Welcome to the long-running perfume thread! All are welcome - drop in to chat about old loves or new discoveries. Ask a perfume question and someone here will know the answer.

Be warned though, we are a bunch of terrible enablers and you may wish to put your credit card in the freezer before entering Wink

Happy Saturday all! Am wearing Heeley Hippie Rose for the first time today and absolutely love it! An incensey rose - two of my favourite notes, but nothing musty about it - the rose is bright and clear especially in the top/mid notes. Not sure it's going to be terribly long-lasting though...

Will try and get myself into gear to order the TPS box today. Have spent quite a lot this week already though so probably shouldn't but will

MrsR - there is a discount code for full bottles lower down the thread...

MrsMacNally · 13/01/2018 13:27

SotD Shem el Nessim - reminds me slightly of Jicky today...

MrsPestilence · 13/01/2018 13:29

The bighint 4160 code ran out last week. Sad There is some Shazam! in the naughty cupboard. Half price scent of the week is back. Tokyo Spring Blossom and there is a promise of more stuff in the naughty cupboard at the end of this month.

mrsreynolds · 13/01/2018 13:42

Oooh I love it. Just looked at notes and it's vanilla again
Th says he likes it but not as much as addict
i think I like it more!!
Might be an FB :)
Thanks for the 4610 recommendation
I might go bankrupt but I will smell AMAZING
:)

MrsMacNally · 13/01/2018 13:43

Thanks Pest - glad somebody's paying attention...

MrsMacNally · 13/01/2018 13:46

MrsR - Just to note there are two strengths of TSS (one is parfum I think) - might be worth checking which your sample is?

mrsreynolds · 13/01/2018 13:52

I will thank you mrsm

BluebellGal · 13/01/2018 13:57

SOTD is Yardley English Rose layered with April Violets for a bit of spring cleaning today

mrsreynolds · 13/01/2018 14:18

I've ordered a 9ml and parfum extrait (?)
I will see get a 30ml of this though
It's beautiful

GlovesAndHatsAndFloofyCats · 13/01/2018 14:31

Ooh it's great when you love something enough to immediately buy a FB!

Count yes of course become a VIP

I really really can't spend any more perfume budget this month but will cheer you guys on, please could someone review the chocolate for me too? SmileI love orange chocolate and almonds but can't imagine what they taste like together!

SOTD is the comforting (and aptly named) Obsession and I have new bedding on the bed, a cat on the bed, a box of Lindt truffles and loads of shite TV to watch which is making me feel a bit less lurgy ridden. The house is filled with the sound of various people coughing and sniffling and grumpy teenagers being even more grumpy and sullen than usual Hope everyone is having a healthier and happier weekend!

GlovesAndHatsAndFloofyCats · 13/01/2018 14:34

I don't know why I always read my posts back and wince after I've posted them - I've made it sound like I'm watching a box of chocolate truffles HmmSmile

Motoko · 13/01/2018 14:43

I'd say it's worth getting the VIP sub as you only need to buy two more boxes for it to pay for itself. Any more boxes you get after that, you're saving £5 on.
Also, the subscription box has a good mix of samples, and a handy notebook, which I use to make notes of the perfumes as I try them.
That way I can remember which ones I loved, and which ones I hated!

In the notes, I write what the top, middle and base notes, are in the hopes that I can learn to pick them out, as well as first impressions, and whether I like/love/hate it.

mrsreynolds · 13/01/2018 15:09

I've asked for eau my soul as a freebie.

Hope you feel better soon x

Judydreamsofhorses · 13/01/2018 18:05

SOTD is MMM Fireplace. Off to order the Perfume Society box now.

kittens I have a full bottle of Hippie Rose, I really love it. It’s quite similar to JHAG Mad Madame, but a bit greener.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 13/01/2018 19:26

Evening All! Will get the TPS box ordered tonight or tomorrow. Need to plan a route march at some point so I can scoff the choc without feeling bad.

Just in case ahem I also subscribe and/or get any other boxes, what are the top recommendations? With yesterday's Violets box, The Big Sniff Box and maybe another one or two I could probably get half a year's worth of samples in one fell swoop. (Ahahahaha! Just need to ignore the wish list and all the other temptations that'll no doubt get dangled...)

SotD was AC Santal Carmin.

CountFosco · 13/01/2018 21:10

Ok, got the VIP membership and ordered The Velvet Box. You lot are terrible enablers.

Today I have two SOTD, AC Vetiver Fatal and 4160 Ealing Green, one on each wrist The only note they share is violet but they remind me of each other.

BluebellGal · 13/01/2018 22:40

Really enjoyed wearing the Yardley perfumes today, and they’re still offering a very pleasant skin scent....just goes to show you don’t have to spend a fortune to smell good! I know the Yardleys aren’t fashionable but I reckon they do soliflores really well. The English Rose is beautiful in its simplicity. And the April Violets is more wearable than other ‘Parma Violets’ perfumes.

Warning: now I’ve done my little homily on budget perfumes I’m about to encourage some enabling! Please look away now if January funds are running low!

Yes the TPS VIP sub may be worth it to access the £5 discount per box. I picked up two very decent boxes today (as presents) for a tenner each- I’ve had them both before. The Latest Launches is incredible value (it’s the on with two travel size Miller Harris and one E Coudray) also the beautiful blossoms which is pretty solid if you like florals (who doesn’t?).

The other TPS box I would recommend right now is the Prada Infusions miniatures (8ml each I think). These are great value at £30 for 6 (check out T K Maxx prices for Prada boxes for comparison - and they don’t offer this unique set).

If any fellas in your life enjoy fragrance, my DH has enjoyed the box which is currently £10 for VIPs (some of these are unisex). It makes a good gift. Omg I sound like I’m obsessed with TPS but really I’ve just made the most of my VIP sub. The box you get with membership was educational but my least favourite.

I also found out yesterday that Feel unique have a pick and mix sample service (x5) for £3.95 includes some decent brands (changes all the time, but there is currently 5ml of Gucci Bloom up for grabs).

BluebellGal · 13/01/2018 23:00

Quick question about 4160. I’m rather addicted to snuggling on the sofa of an evening with a glass of wine & a 4160 gourmand. I’ve got Silk lace and chocolate (thanks to Pest) and creamy vanilla crumble, rhubarb & custard (from the crowd funding). What other gourmands do 4160 do? I think they do them so well (must admit, they were ALL growers!)

MrsMacNally · 14/01/2018 00:28

Bluebell - you have to try The Great Randello (from memory, the smell of the cake trolley and cigar smoke in an Edwardian teahouse) and Centrepiece (again, from memory, the smell of Fortnum and Mason's ice cream parlour). I rate both very, very highly!

Am assuming you've already tried The Dark Heart? (LIsted as an oriental spicy by fragrantica but with all that rum, sugar, vanilla, coffee and citrus, I'm not so sure...Smile).

MrsMacNally · 14/01/2018 00:29

I think they do tobacco really well.

mrsreynolds · 14/01/2018 09:21

4610;
Was going to suggest dark heart to! - I wouldn't describe it as oriental either.
Mines almost all gone or id send it to you! It's not easiest scent to wear. Dh hates it 😁
I would also suggest sexiest scent on the planet ok you all know I'm in love with it BUT it starts off likecl lemon meringue pie and ends like vanilla pudding
Try those two bluebell

mrsreynolds · 14/01/2018 09:30

Actually shazam! Is very orangey and spicy.....

CountFosco · 14/01/2018 09:32

Sunshine and pancakes?

Continuing my side by side AC smelling by comparing their two tea scents. On one wrist Oolang Infini, on the other Philtre Ceylan. The mint in the Philtre Ceylon is dominating at the moment, although I'm getting Bergamot from both.

mrsreynolds · 14/01/2018 10:21

Sotd SCOTPEI. it’s a thing of beauty.
