Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

Really like Eldo you or someone like you mrsgruber smells like a floral mojito to my nose. I have some on my desk at work and it’s a great pick me up for that afternoon slump. So fresh and zingy. For the same purpose, I also like Shay and Blue Dandelion Fig!

FragrantFloozy · 13/02/2018 00:58

I’m in a sample of M.Micallef Mon Parfum tonight.

Frigging patchouli...I hate it when it’s prominent! This had me uncontrollably sneezing (no joke...snotting!) and borderline retching on first spray. Imagine Angel on steroids . Yep! Nasty...

But the drydown is niiiice. Citrus, caramel, booze, musk, absolute filth...not the boring millennial it is on paper in the slightest. Dirty stop out gloriousness. I definitely would Wink

Morning all Smile

Loving No Malone - I've never really got the hype tbh. When I was pg with ds (so, 15 years ago) a lovely friend bought me a JM set - 6 wee bottles to layer. None of them lasted. I did wear the ubiquitous limebasilandmandarin quite a bit but I think now it would just remind me of how miserable I was at the time (difficult pregnancy, horrible xh).

Mother, funny you should mention figgy fumes - this morning I'm in Debaser by DS & Durga which is a lovely freshly-squished green fig scent with an undertow of coconut. It really is rather scrumptious. Think I could build a Trades Descriptions case though - as a huge Pixies fan I was aiming for something reminiscent of sweat-drenched, beer-soaked indie disco nights...what I got was more like a frolic in a damp garden on a summer's eve, but I suppose I can see how that might be more appealing to most people GrinGrin

explodingkittens · 13/02/2018 07:24

@fragrant that sounds right up my street!

mrsreynolds · 13/02/2018 07:41

Linear
Yes that's the word
Just like the cheap eau de colognes from the chemist when I was a child
Say what you like though - JM and TF have managed to market their wares so successfully no one has noticed their mediocrity!
Apparently TF did a limited edition Youth dew some years ago which was very successful (nude?)
Maybe it made him think be could be a perfumier?
Of course in this case he was working with one if the great scents of the 20th century - hard to get it wrong?
Anyway.....enough of my witterings!
Sotd...hmm
Don't know yet
Maybe next cashmere actually

MrsGruber · 13/02/2018 08:24

Think you are being very hard on Mr Ford. Smile. His Private Blend collection is easily the most intertesting thing to go and sniff in our shopping centre. If they weren't so aspirationally priced, I'd enjoy wearing several of them. And Sahara Noir was a masterpiece. Smile.

JanetStWalker · 13/02/2018 08:42

The thing with No Malone and TF is that they're very cleverly selling a lifestyle not just a fragrance, an aspirational one, naturally Wink People lap it up so they're obviously doing something right.

I own a couple from each so can't write them off entirely. They hold their own next to various vintage, poncey niche stuff and all the other 'essentials' in my collection.

mrsreynolds · 13/02/2018 09:15

All very emperors new clothes for me mrsg 😁
Today will mostly be spent cleaning so a next cashmere it is laced with bleach

JanetStWalker · 13/02/2018 09:17

Talking of poncey niche...I'm wearing Lyric, just the thing for a dismal Tuesday working from home Hmm

Should have gone for Sunshine and Pancakes really. Smile

lasttimeround · 13/02/2018 09:39

Can anyone recommend a scent free lotion or cream? I have dry skin desperate for more care but get irritated with clashing product smells.

mrsreynolds · 13/02/2018 09:43

I would recommend lush body creams - dream cream if you have dry or easily irritated skin
It's amazing stuff!

CountFosco · 13/02/2018 09:49

Grin We are clearly of the same vintage. You'd need a lot of patchouli in it as well as the skank and alcohol.

CountFosco · 13/02/2018 09:50

Finally got my TPS joining box. Annoyingly I'd chosen my SotD minutes before so couldn't try out 24 Old Bond Street like I wanted to.

JanetStWalker · 13/02/2018 10:13

MrsG, the postman has just delivered the most wonderful bundle of treasures...I can't wait to get stuck in! (I may need to have a mid morning shower to scrub off this bloody Lyric)

Seriously thank you so much, it's incredibly generous. Smile

JanetStWalker · 13/02/2018 10:21

I've got a bunch of those 2ml sprayers but I can't for the life of me get the tops off to fill them up, is there a knack to it or do they just hate me?!

Ordered more glass ones instead to finish decanting your swaps. Wink

Motoko · 13/02/2018 10:26

i've just got a sample of TF Black Violet. On first spray it smells like a cheap perfume, a hint of violet and soap or bubble bath. Sillage is non existent, I'm having to stick my wrist right under my nose to smell it.
Very disappointing.

BluebellGal · 13/02/2018 10:34

Inspired by the chat here yesterday, I’m in Yardleys English Freesia. I think this is a relatively new addition to the line, it’s a well blended citrus and freesia cologne with great sillage so far. Sunny and bright, I like it.

Janet you need to pinch the bottle to get the m tops off. I find getting the seal more difficult (wait for the click). Maybe try using a cloth?

Fosco love 24 Old Bond Street- it’s on my FB wish list

JanetStWalker · 13/02/2018 10:56

That worked, Bluebell, thanks! Tricky little buggers aren't they, I might just stick to my glass jobs and hope they arrive in one piece.

MotherofTerriers · 13/02/2018 11:34

Well I ordered the discovery set from Atelier and a few more samples that fell in my trolley while I was looking
I work from home, and I know I use food as a reward (finish that section and you can have a biscuit kind of thing) so hopefully finish that section and you can try a new perfume will work instead
I think I need to be patient and see how they change over a few hours and not just give a quick sniff and hand over anything not immediately appealing to my daughter.

explodingkittens · 13/02/2018 12:37

😂 @count - am thinking fondly of my knackered old DMs, 50p for a double vodka and coke and sweat running down the walls of my favourite student dive bar!

mrsreynolds · 13/02/2018 12:37

I also use an aveeno dry skin spray

CountFosco · 13/02/2018 13:14

Kittens I only wore DMs from 1989 to 2001. After a few years of me pretending to be a grown up and trying to wear heels DH bought me purple DMs a few years ago for my birthday. I love them and get so many compliments on them.

FragrantFloozy · 13/02/2018 13:15

SOTD is Floral Street Chypre Sublime. Its a forthcoming Big Sniff, so won't say too much about it Wink.

I feel wretched today. The weather is grim again here. Off to buy pancake ingredients at the constant whining request of DD...

BluebellGal · 13/02/2018 13:30

The English Freesia is still going strong and it’s really pleasant. Uplifting and does smell of freesias (as well as citrus and musk now). Only £7.99 a bottle, with better longevity & sillage than No Malone’s pear and freesia (but does smell quite different- this is more musky)...I can recommend it! For violet lovers, I can recommend April Violets- it’s woody, has a citrus opening and the violet is soft and powdery rather than screechy iyswim

My student days were fragranced by Angel (for which I must apologise to my fellow library companions), Bulgari The Vert, JPG Gaulitier Classique and the Marc Jacobs.
