Amour Nocturne today. Sitting in my very chilly dining room trying to work; the heating's on and I'm bundled up in scarves and fleeces but my fingers are still icy!

Bluebell looks like you've got your work cut out for yourself there Wink. I think I'm going to have to 'invest' in that Perfume Society box...

Checking in with the hairy pets perfume club! It's a lovely day in the wild West, snow-free, but very bright and chilly, which may be the best of all worlds.

SoTD is a mash-up of Who Knew with a rolled on wriggle of Serpentine (I was refilling my Travalo and needed to check I'd got some in; it's an ancient one.) I remain to be convinced on the 4160s. There's something up front that doesn't gel for my nose, but Who Knew settles down politely. A little sad that I don't love it.

I hope the Imperial Tea pleases you, BluebellGal as it may have been my recommendation; the jasmine and tuberose have to fade but the base notes/drydown is lovely. The only tuberose that I choose to wear is Moondance (JHaG) and two samples have scratched the urge for over a year.

Hello lovely friendly perfumisters!
I am in love with Portrait of a Lady but a friend already wears it and it would feels wrong to muscle in on somebody's signature scent.
Can you please recommend some other options for me to try?
Thank you Flowers

Yes Cheap - it's a bit of a worry...Sniffing infrequently and cautiously Sad.

So, Day 11 of the 4160s sample calendar is.....Lemon Sherbet. This is a Mrs Gloss collaboration, and features bergamot, vanilla and musk.

I have been sniffing vintage Shalimar EdC alongside. Lemon Sherbet smells like a modern, youthful relative. Because of the creamy vanilla I'm never sure if Sherbet is quite the right description? More Lemon Fool to me? Rhubarb and Citrus Cologne is more sherberty, in that it has that effervescent acidity that threatens to take the skin of the roof of your mouth. But, whatever it's called it's very nice. And would also be an ideal gift for modern, youthful relatives...my niece will have some in her stocking.

Hello 43! I haven't sniffed PoaL but am sure other, more knowledgeable Perfumistas will be along shortly. Michael Edwards says you should try MMM Replica: Music Festival.

But would you get bored Janet?

Being bored of Coromandel is a sobering thought Confused

MrsM I'm neither modern nor youthful but Lemon Sherbet is going on The List. Sounds lovely. Shazam also on there so I think it might be worth waiting for another two...

Bluebell I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on with the PP Guerlains...

SotD was ACAC 7ml miniature of Mandarine Glaciale. I mostly got the Orangeiness but after reading fragrantica couldn't unsmell the hint of ginger. Was another ideal scent for a cold crisp day of hell with a school closure and open nursery but death trap car park which hadn't been dug out and gritted so ended up taking both boys to work in stupid plan which had to be abandoned after a couple of hours and much chasing around

43, if you like PoaL on a friend, it may still smell different on you. However, the genre is shorthand known as dark roses, and there are lots to try. In the UK high street, Tom Ford Noir de Noir is similar and the PP dupe is excellent and a lot less spendy to try. There was a Fragrantica or Bois des Jasmins post on the subject a week or 10 days ago, saying it's perfumista cat nip at the moment. There were lots of suggestions there to get you going.

Thanks Sock for reminding me of your imperial tea recommendation- the notes sound right up my street, worth a risk as I’m sure I’ll like it.

And thank you mrsreynolds for alerting me to Next Cashmere- that’s just my sort of scent (powdery floral musk) sounds a bit like Narcisco Rodriguez Poudre which I’ve been looking to replace as I’ve got nothing else like it. I do love a good musk - especially for daytime - my favourite used to be 212 Caroline Herrera. I’m a bit of a bargain hunter and enjoy discovering high street gems Xmas Grin

Happy to share Kittens i don’t think you’ll regret investing in that Perfume Society box!

I’m interested to see what I think of the ‘Guerlains’ too Cheap. I know they’re only PPs but I’m hoping they will help educate me to appreciate the classics. I do like Shalimar but I struggle with the other Guerlain beauties if I’m honest Confused I know I don’t HAVE to like them, but I want to!

I love POAL too 43andcounting - if you do too I say go for it, no one owns a signature scent. But there are so many beautiful perfumes out there to discover, see what notes are in it using fragrantica and explore from there.

Btw 43andcounting did you know POAL is Brooklyn Beckhams signature scent? Revealed by his mum in a recent interview. Unusual choice for a young lad

Have any of you tried this, it's supposed to be a bang on clone of Noir de Noir? Une Rose is amazing if you want a rose with oomph and Jo Malone (yes really) Velvet Rose and Oud is worth a sniff.

Possibly MrsM but in reality I'm too much of a slut to ever find out. Reckon Coromandel is the closest I'd ever get to monogamy though.

MrsMac, you asked about the perfume scene in Australia. I didn’t have time to explore it - I was too busy sight-seeing!

43, you have had some good suggestions for rose perfumes. Others you may like to sample are: Serge Lutens’ La Fille de Berlin (on my list to sample - it has amazing reviews); Tauer Incense Rose (he does other roses as well); 4160Tuesdays Raw Silk & Red Roses and also Rosa Ribes; Montale Intense Cafe (a rose, coffee and vanilla - very strong and gorgeous). Montale also do other roses, but I haven’t tested them. I have a small sample of Francis Kurkdjian’s Oud Satin Mood, which has a beautiful rose note (very expensive though).

I have been wearing Xerjoff 1861 Naxos. This is a lovely winter perfume - citrussy top notes which quickly disappear to reveal a rich honeyed tobacco with undertones. One tiny spray on each arm lasted 8-12 hrs on me. My 5mls sample is going to last ages!

Yesterdays ACD SotD Ambre Nue. Amber, green mandarin, and Nigritella Rubra orchid. Lots of resiny loveliness, didn't get any citrus but there was a floral background there as well. Lasted reasonably well as well.

Bluebell..
You're welcome! 😁
I can't stretch to narciso poudree atm (love it!!) so next cashmere is my go to
It's £8 a bottle and utterly utterly dreamy...my dh and ds2 sniff my neck all the time when I wear it 😁
I've got a bottle of valentino poudree which is gorgeous - and I think you would like it too- but it's not a winter scent imo
Sotd...next cashmere 👍

Hope it's OK to pick your brains - do any of you know any scents that contain wintergreen/antiseptic notes?

Report
MrsPestilence · 12/12/2017 08:44

Cardoon
Mugler's Aura has minty medicinal notes.
Tauer's Lonestar Memories is rather Karvolish
Heely's Esprit du Tigre smells rather like tiger balm
Eiderantler by January Scent Project has lavender, fir and balsam with gives a very green and slightly wintergreen note.

Oh that's great, thank you Mrs, It was Aura that set me off down this trail, I rather like it, find it very comforting, but I'm sure there's something even better out there so I'll investigate those mentioned

Good question Cardoon! Will be thinking if I can add to Pest's list today. (And, as a starter for ten, will just mention that Mitsouko has an antiseptic smell on me!).

Sounds exciting Calm! Hope you had a wonderful time.

Day 12 of the 4160 calendar is.....Black Velvet Cafe. Inky/school poster paint patchouli. Need to try layering this - might give it a whirl with the Dark Heart later...and wondering if, mixed with Shazam! I'd create Black Magic?
