My hairdresser is going on maternity leave at the end of next month - I have quite a precise Louise Brooks style bob with a slightly curved fringe, and I am scared of seeing someone different. I’ve been going to her for nine years! I’ve managed to sneak in one last cut on her final day at work, then I’m on my own.

SilverHawk · 16/12/2017 22:20

Hello again, Please try and help! How on earth do you stop your jumpers/scarfs/coats taking up the smell of perfume?
I don't have a signature scent and chop and change at whim.
Please don't say wash everything
MrsMacNally scored a full bottle of the lovely Seville oranges of e of bay for a very good price.

MrsPestilence · 16/12/2017 23:00

Silver spray perfume while getting dressed, tummy, decolletage. So it only gets onto your t-shirt, blouse, things that are getting washed at the end of the day. Or just go for it and have the scarf of a thousand scents.

MrsMacNally · 17/12/2017 00:44

Congratulations Silver!

Had a sniff of Etui Noir tonight. Very nice dry woody leather (on the gently oud-y end of things, softened by a heart of powdery iris). Could be going back for a larger bottle...

CountFosco · 17/12/2017 10:01

ACD SotD Blanche Immortelle. Immortelle, bergamot and mimosa apparently. I smell like TCP. I hope tomorrows is better than the last two days for the sake of my officemates if nothing else.

explodingkittens · 17/12/2017 10:51

SOTD is Bodhi Language. This really is an underrated gem, I reckon. Starts off with a creamy coconut sweetness but quickly morphs into sandalwood with a slight boozy edge. It's rather like a more 'feminine' Tam Dao, imo. Very warming and wearable.

Evening! Quiet day here today!!

SotD was ACAC Oud Saphir. I do need to admit at this point that I've never tried anything oudy before so I don't know if this is normal but all I could smell was DIY store. That sort of dry plastery smell if you know what I mean. I'm just baffled by this one...

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 17/12/2017 19:33

Ooh, and 4160 Tuesday's are doing 20% off all 30, 50 and 100ml bottles. Making Eau My Soul a bit more tempting...!

MrsPestilence · 17/12/2017 19:56

SotD is Noix de Tubereuse. I saw that too Cheap but then got busy and did not report back here Xmas Blush

MrsPestilence · 17/12/2017 19:57

From now until 7th January, the code BigHint gets you 20% off full price 30, 50 & 100ml bottles.
Drop a big hint.

Back home after a long and exhausting business trip. I enjoyed wearing Prada Infusions Amande (received quite a few compliments on it) and MFK Satin Mood oud.

My Bloom & Perfume Parlour orders had arrived. The Bloom box is cute and will make a good gift- have wrapped it for DH Xmas present. All 1ml decant sprays with simple labels explaining notes. No branded samples like the Perfume Society (which make great gifts for this reason).

The PP bottles are quite nice looking and I’ve packaged a few for gifts. So far I’ve worn on my skin Baccarat Rouge 540 (MFK dupe) it’s a perfect copy, smells exactly like the original and has amazing longevity like the original. It’s got that same medical/candyfloss character that I find so weird, yet beguiling! Highly recommended.

Next I tried Imperial Tea (Kilian copy) I haven’t smelt the original but this is a pure green jasmine tea fragrance. It’s nice, but a bit too much, it’s very linear and too reminiscent of the free tea you get in a Chinese restaurant or medicine shop. I’m just not sure it’s for me as it’s too linear.

Next I tried PP (Guerlain) Chamade. I don’t know the original and this smells quite complex and extremely old fashioned. It smells like a soap that you might buy a posh, older gentleman. That’s what springs to mind for me Blush. It’s powdery but very green and so this is the reason I think of soap for gentlemen. Not a very sophisticated description but it’s definitely not for me!

BluebellGal · 17/12/2017 21:12

You’re hair sounds very cool Judy my DH is a big Louise Brooks fan. Hope your next hairdresser can do it justice.

mrsmacnally I find that MH Etui Noir works well for layering as well as on its own. There have been lots of cheap (I think genuine) bottles floating around on eBay

Judydreamsofhorses · 17/12/2017 21:19

SOTDis MMM Fireplace. I am so tired and fed up so needed something cosy - I really, really wish we weren’t in work until Friday!

bluebell I always have good hair, red lipstick, and smell nice, even if the rest of me is falling apart!

MrsMacNally · 18/12/2017 00:19

My hairdresser is off to Chile....he is coming back, but nor for a while Shock.

Day 17 and it's....OML Waves/WiFi-Aquamarine-Clarity. Listed notes include lavender, grapefruit, rosemary, hemlock and seaweed. This has quite a brisk, citrus/aromatic opening, continues in a feisty vein when the grapefruit runs full pelt into the jasmine, and then softens, passing through an old school Play Doh phase before the marine notes come through. I haven't tried with alpha and beta yet. Think the ubiquitous citrus/marine bathroom aroma chemical thing makes this space quite challenging.

CountFosco · 18/12/2017 07:08

ACD SotD Silver Iris. Unlike Cheap I was ready for the blast of blackcurrent and as a Ribena fan enjoy it. Reminds me of the raspberry hit in TKD.

FloofyCatIsComingToTown · 18/12/2017 09:39

WinkMotoko have you used your Peacock dye yet? I like their Carnation pink, but the longevity isn't as good as some others (I feel like I should discuss the silage here too Grin)

Silver sorry but you just have to go for The Scarf of a Thousand Scents; it's obligatory here! I love perfume wafts from clothes, especially from furry collars/trim on coats etc at this time of year.

It's so interesting reading the advent calendar updates (have you not had any perfume in the Liberty's one yet bluebell?) Last week I had various AC treasures including muscle rub and measuring spoons - it makes me smile as they are odd presents but perfect for me!

I'm a bit late to the Mugler discussion but I'm currently trying out a sample of the original Alien, and surprisingly I quite like it. I've tried a couple of the flankers (absolue essence and another one whose name escapes me) and they were very medicinal on me maybe it's the muscle rub

PIAM I am so jealous of the Harrods hamper, you lucky thing! I used to love Harrods food hall, but haven't been in years. Sadly I have Harrods taste but an Aldi budget these days Grin

Also very jealous of the school finishers too, Friday here for us and I cannot wait. I think I am more desperate than the DC Xmas Wink

SOTD is Shalimar, as it is terribly foggy and cold here, and I have had my big furry coat on. In my head I am stylish and glamorous, in RL it's probably more of a dishevelled bag lady crossed with and eccentric grandmother look HmmGrin

PerfumeIsAMessage · 18/12/2017 09:47

I cut my own and have done ever since a woman in Spain in 1986 gave me a 1980s Bonnie Tyler.

SoTD (and yesterday) Opium.

Pondering whether to ask dp for
Shalimar
LHB
a Tauer

for Christmas.

It would end up being Shalimar as he won't online shop and I can't see shops here having classic Guerlains other than Shalimar and Samsara.

Risk is, I might end up with PRN or any of its revolting flankers.

explodingkittens · 18/12/2017 17:05

No SOTD here as went naked (scent-wise, at least) to the shops today in anticipation of lots of sneaky spraying whilst buying for others. Didn't happen Shock. The Chanel concession in HoF had all the Exclusifs and I was dying for a splash of Coromandel, but I could hardly get near them for people clamouring for 'the new one' (ie the tedious and unmemorable Gabrielle). I huffed off, muttering darkly.

Did buy my SIL some Nuxe Prodigeuse oil which came with a free scented candle, which I may swipe for myself in consolation.

As far as the Venn diagram is concerned, having glanced in several shop windows and mirrors today, I fear my hair is actually rather less funky silver foxette, and rather more suburban headmistress, than I would hope for...

Judydreamsofhorses · 18/12/2017 18:56

SOTD is Mitsouko. kittens I saw Gabrielle was voted Grazia’s fragrance of the year - what’s that about? (I know, ad revenue.) I bet your hair looks amazing, btw.

MrsMacNally · 18/12/2017 19:08

Hello All. Rather embarrassingly I started the day by accidentally posting SotD on the wrong thread. (Fittingly, on a thread in AIBU about posting embarrassing things in the wrong place Blush.).

So, second time lucky, here we go:

It's day 18 and...Creamy Vanilla Crumble. This does what it says on the tin. I already have some of this from the Indiegogo release, so I get to pick a SotD myself whoop whoop! I went for a Lancome limited edition from 1998, Now or Never. It was, but they should bring it back. Sweet smoky bonfires. Fragrantica's listed notes include: tea, cedar, amber, rose, incense, moss, caraway, vetiver and vanilla.

MrsMacNally · 18/12/2017 19:09

EK - where did you get your Nuxe?- I need to pick some up for someone too.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 18/12/2017 19:19

Hello! If it's any consolation piam and kittens the sleek loveliness of my hairdressered 'do has disappeared today in favour of normal Crystal Tipps order. Got some Moroccan oil in the LF AC so will have to see if it helps. Fingers crossed for a miracle in a bottle...

SotD was ACAC Emeraude Agar. Back on form today - I really like this one.

MrsPestilence · 18/12/2017 19:52

Passage d'Enfer today.

My hair generally makes Madonna's in Desperately Seeking Susan, look rather tame and controlled.

explodingkittens · 18/12/2017 19:58

M&S, MrsM - £29 for 100ml, spending £30 gets you a dinky little candle and a 'gift bag', so I bought myself some lip balm Wink

I do wonder if maybe I'm missing out on some perfectly delightful scents by being a bit of a snob about the newest ones, the ones that have all the marketing budget behind them. But, then again, having sniffed, for example, both Gabrielle and Mon Guerlain recently...maybe not?

OP posts:
explodingkittens · 18/12/2017 20:01

I love Madonna's hair in DSS! I have a friend with that unruly curl/two-tone colour thing going on and I am always so envious of it.
