SOTD is Tauer Lonestar Memories. I got a full bottle of this for my birthday last year, then got a migraine one day soon after when I was wearing it and have rarely touched it since. My migraines are specifically linked to my period or any sort of visual disturbance - flickering lights, strobing etc - so I don’t know why I took such a scunner at it. Anyway, it’s lovely.

MrsGruber · 28/01/2018 00:14

Oh lovely Judy. I'm eeking my sample out.

Going to bed tonight in today's new layering experiment: The Lion Cupboard x The Enchanted Forest (a 4160s limited edition deep mossy chypre). I like this - it kills the slighty high-pitched fizz in The Enchanted Forest, turning it instead into a clearer, richer and more deeply aromatic woody green. Have just tried it along side Magie Noire (current formula) as a reference deepish green - which is miles brighter, lighter and thinner smelling. The tobacco and vetiver in The Lion Cupboard give it an earthy, leaf litter on the forest floor kind of quality, with a fresh minty cold air swirling above this.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 28/01/2018 07:48

Lonestar Memories is my favourite Tauer (for now) I am on my second sample and will replace it soon.

Elise-yes, you got the pink minger in one. Think the 2000s equivalent of a Body Shop bath ball thingy filled with strawberry scented bubble bath. Or cherry. With a dollop of vanilla just in case it wasn't already sweet enough!

CountFosco · 28/01/2018 08:15

MrsGruber I love your description. Now I want to buy The Enchanted Forest (which I considered when it was in the sale at Christmastime but didn't) and The Lion Cupboard (which I didn't realise had vetiver in it which makes it climb my want list).

mrsreynolds · 28/01/2018 08:47

Must not buy a FB this month..
(Gnashes teeth)

mrsreynolds · 28/01/2018 09:18

.....

I've done a bad thing...

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 28/01/2018 09:27

Grin What've you bought?

PerfumeIsAMessage · 28/01/2018 09:29

Which one, which one????!!!!!

No such thing as a bad thing in.perfume buying terms. Unless it's Acqualina Pink Sugar?

Sotd, PP Tabu. Fabulous. Just fabulous. If this were in a brown box with a TF label, people would be reaching for their credit cards and proclaiming it their signature. It feels so modern, with the warm unisex spice. I can't really remember the original, though I remember coming back from Spain always with the soap, but man, this PP one is good anyway.

mintich · 28/01/2018 09:40

My friend wears pink sugar! But it smells great on her and somehow doesn't smell too sweet!

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/01/2018 09:44

I’ve never tried PP. Which ones are good (apart from Tabu!) and which to avoid?

mrsreynolds · 28/01/2018 09:59

Oh! PP tabu that good?
(Adds to list)
Sigh...ive bought a big bottle of sexiest scent
I couldn't help myself
Honest Guv
😁

PerfumeIsAMessage · 28/01/2018 11:11

PP hits for me:

Sahara Noir
Opium (as good as the real thing)
Rive Gauche (better than the new version of the real thing, more similar to the old version)
Prada Iris
Prada Iris Cedre
Sycomore
Paloma Picasso
JM Wood sage salt thingy
Bronze Goddess
Creed Virgin Island Water
Moss Breeches (lol, can't remember what it's a dupe of but it's lush)
Karma

I reach for these all the time.

Misses:
Chanel 19- would never have guessed that was what it was supposed to be
Escape- ditto
Aromatics Elixir-ditto
Anais Anais- ditto

Others I just haven't much liked but either haven't smelled the real thing or only fleetingly have been Mitsouko and Cinnabar.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 28/01/2018 11:13

IMO they do warm spice and simple florals very well. Less well aldehydes etc. Chypres hit and miss.

Motoko · 28/01/2018 12:04

Can you buy Pink Sugar over here now (UK)? I loved that scent when I used to make soaps and stuff, but you could only get the perfume, and the fragrance oils for adding to soaps etc, from the US.

In one of the swaps I took part in, one of the things I received was a hair conditioner with Pink Sugar scent, and I fell in love with it. I never got round to importing the fragrance oil as my usual US suppliers didn't stock it, and it wasn't worth just ordering one item from the ones that did.

It was when I was making the soaps that I realised just how much of a mark up there was on the premium brands of cosmetics, skincare, bath stuff and perfumes.
Also, a lot of the ingredients I used where easier to source and a hell of a lot cheaper in the US than over here. Surfactants were 10 or more times cheaper there, even with the added import costs it was cheaper to import them, but I could only use those for my own use, I had to use UK/EU suppliers for the things I made to sell, (and there weren't many and they just didn't have the range of stock that the big US suppliers like Brambleberry had) in order to comply with the EU Cosmetics Directive.

Anyway, I went off on a tangent there, but Pink Sugar is the only sickly sweet scent I like.

OCSockOrphanage · 28/01/2018 12:15

Someone above, it may have been Elise (hello and welcome), mentioned Dorissima, and as it was on top this morning, that's what I put on. It's quite heady and a bit sweet for me; I love darker roses but this seems to be mixed with carnations.

mrsreynolds · 28/01/2018 13:02

I've just ordered PP tabu piam
😁

JanetStWalker · 28/01/2018 13:08

mrsreynolds, I'm living vicariously through your spendy ways at the moment. Feeling very virtuous having sold 5 bottles this month and bought 0. Grin

Lazing about in Cuir Beluga today.

mrsreynolds · 28/01/2018 13:25

Oh Janet you are very good 😁

I'm slightly addicted to sexiest scent 😍 - I'm looking forward to trying tabu

MrsGruber · 28/01/2018 13:30

Vintage Tabu can be bought very cheaply if you have a bit of patience. If anyone spots any Habanita please shout!

You're done well Janet!

mrsreynolds · 28/01/2018 13:32

As for PP recommendations;

Opium - fabulous. Agree with piam - it's exactly the same

Cinnabar- I think this is decent. I like it.

Nivea - very good.

Obsession - ugh. No. Odd burnt smell to my nose.

Dior addict - nope. Nothing like original.

Sun moon stars - baffled by this one. Smells NOTHING like original. All I could smell was grapefruit (?)

mrsreynolds · 28/01/2018 14:00

I k ow some of you like doe in the snow...and I trust you guys far more than fragrantica soo.....thoughts?
Also..sunshine and pancakes?
I'm tempted....very tempted 😣😂😁

OCSockOrphanage · 28/01/2018 14:17

My PP hits
Sahara Noir
Iris Cedre
Noire des Noir
Sycomore
Verty Boham (but it fades quickly)
Roses 311
Lyrical

I also have quite a few of the oil roll ons, but don't reach for these as often though I got several of the Amouage dupes when I was trying to recall which scents I liked. In oil, they turn a bit sweet on my skin.

MrsGruber · 28/01/2018 15:11

MrsR - I'm the wrong person to ask about these two, although I do remember Doe in the Snow as a sweet but chilly light peach chypre.

I've got dark tastes and was drawn more to Paris 1948 which is a heavier, vintage-style peach chypre. (I often want to add a bit of even more moss. It layers well and has exceptional longevity but might be a bit marnitey?).

I wouldn't ever want to be without The Great Randello and Who Knew? They are both marvellous - Who Knew is a deep rose and green tea, with a warm woody/resinous base and is sweetened slightly by strawberries you wouldn't notice but somehow balance the whole thing.

mrsreynolds · 28/01/2018 15:24

They both sound lovely mrsg
I struggle with notes in 4610s
On paper I should love shazam! and EMS but...I just don't. They are ok...but only ok.
And I consider myself a bit of an oriental connosieur 😁

CountFosco · 28/01/2018 18:19

I like Doe in the Snow but generally don't like peach. Make of that what you will.

Also like sunshine and pancakes, lemon the soft warm sandalwood, honey and probably a touch of vanilla. Lovely.
