I hope they're as lovely as you say they are Wink

So I now have quite a lot of perfume arriving this month Blush. I really, really need to rein it in but it's soooooo hard when there are so many gorgeous, tempting smells out there...

No. More. Until. Payday.

mrsreynolds · 14/02/2018 17:37

Last time...
I would urge you to try Dior addict 😊

FragrantFloozy · 14/02/2018 18:00

I’m still on a train. Been travelling all day. MrsR, you’ve inspired me to get my Addict out tonight once home Grin

mrsreynolds · 14/02/2018 18:15

Sexiest scent for me....

Maybe addict tomorrow...

lasttimeround · 14/02/2018 18:22

Thanks for the recommendation mrsreynolds I just looked it up on fragrantica vanilla and balsamic. Floral plus spice. Yes that sounds really really up my street
