Welcome to the long-running perfume thread! All are welcome - drop in to chat about old loves or new discoveries. Ask a perfume question and someone here will know the answer.

Be warned though, we are a bunch of terrible enablers and you may wish to put your credit card in the freezer before entering Wink

Oh it will be so worth it when it's done! Word of advice...when the crown is fitted it will feel really tight/uncomfy at first

MrsMacNally · 15/01/2018 23:45

Don't worry - Velvet isn't a floral box by the look of it. 2-3 florals out of 9 in there?

MrsMacNally · 16/01/2018 00:22

Did someone here first mention the Feel Unique pick n mix? If so, thank you. 5 samples delivered for £3.95, and you get that back in voucher format for future purchases. Looks like there's a few ELD'O and Courreges to pick from at the moment. Good for skint perfumistas like me.

OCSockOrphanage · 16/01/2018 09:23

Are we sure it was just blue Monday yesterday? It feels like Blue Tuesday too, and the forecast for the next week is making me dread a deep navy blue seven days!

In a forlorn attempt at cheering up, SoTD is Dries van Noten. The clue is in the forename; I'm hoping!

BluebellGal · 16/01/2018 11:00

SOTD Prada infusions Amande

I enjoyed the PP Santal Blush yesterday but it had massive sillage so probably wasn’t the most appropriate choice for a day of interviewing potential new staff. At least I smelt good though...one lady had such bad garlic breath it filled the room - not a great impression to leave. More importantly though, she didn’t answer the questions very well, so garlic breath had no impact on outcome... but still! Who eats something’s really smelly right before an interview?!

Blue week you say sock? That sounds about right...time to book a holiday!

Judy good luck with the teeth next week- I’ve been wearing my mouth guard religiously thanks to you. It’s on its last legs so need to get a new one soon at great cost !

BluebellGal · 16/01/2018 11:02

mrsmacnally the feel unique pick and mix was me. Not done it myself yet. What did you get?

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 16/01/2018 11:46

I looked at the FeelUnique but couldn't find the 3.95 deal, I was on my phone though so possibly not on the mobile site? I don't need any more enabling though as I ordered the PP Gloria Blush and also want to try their Cinema...

I shouldn't really as my eBay sales are quiet - think everyone is in the same boat, Definitely a blue week here. MrsR have you injured your hand or is it aches and pains? I sent DH for cake too yesterday and I'm also feeling quite poorly (not too ill for carrot cake though) so please excuse any incomprehensibility (is that even a word?)

On that note Wink Judy do they give you any diazepam? They really should for that price Smile Glad you're getting there though.

Will be very interested to see if we recruit new cult members unearth any lurking Perfumistas with The Big Sniff. Could we include "would you buy a full bottle" or would that come up naturally do you think? The FB test is the million dollar question for me!

SOTD is Cardinal again as it feels slightly medicinal and I enjoyed it yesterday. I'm looking forward to my Gloria arriving, we definitely need something to look forward in January - it's fucking snowing here now! Hope everyone is slightly more cheerful!

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 16/01/2018 11:49

Oh I have NCed from hats and gloves prompted by the sight of a massive puddle of cat floof on our landing (exactly in the way for everyone trying to get to the bathroom Hmm) this morning Smile I swear she is growing another winter coat!

MrsMacNally · 16/01/2018 12:03

Go in on the samples tab Floof.

I got 4 x ELD'O (2mls I think) and the 5ml Gucci Bloom (little pressie for DD). Thought that was really good for sub-£4 delivered.

Glad its not just me who is finding eBay sales slow right now...

Motoko · 16/01/2018 12:24

I got my Catwalk Collection PS box today. I love the Benefit mascara. After trying loads of different brands that have never lived up to the marketing, this one actually makes my lashes look longer and thicker. Since they grew back after chemo, they've been really thin and straight, so I'm really pleased to have finally found a mascara that works for me.

The perfumes look good. SOTD is Agonist Dark Saphir. It's nice, but a little bit heavy for day wear I think. There's something in it that reminds me of perfumes like Opium and Poison, although it's not as heady as those.
Most of the perfumes are in the little vials, but the Valentino Donna is 8ml in a lovely little faceted glass bottle. I love the ones that come in dinky little bottles!

lasttimeround · 16/01/2018 14:34

I've just bought my velvet collection box all ready for the big sniff. Thank you for organising this bluebellgall xx

MrsMacNally · 16/01/2018 18:38

Pick'n' mix. Thank you for finding this Bluebell. You can filter on the left side if you only want to see the perfume choices.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 16/01/2018 19:34

Glad to hear progress is good Judy

Floofy snow???

That pick and mix looks really good- and you can do it every month. I'm looking for a catch but supposing that this is just good old fashioned promotional freebies designed to drum up sales, used in a win-win way where Feel Unique get a bit of money for them and may still drum up those sales and we get a very affordable way to get our fix broaden our scent horizons.

SotD is Knowing.

Judydreamsofhorses · 16/01/2018 19:46

SOTD is L’Air de Rien - perfect for vile January.

Ha, no diazepam at the very expenny dentist. On the referral form it asked if I needed sedated, and my dentist said no (good, because it would have cost even more) but did flag up that I was a nervous patient which is a bit mortifying. The specialist said I did really well last week, and I actually went the full two hours without asking for a break. The only point I panicked was when he started muttering “for goodness sake” but it turned out he was commenting on what I was watching on the roof TV - Jeremy Kyle, and I am not even ashamed.

I’ve not told anyone in real life, but DP has an interview tomorrow morning for a very suitable post. Send good thoughts at 10am...

Judydreamsofhorses · 16/01/2018 19:47

floofy, we have drifts of cat hair all over the wooden hall unless it’s swept about 30 times a day. I have a pin on one of my coats which is shaped like a cat head and says “cat hair, don’t care”. Truth.

MrsMacNally · 16/01/2018 20:11

Well done for getting through 2 hours Judy.

SotD was Oxford - not sure why this gets classified as an oriental? Smells to me like a coolish aromatic citrus with magic legs that go one forever. Really like this - but possibly not the right weather conditions today? Have also tried Sublime again tonight - opening seems a bit tamer more nuanced second time around - a good thing.

Woke up to find the cat snuggled up under the duvet next to me last night - it was very cold.

BluebellGal · 16/01/2018 20:53

My 4160s arrived, beautifully and sustainably packaged with handwritten note! Am now in Captured by Candlelight and my sweet tooth is being satisfied (trying gourmands in the evening instead of snacks- weighed in 4.5 lbs lighter this evening so must be working!). Loving Rome 1963 on first sniff. CbC reminds me of church as a child (the nice, warm modern Catholic Church- not the big old crafty one). I’m going to enjoy these Grin I didn’t get my 9ml Tokyo Blossom though - did they forget, or will they send separately I wonder.

Happy to be of enabling assistance with the Feel Unique pick n mix (at least it’s a cheap fix) and no worries about organising the Big Sniff - I really haven’t done much! Anybody want to volunteer to start the thread soon? I think we’re just drumming up interest to start with, explain what we’re doing and provide a link and code. I would do it but my grammar is terrible and I have a tendency to whittle on and on....

Floofy you’re so right - whether a perfume is full bottle worthy IS the ultimate perfumista’s test - especially if it queue jumps and goes straight to the top of our very long wish lists. Hopefully we will recruit more perfumistas into our lovely little cultcorner of mumsnet...

BluebellGal · 16/01/2018 20:56

Judy sending good vibes your way and hoping your DP gets the job tomorrow.

MrsMacNally · 16/01/2018 22:54

Just on the ultimate test, I think there is a level above FB! It's that group of things that are perfectly expressed - by this I mean a) they move you and b) you wouldn't change a thing about them; there aren't any moments where you wish note x or y were dialled up or down a bit, and they sing away on your skin for as long as you'd like them to. Not many of these...

Motoko · 17/01/2018 08:28

Judy sending good interview vibes to your DH and keeping my fingers crossed that the interviewers see what a good fit he will be for the job.

OCSockOrphanage · 17/01/2018 09:04

Positive vibes to MrJudy. Will think of him, and you, and hope that this is the one.

Emblem Elixir from TPS latest launches box is today's scent, so far. This is a really well-blended floral. I am not usually a very flowery gal but the woody spicy base notes keep it from being sickly. I would make a detour for a squirt of this. And I would buy a small bottle, maybe not 100ml. Shall have a look to see if there's a dupe in PP.

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 17/01/2018 09:19

Goodness Judy I have everything crossed for MrJudy, you guys really deserve a good start to 2018 Love the cat badge, DH previously suggested I change my MN name to PinkHairDontCare but CatHairDontCare is even better Grin

Oh god those FeelUnique samples - they have other stuff too. I absolutely cannot spend any more money, MrsMac do you mind me asking what area of eBay you sell in? Mine is clothes (usually vintage - my own stuff not a proper business) and it's dead. I've never known a month like it. Frustrating as there is a lot of stuff and perfume I want to buy!

Bluebell glad you like the 4160s, I love their packaging, like little sweets.

Yes, snow (well pathetic attempt anyway) here and it's freezing and I feel like shit and have gone back to bed Blush SOTD is Karma in an attempt to give some good luck vibes to MrJudy! My bedclothes smell lovely Smile

Puppylucky · 17/01/2018 11:46

Weighing in with more good wishes for Mr Judy and to say that I also think there is a level above FB desirability and that's consistent performance. Can't count the number of scents I have loved on first sniff that have turned on me on subsequent applications. Latest is PP Mitsouko which I raved about up thread but has now mutated into a sickly stale peach bomb on me - bah!

BluebellGal · 17/01/2018 12:43

SOTD Miller Harris Noix de Tubereuse.

Interesting chat about the test of a great perfume. Noix de Tubereuse was one I didn’t even like on first sniff, but now it’s a cut above a FB for me- it really is a perfect blend in my opinion and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I am pleased to have a 100ml bottle in my collection and every time I wear it, I enjoy the subtle wafts I get as move about and it brings joy to my day!

Motoko · 17/01/2018 13:03

Anyone else have trouble with the pick n mix on Feel Unique? The problem I'm having, is that I've picked my samples, and on the same page, my shopping bag shows there's something in it, but when I click on the bag, it says there are no items in my bag.
The FAQ says that it could be due to items going out of stock while browsing, but I find it hard to believe that all five of the samples have gone out of stock. It doesn't say that they have.

SOTD is Cosmopolitan. It's ok, but I can only smell sweet berries with a slight floral hint. No hint of the bergamot, cardamon, mandarin, or any of the other notes. It's not a scrubber, but is disappointing.
