Whiffy armpit update

A brief new thread, just so anybody interested (I still can't believe how many of you were nice enough to post with advice!!) doesn't have to trawl through.

Staggeringly, it seems as if a mere switch to SOAP has pretty much done the trick Shock

I've not even broken out the new deodorant yet because I've washed with soap these past two mornings and even with my old deodorant I am fresher at 7.30pm than I was at 9.30am that morning I posted.

Only change - soap instead of shower gel.

I can't believe I have let my lovely tops get whiffy all these years when it was a simple a solution as that!!!

I will def try the new deodorants (Sure is my first one to try out) as the problem isn't TOTALLY solved (about 80% improved, though) and I've had relatively non-busy/running aorund days, so I would want a strong, reliable deodorant for a busy or warm day.

But really, for any other sufferers, I had to start a new thread just to say SOAP SOAP SOAP.

What the hell is (or is not) IN shower gel, that it does such a crap job?

Massive thanks again to everyone.

Yours un-whiffily Grin
Jessicake

fuzzy, I imagine it's whatever you prefer.

I just kind of lather soap in my hands and rub it onto body bits with hands.

I imagine a flannel/puff would be nice too but never ever tried it.

FiveBoys

Oh god I am totally away to buy that soap.

Other soaps I love; Coal tar soap.

Might just go and buy loads of soap now. I'm 35 weeks pregnant now and my sense of smell is haywire; I'm able to smell all my odours really strongly even though I wash every day so this thread may have just saved me from being sickened by my own nasal oversensitivity Grin

Find the Mitchum solid cream deodorant really good

Like shower gel but will use soap as well in shower

FiveBoys · 16/09/2017 19:39

Legend, I just realised someone else referred to it as Black Soap earlier on in the thread. Its fabulous stuff.

And I love Coal Tar. Its what we used as children many many moons ago.

35 weeks pregnant? How wonderful is that Smile

Where do you all keep your wet soap?

I gave up using it due to ending up with a slippy slimy lump on the sink side.

FiveBoys · 16/09/2017 19:49

I rinse my soap off after Ive used it and give it a couple of shakes to dry it a bit before putting it on the soap dish.

Haffiana · 16/09/2017 20:02

Since this is the S&B board, otherwise known as the Shoppers Enabling board Grin, then you all need to know that the poshest, nicest, mildest soaps are handmade soaps. Made in small batches by a method known as 'cold process' they retain all the naturally occurring glycerin that is removed from commercial bar soaps. This makes them exceptionally mild on the skin. It also makes them expensive, but they are worth it.

If you are really interested you can make your own from olive and coconut oils (in fact any oils you wish but coconut is needed to make them lather) - there are plenty of recipes on the internet. Use very accurate scales (test them first) and give the soaps sufficient time to dry out after making, as this makes them milder.

Well worth a try and could sort your Christmas pressies out at the same time Smile

Very interesting. Soap gets a bit manky. Is the same true for liquid soap?

I always use the smaller bar or pot of soap I can buy. Ive never had manky soap.

Another soap I use is made Olive Oil soap made by my cousin in Lebanon after the olives have been harvested. But you can get commercially made pure olive oil soaps that are just as good and perhaps even better.

I quite like TK maxx for soap choices

SpoonfulOfJam · 16/09/2017 20:15

Do you share soap with family members or have a bar to yourself?

SpoonfulOfJam · 16/09/2017 20:17

DH used soap when I first met him, but I convinced him that shower gel and a puff were the only way. I suspect he would benefit from moving back to soap. I'm curious to see how I get on with soap.

FiveBoys · 16/09/2017 20:20

I have my own soap in my own bathroom and its only me who uses it but Id have no objection to sharing soap and not just because of other things like bodily fluids I'd have shared with my husband for eg.

woodhill · 16/09/2017 20:32

I like l'ocitaine soaps

FiveBoys · 16/09/2017 20:37

L'ocitaine is lovely.

MorrisZapp · 16/09/2017 20:44

Does anybody remember the ads for Lifebuoy soap? I'm certain it was promoted as having long lasting deodorant properties. There was another one, with green stripes, is that the Cidal one?

FiveBoys · 16/09/2017 20:47

Was the green striped one not called Fresh?

TheHamptons · 16/09/2017 20:55

I love the lush sultana of soap.

Don't like how the shop smells but that soap is gorgeous. Moisturising and yet I always feel uber clean

DarkDarkNight · 16/09/2017 21:27

I just came on to ask about L'occitane. The milk soap doesn't leave my skin feeling tight, it has shea butter and milk, would this leave a residue so not work?

Is liquid soap different from shower gel?

LazySusan11 · 17/09/2017 07:20

I have a bar of this as well Dark id be interested to know too.

donajimena · 17/09/2017 07:27

I can't wait for shops to open now!

Trollspoopglitter · 17/09/2017 07:35

Lush do a great lavender soap.

Also outback mate (blue) which smells a bit like the ocean.

LoniceraJaponica · 17/09/2017 07:45

Curly I use Dr Organic soap from Holland and Barrett. It isn't drying at all.

I am replacing all liquid soaps in the house with bars of soap for environmental reasons, but have always preferred it to shower gel.

My washbasins aren't designed to hold bars of soap so I had to buy some soap dishes. They also prevent them from going manky.

What does black African soap smell like?

Increasinglymiddleaged · 17/09/2017 07:53

I definitely think tops need washing at 60 every so often also..... as 40 doesn't kill bacteria so if they smell it doesn't help. Not every wash, but it kinda builds up I think.
