...oh and the body shop smoky rose is lovely

MrsMacNally · 11/01/2018 00:07

Talking of vintage Avon MrsR, have you tried Persian Wood? Perhaps could stake a claim to be the best Avon oriental ever? Ps. liked the sound of Naughty Nights - think Jessica's people missed a trick there.

Hello Elphaba - Bluebell and MrsR have given you some great ideas there. Talking of The Perfume Society, the Prada Les Infusions set here looks interesting...

Puppylucky · 11/01/2018 03:16

To add to the rose recommendations (and share my excitement at another PP winner) I have just tried out PP's version of Gris Montaigne by Dior (it's part of the Private Collection I think, so the original is probably quite spendy).
Anyway the PP will do me, as it is so pretty, Unlike my Grande Dame Mitsouko experience yesterday, GM is a shy green rose. Fresh and light (Fragrantica descibe it as airy) so I smell "clean' (ifykwim) but with a lovely rosey undertone. Very pretty.

ElphabaTheGreen · 11/01/2018 05:07

Thank you all! Smile I'm dangerously sofa-bound for the next few weeks following an op, so I'm sure I can find time to order the suggested sample sets among other things

mrsreynolds · 11/01/2018 07:20

No mrsm...will check that out
No idea where naughty nights came from!!!

mrsreynolds · 11/01/2018 12:22

More PP opium for me today
Yum yum

GlovesAndHatsAndFloofyCats · 11/01/2018 12:58

Betty I have been wittering on extolling an Obsession purchase recently (but it was a vintage bottle). It is possibly the most comforting and warming scent, IMO. After Opium, of course. Oh and Shalimar

mrsreynolds · 11/01/2018 13:15

I have no idea what that error must say about my subconscious 🤔😂

mrsreynolds · 11/01/2018 13:19

Does no one else find shalimar a bit....lemony? Astringent? Sonethong it it catches the back of my throat amd not in a good way! Or is that just me?
I'm sure there is no lemon in it 🤔
I only like mitsouko from the house of guerlain
And I hate chanel!
Vintage obsession is indeed a thing of rare beauty

Puppylucky · 11/01/2018 13:47

Sigh - your comment about vintage Obession being a thing of beauty makes me nostalgic for the 24 year old me who received a bottle from her then boyfriend ( now husband) for our first Xmas together. We were both very poor and it was a big deal for him to spend that sort of money on me. I remember it as powdery and heady and impossibly grown up - not sure I actually liked it that much at the time - but oh the associated glamour!

mrsreynolds · 11/01/2018 13:59

Oh what a lovely memory 😁
I got my first bottle for my 18th b day...i remember the most handsome boy in 6th form stopping me in the corridor to ask me what perfume I was wearing...

mrsreynolds · 11/01/2018 16:47

4610 Tuesdays do individual tester samples!!
Just ordered shazam!
Yay!!

MrsMacNally · 11/01/2018 19:45

There's plenty of citrus in it MrsR - bergamot as well as lemon. If you don't like this, you could always buy vintage; often the volatile citrus top notes won't have lasted. Means you'll have to spray and ignore it for the first 5-10 mins though whilst you get past the spoilt opening, but the heart and base will be rich and fabulous Grin.

Speaking of big complex orientals, fans might want to try Zoologist's Civet. It's listed as an aromatic, it smells a lot like vintage Femme (technically a chypre), and is packed full of resins and balsams as well as vanilla, leather, musk and incense (and some moss, but no actual civet). That makes it sound really dark and sticky, but it's a bit lighter than that; plummy and rounded and warm and inviting and glowy, just like (old) Femme. Worth a try if you like Youth Dew - Bloom sell samples.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 11/01/2018 20:04

Mmmm I love a good whiff of bergamot!

Pants day at work rounded off with a visit to A & E with DS2 who picked a fight with a door frame and didn't win. I swear the boy thinks he's invincible...

SotD was Si.

ElphabaTheGreen · 11/01/2018 20:10

Beautiful Blossoms Taster Box ordered!

Almost splashed out on the Frocks and Hats one as well, if only to find out what Tart's Knicker Drawer smells like.

Glad I didn't make a gaffe admitting to Body Shop. My dear departed DM probably made the flames in the crematorium burn higher when she entered them drenched in Lush Tramp. I instructed the undertaker to empty the remaining (almost full) bottle over her before closing the lid.

MrsMacNally · 11/01/2018 20:19

Pants day at work . Cheap - I read that first as some sort of hideous fund raising-type special dress code Shock Shock. Tell us it wasn't...just so I can sleep tonight.

MrsMacNally · 11/01/2018 20:20

Hope DS is alright?

explodingkittens · 11/01/2018 21:00

Hello all. SOTD was La Fille de Berlin; one of the best roses imo.

I seem to have quite a few leaky bottles - noticed today that my Five O'Clock Gingembre has emptied and lots of my Dune sample seems to have leaked as well. Don't suppose anyone has some failsafe storage tips? I've just been keeping all my samples flat in a variety of boxes - do I need to start considering some sort of Heath Robinson style vertical storage contraption?

OP posts:
Judydreamsofhorses · 11/01/2018 21:05

SOTD is L’air de Rien again. Why is it that the first week back after the holidays feels like it lasts 100 years?

MrsMacNally · 11/01/2018 21:07

Leaked or evaporated EK?

BluebellGal · 11/01/2018 22:14

SOTD was Prada Infusions Amande which was lush! A good day today- client meeting and they are happy bunnies so a lot of hard work (and late nights) for myself and team has paid off Grin

Someone mentioned the Prada selection box - i have all the Infusions and love them all. Are they colognes? I find they have good sillage and longevity. I have had compliments when I wear them (not usual for me in my circles). My favourites are Cedre Iris, D’Iris (which I’ve been wearing for years), Amande and Ouilett (carnation).

The Big Sniff: still no word from mumsnetHQ

BluebellGal · 11/01/2018 22:22

Kittens my Shay and Blue has leaked recently too, I also need to sort out storage. Might use the Liberty AC box but it’s Christmassy and huge.

Elphaba yeay for your beautiful blossoms order. Please come back here and post your thoughts on it- we love to live vicariously through other people’s samples on this thread! What a send off for your DM with a proper bold perfume - love a bit of patchouli myself Flowers

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 12/01/2018 02:24

Oh *MrsM" that really made me chuckle! We had "dress up" day once which was supposed to be about wearing fancy clothes and an antidote to the alternative dress down days but quite a few people interpreted it as kids style dressing up. Never pants day though!

DS ok thanks. Will have a scar but nothing worse. I'd love to think he'll have emerged from this a bit wiser but suspect the reality is it'll only serve to make him braver/more boisterous in a well-nothing-really-bad's-happened sort of way...

GlovesAndHatsAndFloofyCats · 12/01/2018 08:03

Oh cheap glad he's ok, I have one a bit like that, it's a worry. I swear we have been to Minor Injuries more with him than all the others put together! Blush

Mrsreynolds do you dislike all Chanels? I do want to try more Exclusifs but of the "mainstream" ones I really only like 19 (so you can stop spluttering Judy Grin) and Allure. Don't you like Allure? I actually prefer the PP version though Blush

Elephaba the taster box is going to be your gateway perfume(s) it's too late to save yourself now! Wink Your mum sounds ace, definitely an Honorary Perfumista. Your post touched me as I was led to my perfume obsession habit by thinking about my DCs remembering me through perfume as I always wear "nighttime" perfume to tuck them in. Scent is so evocative isn't it. (I hope that doesn't come across as insensitive or excessively morbid).

Kind of on that note, I'm liking hearing everyones' Obsession memories. It's one of those that people remember isn't it. Pure 1990s in a bottle for me (although my 90s are kind of a blur for all sorts of illegal reasons Grin)

Hope everyone has survived the first week of school and work unscathed, our house is full of lurgy and I feel so poorly I haven't got any perfume on yet Shock Ugh.

Bettykins · 12/01/2018 08:36

Thanks to everyone for their help, lots of info and nice ideas on this thread.

I have ordered from Perfume Parlour, Samsara and Obsession, just to get some sort of idea of the smell of each, they are only cheap and supposedly smell just like the original. I tend to do this and if I like, I then buy the original.

Today I am wearing Mon Guerlain, its a sample I got with the Shalimar EDP that I received at Christmas. I like it but wouldnt buy it.

Another thing I noted, I have bottle of EDT Shalimar that I have had for about 6 years, it is very vanilla smelling but the new EDP I have is not as vanilla and a bit more spicy and doesnt seem to last as long to me, wonder why that is?
