A continuation of our Long running thread. Think this is just in time.

Lots of lovely things to smell.
Everyone is welcome.

Sillage not silage...more silage would be a very challenging note indeed Grin

Good quality fresh silage is actually lovely, a fresh green smell. The preservation of the grass is the same as cabbage in sauerkraut. Judging silage from the rank smell from the iper is like assuming wine vinegar is representative in taste of wine.

Yes Green my DH loves 1805 it smells really good on him (everything smells good on him whereas my skin chemistry interferes with lots of perfumes). To start with it was shocking but actually it’s really nice now- definitely one that grows on you! Thank you mrsm (I think) for the alternative recommendations

SOTD is another 4160 (getting a lot of love on this thread) the vanilla custard crumble which is a pleasant smoky vanilla

BluebellGal · 11/11/2017 11:14

^ just checked and yes it was mrsm who identified some alternatives. I think I’m also going to buy the Bloom masculine sample set

MrsMacNally · 11/11/2017 12:12

Green - I want to try Grey Flannel and Silences side by side. Was pleasantly surprised by how unisex GF was.

Bluebell - do report back on the Bloom samples.

Just wanted to check in with fellow calendar makers - how's it going? My DC were getting very envious of the project I was doing for best friend, so I including samples in their calendars too.

I've needed to scale up on samples, so took a punt on one of those mixed lots on eBay. Very pleasantly surprised. Even the celeb items are good (Truth or Dare & Lady Gaga). And there are four gems I'm keeping!

One if the other celeb ones is Adam Levine for Her. Nice saffron and v gentle oud. Was wondering if this was a triumph for the gas chromatography machine or for a perfumer, which made me realise one of our problems is attributing originality. How to know who deserves credit or if other people's work is being ripped off? Obviously lots of great things are legitimate riffs on other people's ideas so this all feels quite grey?

How many perfumes attached to names are copies to the extent that they've used GC to identify the components? In the grand scheme of things if you're making a perfume the £20-£30k it would cost to do the analysis isn't much (especially since it's probably less if you are routinely doing GC for QC). But I bet a lot of celebrities are influenced by perfumes they already know and love and probably accidentally make something that reminds us of something else.

SOTD is Chanel 19 for a trip to the cinema to see Murder on the Orient Express, which I loved.

That tooth I had the RCT on still hurts - did this happen to anyone else or am I on my way to losing the tooth? The dentist found all the canals and said she was pleased with it when she looked at the x-ray. I rang in on Thursday and she said it had been very inflamed and could take a few weeks to settle.

MrsMacNally · 11/11/2017 20:19

Had sort of imagined they might pop in once to sniff A and B, (taken from the also rans/near miss shelf), and their name gets slapped on the one they like best? Is that too cynical?

Anyone know what's Scent of the Week at 4160s?

OCSockOrphanage · 11/11/2017 20:20

SoTD is 11 Semma, from Odin. I bought a decant yonks ago and, as it's a hefty evening spicy chypre, it doesn't come out all the time, but it is mind-blowingly lovely when I wear it. It's so warm and huggable, and it lasts well. I have Another Kiss by the Fireside on my elbows, and I smell edible.

CountFosco · 11/11/2017 20:22

boldly Dryad is lovely, a really nice green perfume that I'd say is perfect for work. So interesting the effect it has had on DH though, I'm definitely going to ask for it for Christmas or my birthday from him. It appears to be like catnip for him (TMI!).

CountFosco · 11/11/2017 20:26

Judy I've had 2 RCT and they took months years to settle. I don't believe dentists about pain anymore, I had wisdom teeth removed years ago and it took ages to get the feeling back in my tongue, the dentist said a week!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 11/11/2017 21:22

I may just have ordered a sample of Dryad...

MrsMacNally · 11/11/2017 21:37

I like 11 Semma OC - got it from a nose diagnostic.

JanetStWalker · 12/11/2017 00:25

No new 4160 SotW this week, think there's a bit if a backlog after last week's insane 3 for 2 shenanigans, so another week of Tart's Knickers.

CountFosco · 12/11/2017 09:47

I may just have ordered a sample of Dryad...

I hope it lives up to your expectations. I've just put on Salome. One of the reviews on fragrantica says it smells like a barnyard whorehouse (I have no experience of whorehouses but can definitely smell barnyard). DH says it makes him think of bearded ladies, I didn't want to ask why! Rather glad I'm wearing this today and not at work. Woo!

MrsPestilence · 12/11/2017 11:18

SotD is Scent, I am going hospital visiting Grin Can I have stripes please MrsM?

OP posts:
OCSockOrphanage · 12/11/2017 12:33

Snap, MrsM. I loved it and got a 10ml decant from the Perfumed Court when the sample ran out. Down to about the last third, and wondering about getting another; it's either that or ration it even more harshly. Didn't investigate the range further as from the website it looks as if it's aimed more at men.

IMO, it could be worn by a wealthy Lebanese businessman.

OCSockOrphanage · 12/11/2017 12:42

Scent of Sunday is Chypre 21. This was initially my favourite of the Heeley's but I seem to have gone off the opening wallop of saffron and am thinking that this smells better outdoors, so I may scrub it if it doesn't settle down quickly. It is strong stuff.

explodingkittens · 12/11/2017 13:00

Crikey Pest Grin

SOTD is Midnight in the Palace Garden. I get a very strong indolic jasmine note at the start, which I don't like. It's proper stinky nappy bags on me. But that does disappear quickly leaving citrus and woods. It's...nice. And that's it. I will certainly wear it again but I can't see what all the fuss is about really.

Am fully prepared to have my Perfumista badge revoked for this sacrilege Grin. I truly wish I loved 4160s but, with the exception of Dark Heart of Old Havana and perhaps Shazam!, I keep being just a wee bit disappointed. Perhaps I'm just picking the wrong ones though?

MrsMacNally · 12/11/2017 13:13

Pest - think you get braid and brass buttons too and possibly thrown out today on medical grounds?

BluebellGal · 12/11/2017 15:02

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend

SOTD is 4160 Rhubarb & Custard (again) it’s a lot of fun and inducing happy Sunday vibes Smile

boldlygoingsomewhere · 12/11/2017 17:20

Can anyone recommend a rose perfume for me to try? I wasn't sure it suited me in the past but I'd like to try again.

CountFosco · 12/11/2017 17:28

Boldly Tobacco Rose from Papillon is lovely, think Teta thought it was her favourite Papillon. 4160T does a Rose called 'Who Knew?' thst was designed as a rose for people who don't like Rose.

explodingkittens · 12/11/2017 18:04

Tauer's Une Rose Chypree is probably my favourite rose. It's spicy and complex and gorgeous.

explodingkittens · 12/11/2017 18:23

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/11/2017 18:51

My favourite 4160 Tuesdays are:

Goodbye Piccadilly
Maxed Out
Inevitable Crimes of Passion
What I Did on My Holidays

I also like, but don't love:

Rome 1963
Sexiest Scent
London 1969
Up the Apples and Pears (which seems to smell more pickled oniony on me than before)
Parallel
Midnight in the Palace Garden

Can't stand:

Black Velvet Cafe
Dark Heart of Old Havana
Paradox
