I did - and I guess if you can get a sample set of them for 8E it makes sense postage-wise. Haven't read up on this collection yet.

My favourite ebay seller (of Maggie and Sid fame) is selling 10mls of Jardins George for a very reasonable sum. The tobacco/heliotrope/coffee heart of this is very unusual and really, really lovely. This series as a whole seems to get mixed reviews - interesting concept.

Judydreamsofhorses · 05/11/2017 01:01

So late with SOTD, but it was FM Noir Espices for a trip to the hairdresser. Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

CountFosco · 05/11/2017 08:48

SotD Lady Rose Lion (Monkey Unicorn). I'm beginning to realise I'm not much of a fan of peach. I can smell the hay quite strongly in this but not getting the blackcurrent or rose at all. Interesting the impact of skin chemistry.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 05/11/2017 09:52

SOTD is Shalimar. The sample I had was quite old so had lost the top notes. Treated myself to a new bottle recently as it was quite cheap in All Beauty and have just experienced the massive blast of citrus too notes!

It's settled down nicely now though. Grin

MrsMacNally · 05/11/2017 10:09

I've had a chance to try LRU recently thanks to Pest - that big peach note does make the start of it smell a lot like Paris 1948 on me. But the chypre notes come through more strongly on me than for Paris, which I often end up layering with mossier things.

The tobacco note of JdE George is so gorgeous that is SotD today. VC&A Cologne Noire is on my other wrist - a very pleasant Mark Buxton woody spicy cologne). DC are in rhubarb, and custard, respectively. (Both smell promising - and quite literal). Could have just about resorted to my own ankles a la Pest, but fellow members of my gym class may not have appreciated the resulting cacophony. And I need to spread out the magic Smile.

explodingkittens · 05/11/2017 11:28

After the Parisienne threads, am in a Breton top and Diorissimo. What a cliche Wink

Might try to sneak out to TK maxx a little later...just looking, mind!

CountFosco · 05/11/2017 11:46

Yes, LRLMU does smelk a lot like Paris 1948. Actually, I'll go and top up and spray P'48 in the crook of my arm so I can smell them side by side.

MrsPestilence · 05/11/2017 11:59

OK I have read the Parisian thread I am wearing a scarf, jewellery (just one piece) and red lipstick (or I was wearing red lipstick, every time I put on lipstick DH starts kissing me and ends up wearing more than me). I think the tactical fleece my be letting me down. Fag and attitude may redeem me.
SotD is Imaginary Author's Cape Heartache.Shredded fir tree with strawberries and cream.

I am always in a Breton top Grin My colleague said the other day if she closed her eyes and imagined me, she imagined stripes.

I now have to hang my perfumista head in shame, and get my coat. I tried Tart's Knicker Drawer this morning and ran screaming for the carbolic within 15 minutes. The pinkest of mingers on me. Sad I suppose I made the mistake of thinking a tart's knicker drawer would smell grown up and sophisticated but then logically, if stereotypically BlushI suppose I should have imagined something cheap smelling and strong. I guess I was confusing a TKD with a LGD (lady's glove drawer)

My underwhelm with 4160 continues I'm afraid. Sorry! I asked dd if she wanted it (as recipient of all my PMs and she said "no, it smells of sweet soap". I did quite like the first whoosh when I sprayed it, was quite sharp and aldehydic, but then the sherbet dab and violetty saccharine kicked in.

Am now in Opium (PP)

I may redeem myself in your eyes by saying I am considering the Pell kit linked to for dd's main Christmas present. If I am to grow a perfumista, I may as well do it right. She hasn't yet declared what she wants for her main gift, so that is on standby for now.

explodingkittens · 05/11/2017 14:43

PIAM I'm with you on TKD. I got it as the free sample with my 9mls of Dark Heart. I think I described it as 'fun' - having given it another quick squirt since then it's deffo a PM on me too. I don't think I do 'fun' perfumes Wink

Am currently in tk Maxx, being thoroughly disappointed by the selection. However, they do have CdG/Pharrell Girl for £12.99 if anyone fancies a bargain. Am tempted to get it for ds actually. The queue at the tills is utterly terrifying so am cowering in the cafe and debating whether to bother. But I do have a grey cashmere sweater in my sticky mitts for just £29.99 so I may well brave it...

MrsPestilence · 05/11/2017 15:38

I have 100ml of CdG/Pharrell Girl for £12.99 (all beauty, they seem to have sneaked the price up a few quid it the last couple of weeks). The TKMaxx bottles were only 10ml. If anyone would like a 5ml sample PM me (it is nice but will take me years to get through).

I too will confess to not being keen on the sweet / fun 4160s.
I have both the firesides (nice), Who Knew (love it), Killer Rose (good everyday rose, all sold out now), Shazam! (orange juice oriental), Up the Apples and Pears (love it) and Doe in the Snow (nice for a change). Quite like Ealing Green.

explodingkittens · 05/11/2017 15:45

Well it's all turned out a bit academic because I got to the till (after queuing for an age) to find out I'd left my bank card at home, and I couldn't remember the pin for my credit card.

So technically I've saved about £150 today, which is a result of sorts I suppose Blush

MrsMacNally · 05/11/2017 18:41

I got my 100ml from TK Maxx - bizarrely the same price as 10ml.

That's funny PiaM - with your vintage tastes I'd've guessed TKS might've been a hit. Don't give up 'til you've tried Rome 1963! (I might also be tempted to hypothesise they work best in a drizzly, cold UK environment). I like the darker and the gourmand ones, especially those featuring tobacco or woods. But they do fruit brilliantly, so Babylon Sunset is just a fresh, glorious explosion of happiness. (And this is from someone who generally has little appetite for fruity florals).

MrsMacNally · 05/11/2017 18:43

EK - hope they kept the cashmere sweater on one side for you? (And does that mean your TK Maxx has it's own cafe?).

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 05/11/2017 19:22

I can't get past the Peach in Paris 1948 so wouldn't think of it as a Chypre - that I Scent You a Day review of it didn't chime with me at all. So interesting how the same thing can be so different! I think Shazam might go in the wishlist for the new year.

After the hype I chucked a bottle of Girl into a perfume click order (a Christmas present of Insolence for a friend plus a couple of other Guerlains before they change bottles)

SotD was EL Private Collection. After an opening that reminded me a bit of Halls Soothers it settled into a really beautiful elegant scent. I loved it. DH said "meh" (or words to that effect). Humph.

mrsreynolds · 05/11/2017 19:27

My local t k Maxx is rubbish...like a jumble sale
Sotd was avon nightmusk again
Good job I don't live near any decent shops...i would be bankrupt by now!
That being said I've managed to spend £40 on shower gels from lush this month Blush

explodingkittens · 05/11/2017 20:11

My local TK Maxx is big (and yes, has a cafe!) but the perfume selection is pretty poor generally. I've got no chance to get back there for ages now so didn't bother asking if they'd put the sweater aside for me, gutted! Hey ho, my bank account is probably breathing a sigh of relief.

Has anyone got/sniffed Theo Fennell Scent? Turin gives it a rave review, the notes sound like something I could love, and there are some cheapo bottles on eBay. Not sure I want a FB unsniffed but could probably live with a 15ml...

MrsMacNally · 05/11/2017 20:20

EK - I'll tell you what TF Scent is like if you tell me what your TK Maxx cafe is like.

explodingkittens · 05/11/2017 20:33

Grin well the cafe is very like the store itself, ugly and uninspiring to look at but actually full of little gems if you put aside your preconceptions. I had a nicecupoftea and a surprisingly delicious pistachio pastry twisty thing. They also had a rather scrumptious-looking carrot cake on offer. I was impressed (and paid in cash, obviously!)

You do have to look out onto a sea of polyester, though.

MrsMacNally · 05/11/2017 20:44

So TF Scent is one of those perfumes that sometimes comes up in Fragrantica threads about the 5*s LT/TS got wrong. I don't think this is the case, but would definitely seek out the EDP rather than the EDT (thank you to whichever wise perfumista flagged this to me on one of the first of these threads).

The EDP is richer which balances out the skank better than the EDT, but it's still one of the most knickery perfumes I've ever smelt. In the first hour it is a really hard to wear sweaty cumin bomb (you'd even think twice about opening the door to the postman). But if you can hang on in there your patience will be rewarded with an unusually complex and luxurious oriental saffron/powdery rose. Apply sparsely and apply early! Pushes at the limits of taste - but all the more interesting for this. PM me with your address if you want me to send you a little bit to try.

MrsPestilence · 05/11/2017 21:00

MrsM that sounds sadly appealing. The FBs are cheaper than the 15ml Hmm It certainly has an interesting range of reviews on Fragrantica.

A cafe in TKMaxx, well I never. Kittens you car will thank you for not shopping successfully today.

£40 in Lush MrsR, all on shower gels?

Cheap you as well, I do hope you lot are thinking about buying some Christmas presents along with the glorious smellies.

mrsreynolds · 05/11/2017 21:04

Yes pest Blush
They've stopped doing the 100ml size 😡 so it's min £10 each bottle
AND I don't like the one I've just tried! 😔
I'm wearing avon soft musk for bed

MrsMacNally · 05/11/2017 21:07

It's a bit of a test I think. Smile Can defo stitch your perfumista stripes to your shoulder if you can wear this (even if only in the privacy of your own home). Not for the theatre or the office Grin. Can send you some if you'd like Pest?

PerfumeIsAMessage · 05/11/2017 21:30

I am recovering from TKD by basking in Lonestar Memories, a perfume so stunningly beautiful it makes one want to become a blogger.
The Now Smell This review of it is perfect.

MrsMacNally · 05/11/2017 22:33

Wow - wonder where that's all come from? Even parfum strength at a very reasonable price.
