Whiffy armpit update

JessiCake · 15/09/2017 19:31

A brief new thread, just so anybody interested (I still can't believe how many of you were nice enough to post with advice!!) doesn't have to trawl through.

Staggeringly, it seems as if a mere switch to SOAP has pretty much done the trick Shock

I've not even broken out the new deodorant yet because I've washed with soap these past two mornings and even with my old deodorant I am fresher at 7.30pm than I was at 9.30am that morning I posted.

Only change - soap instead of shower gel.

I can't believe I have let my lovely tops get whiffy all these years when it was a simple a solution as that!!!

I will def try the new deodorants (Sure is my first one to try out) as the problem isn't TOTALLY solved (about 80% improved, though) and I've had relatively non-busy/running aorund days, so I would want a strong, reliable deodorant for a busy or warm day.

But really, for any other sufferers, I had to start a new thread just to say SOAP SOAP SOAP.

What the hell is (or is not) IN shower gel, that it does such a crap job?

Massive thanks again to everyone.

Yours un-whiffily Grin
Jessicake

I mentioned on the last thread too, but there's nothing better than lathery soap and exfoliation gloves. I go for it scrubbing everywhere. In the old days before gloves and loofahs my mum used to use old net curtains. Discussing this with a Nigerian friend at university we found that her mum did the same thing too with the net curtain scrub!

Well this is a revelation! I have some Lush Honey soap. Would that be too moisturising?

ASqueaking Which Lush Soap did you use on the spots please?

JDSTER · 22/09/2017 14:28

Hello Enid I found that good old fashioned soap works best, without any additions. Even using clear, fruity soaps wasn't enough to rid DS of sweaty smells, and he has only just started getting whiffy of armpit!

Ollivander84 · 22/09/2017 21:49

I've just ordered some shea moisture black soap. Been wanting to try it anyway! They have some nice ones

slippermaiden · 22/09/2017 22:08

I've been reading this thread with interest as I've been using soap for showers recently (shower gel for leg shaving!), and was seeing it from an environmental angle, less packaging. I like a blue soap from Lush that smells like the sea and a purple soap from Waitrose Smile

Skittlesss · 23/09/2017 11:58

I bought some pears soap yesterday and now I smell lovely. I feel a lot cleaner and fresher than i normally do after a shower. Feels weird that a 55p bar of soap leaves me cleaner than my Molton Brown gel. Very happy though as I'm always paranoid that I might smell.

expatinscotland · 23/09/2017 12:20

Dettol sensitive soap for truly whiffy perimenopausal pits. Haven't used gel in years, it's far too expensive. 4 pack of Dove for £1.69 and lasts a family of 4 a month. DD and I love to buy lovely locally made soaps wherever we go.

expatinscotland · 23/09/2017 12:22

'ASqueaking Which Lush Soap did you use on the spots please?'

DD2 uses Pears and an IKEA flanne on her face and witch hazel as a toner.

Washing powder - I buy a large 3kg box from Sainsbury's on line which I get delivered. Lasts a long time and smells lovely and natural! Good value too.
Because it is in a box its much more environmentally friendly.

Beautifullymixed · 23/09/2017 15:00

I love this thread!
I always stock my Amazon basket with soap throughout the month, and get excited on payday. Smile

I tend to stick to imperial leather, dettol, black African soap or nivea bar soap.
I use my shower puff and have a good scrub all over. Then a rough dry with my towel, and I'm left with ultra soft skin.
Yes, dry skin on arms does sometimes rub off, especially after my holiday this year - it just left me even softer.

My skin feels super clean, and although we are prone to eczema, I find regular use with soap actually improves my skin. I definitely moisturise afterwards though.
I use soap on my genital area, always have done, no problems at all.
Feet are fresher too.

I feel soap has saved my embarrassment during perimenapausal flushes, as harsh deodorants left me so sore. I just feel cleaner and fresher, and my teenage ds's love a good soap scrub too.

I will never rely on body washes or washing gel/tabs anymore. Good old fashioned powder and soap. Cheaper and more effective!

EnidButton · 23/09/2017 17:13

JD Smile Thank you! Do you mean like Pears soap? I've always liked having a sniff of all the different soaps but haven't bought any for years.

EnidButton · 23/09/2017 18:00

I've bought some Pears soap. It reminds me of my Nanna. Smile Will be having a shower in a bit so will report back.

EnidButton · 23/09/2017 18:45

When I said Pears reminded me of my Nan I just meant the look of it. Have opened it now and hate the smell! 🤢

donajimena · 23/09/2017 19:08

Seeing as this thread is still active I'll just update that on my new soap regime I have come back from a 2hr workout and all I can smell under my pits is a pleasant deodorant. I'm amazed and my mum is going to use soap now too. Time to buy some shares in soapy companies!

JDSTER · 23/09/2017 19:24

My grandmother used pears soap too Enid. The body shop fruity soaps are clear like pears, yes but are pink grapefruit etc. Anyway, they aren't enough to get rid of sweaty smell from DS. Cidal has been good and will try dettol too if I see some

Hunkle · 23/09/2017 19:35

EnidButton It will smell strong as its been packaged, I bet it smells lovely once you have rinsed it off.

Pinkpeppermintteaforme · 23/09/2017 19:41

I adore soap, always have done.
Neste Dante is my favorite - lasts ages.
Black African soap is fabulous for smelly feet i hot weather.
There is nothing that makes me feel so clean and relaxed as a goid scrub with nice soap.
Baffled by all the shower every 3 days or your skin falls off threads Confused
I shower in the morning and bathe every night -perfect soft skin!

woodhill · 23/09/2017 20:32

I have blue Pears soap. It's good

EnidButton · 23/09/2017 20:38

Hunkle It'd be a shame to waste it so I'll try that. DH said he'll use it if I'm still not keen.

JD I love the clear glycerin soaps. Not sure why! Haven't use any for years, just like the look of them. The Dettol one sounds like a good one.

I popped back out and bought two more soaps to try. One called Glycerose and a coconut one. Both smell really good. The rose one is like Turkish delight and is a lovely stamped clear yellow soap. The coconut one is all natural ingredients and a pale brown colour. I've sliced a bit of that one off and I'm going in the shower now.

This one www.droyt.com/shop/glycerin-soaps/glycerose-125g/
And this one www.faithinnature.co.uk/products/coconut-soap/finsoapcoco1.aspx?productid=finsoapcoco1

EnidButton · 23/09/2017 21:25

At the risk of going on about it, Blush, I've had a shower using the coconut one and so far I like it.

Skin doesn't feel any drier than usual (usually use Dove shower cream) and I feel very very clean. Much cleaner than shower gel feels. No skin tightness It was squeaky whilst in the shower, which I've always been taught isn't a good thing, but it was a lot easier to dry off which is a brilliant bonus for anyone with mobility or fatigue issues.

Smelt lovely. I've moisturised my legs and tops of arms but nowhere else so we'll see. Good so far.

HateSummer · 23/09/2017 21:32

I usually just moisturise my arms and legs and that's it.

I think another problem we have in some parts of the U.K. Particularly the south is that the water is really soft. Soft water will not remove moisturising soaps and gels efficiently which leaves the residue on the skin.
I noticed the difference when I used dove soap abroad and it came away from my skin immediately. This doesn't happen here which is why dove soap isn't very good. I'm using dove deodorant atm though and it's very good.

EnidButton · 24/09/2017 00:52

My water is very soft. I feel like my skin and hair are better in hard water areas so that's a good point about residue.

mintmagnummm · 24/09/2017 07:51

I bought the organic lavender soap from boots and I absolutely love it! I use ginger soaper duper shower gel (from Tesco, all natural and lovely!) on rest of body then the soap under pits. Also use the soap to shave Grin

chocolatespiders · 24/09/2017 09:57

I like the sound of the lavender soap..
