do we really like ankle boots with dresses?

I've got thin ankles and slim calves. I think I look a bit ridiculous with ankle boots and a dress. But it's the 'thing' isn't it? I've recently ordered some ankle boots with a 'sock' a slightly higher ankle (Dune) to see if it helps.
But a few years ago, no one would have dreamed of wearing ankle boots with dresses, only trousers.

Am I alone in this?

I've worn ankle boots with dresses for a good 10+ years now. I don't care about following styles and trends although a few years back I did get the mick taken out of me by some girls in a nightclub toilet. (Didn't care still carried on wearing them)
I have extremely thin bony ankles so wearing stilettos with a dress just doesn't cut it for me.
I also have very long slim legs so wearing a short dress with ankles and feet bared makes me feel like I should be on a catwalk. A look that I just don't think looks nice on me.
I have lots of different styles of boots and I wear them with skirts, shorts and even knee length dresses. I have no problem with it I think it looks fine and breaks up the look sometimes. Can be made to look casual or dressy depending what style you are going for.

I've been wearing ankle boots with dresses since the 80's - starting with a Madonna in desperately seeking Susan style in 83', some Victorian style lace up boots with ra-ra skirts, pixie boots and then pencil dresses later in the decade, a brief goth phase with black DM's and a shredded black dress late 80's ish, then bodycon style mini dresses with opaque tights and heeled ankle boots in the early 90's...moved on to a slouchier boot with woollen dresses towards the millennium, then in recent years the classic Ash Jalouse type of boot etc etc (& also love hi-top trainers with casual/summer dresses). Not sure what all that says about my sense of style or lack of but it definitely demonstrates it's nothing new!

Everyone is different - worth looking on Pinterest for ideas of what would work for you (& here's a photo of long gone 80's ankle boot with dresses fashion - I've just remembered wearing the fishnets with ankle boots and lacy layered skirts look to a teenage disco, classy!).

Interesting that the debate hasn't moved on in the year since this thread was started . Grin Although I did hear murmurings about knee boots being back this year? I'm hoping it's true - they suit me better.

BinkyKoots · 05/09/2018 21:20

I bought a pair of knee boots the other week Childrenofthesun thinking they'd be more flattering.
I have concluded I look like the Principle Boy in a panto Hmm
Uggs for me!

Childrenofthesun · 05/09/2018 21:41

Oh dear, not the look I was thinking of!

ChishandFips33 · 05/09/2018 22:28

If ankle boots and tights/dresses are a big fat no, then what shoes do you wear?

Genuine question as other than flat brogues, I don't have any shoes! (Need a slight heel and can't keep court shoes on. Would also need different styles as I wear both smart and casual for work)

chipsandgin · 05/09/2018 23:59

Nooooo - caught out by a zombie thread, gah! (although clearly irrelevant, as all I did was demonstrate that my style has barely changed since the 80's...so what's another year eh!).

Still gah though, usually spot a resurrected zombie Blush

Applepudding2018 · 08/09/2018 21:32

Just about to post on this zombie thread that I'd been wearing this combination since the 1980's - and a quick look down the thread shoes that I already posted this last October!!!!

Saw something on this the other day but can't remember where. The general advice was ankle boots with knee-length & above, and trainers or slouchy boots with midis.

RumCustard · 09/09/2018 07:37

No. It looks like a child dressing up in her mother's shoes.

VickieCherry · 09/09/2018 07:39

Love it. And knee high boots are so bloody heavy! I wore mine for a few days when it snowed last winter, and my god they're hard work compared to ankle boots.

namastayinbed · 09/09/2018 07:40

It's pretty much all I wear in Autumn but with tights - all the mail outs I'm getting show models with bare legs and it makes me feel chilly!

TheRealHousewife · 09/09/2018 07:53

Does anyone have pics that show the right and wrong way to wear this look?

I sometimes wear ankle boots with dresses but admit I feel I might look on the dumpy side. Blush

myusernamewastakenbyme · 09/09/2018 07:55

I prefer ankle boots and dresses to the hideous fashion of people tucking their skinny jeans into high boots...that looks awful...really dated.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 09/09/2018 14:16

Haven’t RTFT so it may well have moved on by now...

I like the look a lot but it has to be done right. Sock boots might work well if you have very slim ankles. Good luck!

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 09/09/2018 14:17

Oh it’s a zombie.

Never mind, I’m sure lots of people are asking the question this season.
