Welcome to the long-running perfume thread! All are welcome - drop in to chat about old loves or new discoveries. Ask a perfume question and someone here will know the answer.

Be warned though, we are a bunch of terrible enablers and you may wish to put your credit card in the freezer before entering Wink

Oh floofy hope you feel better soon x

I can't remember allure tbh. I'm sure I've smelt it. Coromandel sounds Lovely! No 5 smells like cat pee to me 🤢

I'm waiting for my PP obsession to arrive 😁 interested to see if it's a good dupe

Well I shall pop some perfume on for my trip back to urgent care centre later...poss knowing or PP opium

Have a lovely day all x

MrsMacNally · 12/01/2018 09:12

That's a relief Cheap.

SotD is Firedance (Mastenbroek). Interesting! Has some similarities with the brighter/sharper/sourer notes in MG Fire's opening. When it warms up it's briefly smokey, and then a lovely balsamy wood note comes through and it gets a bit softer/mellower than Fire. This is very reminiscent of something I used to smell when growing up, perhaps with some myrrh in the mix? Some detective work on Fragrantica and Basenotes is required! Very impressed so far...

OCSockOrphanage · 12/01/2018 09:46

Well, my TPS box (first ever Halo) arrived this morning, so I ripped it open! Love the smelling strip book: so useful, I shall carry it around in my bag.

First I spritzed the MH's. On strips, I liked both, especially Lumiere Dorée. But on my wrists, I have the Shay and Blue Dandelion, and I am loving the zippy fresh greenness although it's hardly suited to a foggy frosty morning; predict this could require a stop in M&S for S/S. It's not a range I'm familiar with yet.

On the other wrist, spurred by the love here for the E Coudray's, is the Rose Tuberose. I don't plan to scrub this yet, but as it's got a minty note (which I am not keen on in Oxford either for the record) I can't see this becoming a favourite any time soon. Love roses, but tuberose is so not me.

I am looking forward to trying the chypres one evening soon, but the Mont Blanc or the Annick Goutal? Decisions, decisions, decisions.

mrsreynolds · 12/01/2018 09:49

I rather like mont blanc

CountFosco · 12/01/2018 10:36

We are so lurgy ridden here it's ridiculous. I've had 3 days off work this week with a horrible cold. We've had two sick children one at the beginning of the week and one at the end. Child no 3 is thankfully of robust stock and is healthy but is feeling neglected since she's not had a day at home with parents

CountFosco · 12/01/2018 10:40

So I am at home with the youngest watching Nanny McPhee. No perfume yet except Olbas Oil.

BluebellGal · 12/01/2018 11:19

Ooh I love that Perfume Society box Sock might be my favourite. The Dandelion Fig is zippy and fab - I have it on my desk and use it to wake me up on a Friday afternoon!

SOTD (only one spray required as it’s a real punchy!) I profumi del mastro profumaio- Fior di Panna

MrsMacNally · 12/01/2018 14:05

So now am getting musky wood, which I think is a big dose of Cashmeran. Guessing I may have encountered this in a fabric softener or shampoo as it is very evocative of something I've run into previously, but none of the perfumes with this listed as a major ingredient seem to be an obvious candidate...

JanetStWalker · 12/01/2018 16:12

Ambre Narguile today, glorious spiced apple shisha pipe smell. Just the thing to brighten a depressing January afternoon.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 12/01/2018 19:27

All well on the DC front today, thank goodness. Hope those with coughs colds and flus feel better soon - it really isn't fun is it...

Another day of rage at work but kept it calm and rewarded myself for not flying off on one by ordering the Bloom Violet box. Think I might pick a day of the week to be "box day" and so prolong the excitment/enjoyment.

SotD was Youth Dew (after all the chat). Spent a good while musing on how many folks know it as Youth Dyoo and how many as Youth Jew... a bit boring granted but I think might have helped me keep my cool earlier!!

Calmwhoknows · 12/01/2018 20:08

MrsM, Firedance sounds lovely. I haven’t tried any of the Mastenbroeks and really want to sample them, but probably definitely need to prioritise clothes buying over perfume! 😨

My SOTD was Opium Vapeurs, a lighter version of Opium with orange blossom. I enjoyed it very much but it lasted only about 4 hrs, so I topped it up with my beloved Black Opium. That, of course, is still going strong 😊

CountFosco · 12/01/2018 20:26

So how long do we give MNHQ to respond? @BluebellGal sent a message on the 9th, it's now the 12th.

OCSockOrphanage · 12/01/2018 20:28

Back to eat some words! Many hours later, the RoseTuberose has settled down to very subtle and quite delicious and the Fig Dandelion is also delightful. So I like one all the way through, and just the final drydown on the Coudray. That's good from one of the (to my mind) least promising smells.

To all with lurgies, feel better soon and come back fighting fit. I am just refusing to engage with anyone indoors.

OCSockOrphanage · 12/01/2018 20:34

MNHQ probably have an endless questionnaire to complete and thousands of competing issues to wade through. All those AIBU threads...

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/01/2018 20:37

SOTD is FM Noir Epices. So glad it is Friday! We have had M&S dine-in and I am now watching Corrie in my pyjamas. Will open the wine later.

BluebellGal · 12/01/2018 21:03

I’ve still not had a reply to my email from MumsnetHQ. Do you think I should start a AIBU thread to get them to reply or would that be unreasonable? Wink They clearly don’t know about our lovely little corner of Mumsnet. Even more reason to do The Big Sniff!

Judy that sounds like a perfect night in. I’m snuggled down with wine and rhubarb & custard (4160- not food)

Calm if you wait a week or so and if we do end up buying TPS Velvet box, that has a Mastenbroek in it (Firedance I think). Who cares about clothes if you smell amazing? Grin

BluebellGal · 12/01/2018 21:10

Sock Tuberose is difficult to love (especially on opening with most Tuberose Perfumes) but worth sticking with it for the dry down! Yep Dandelion Fig is so lovely, I haven’t tried it in summer but I think it would be amazing then. It is different to, but reminds me of Sisley’s Eau de Champagne. Shay and blue are reasonable at £55 for 100ml. I love wearing my Framboise Noire to bed!

MrsPestilence · 12/01/2018 21:41

I love tuberose. I have the lurgy and could not smell it Sad I have sweated as much in the last three days a the whole of last year Envy not envy.

MNHQ might not want to do a sticky, should we just go for it? Blue do they just give us a discount code? If we just skick it up here TPS will know how many people use it (we will have a clue about lurker numbers). You could just report one of your posts Grin

There is too much to read and respond to Confused.

BluebellGal · 13/01/2018 09:36

Agree with you Pest lets just go for it!

The Perfume Society 20% discount code for The Big Sniff is mumsnet You’re looking for the Velvet Collection (the one with Green and Blacks chocolate)

BluebellGal · 13/01/2018 09:39

Here is the link:

MrsMacNally · 13/01/2018 09:54

Thanks Blubell. Do you know if we can add other things to our order or if we need to order other things separately without the code?

BluebellGal · 13/01/2018 10:05

Yes, you should be able to add to the order so you only pay one postage cost, but the discount is just for the Velvet box.

BluebellGal · 13/01/2018 10:27

I’ve just ordered- I’m a VIP member and still got 20% off the Velvet box

I also purchased two sale boxes (Latest Launches and blossoms) as bday presents for friend and SIL, discount didn’t apply but they were very cheap anyway and make lovely presents

mrsreynolds · 13/01/2018 10:31

Very quick post as I'm supposes.to be doing other thibgs!!

PP order arrived - obsession pretty good addict is a no.no

4610 order arrived - omg! So I like shazam! unsurprisingly but they sent a freebie of sexiest scent on the planet ever. Wow. It's dried down to something truly beautiful

CountFosco · 13/01/2018 11:29

@MrsReynolds here, choose the size you want then scroll down to get the perfume you want.

Right, time to order perfume. Now, should I become a TPS VIP before I get the Mumsnet box???
