Whiffy armpit update

JessiCake · 15/09/2017 19:31

A brief new thread, just so anybody interested (I still can't believe how many of you were nice enough to post with advice!!) doesn't have to trawl through.

Staggeringly, it seems as if a mere switch to SOAP has pretty much done the trick Shock

I've not even broken out the new deodorant yet because I've washed with soap these past two mornings and even with my old deodorant I am fresher at 7.30pm than I was at 9.30am that morning I posted.

Only change - soap instead of shower gel.

I can't believe I have let my lovely tops get whiffy all these years when it was a simple a solution as that!!!

I will def try the new deodorants (Sure is my first one to try out) as the problem isn't TOTALLY solved (about 80% improved, though) and I've had relatively non-busy/running aorund days, so I would want a strong, reliable deodorant for a busy or warm day.

But really, for any other sufferers, I had to start a new thread just to say SOAP SOAP SOAP.

What the hell is (or is not) IN shower gel, that it does such a crap job?

Massive thanks again to everyone.

Yours un-whiffily Grin
Jessicake

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread.
I can't use normal deodorants due to horrible eczema flare ups. Im using Lush deodorant bars - their not bad but not as effective as the traditional stuff. I'm going to try soap and see if that makes a difference.

Crazy8 · 18/09/2017 13:01

Thanks to this thread I have now bought 6 bars of soap today. It cost of all of £2.50. I haven't used pears since I was around 10/12 years old. I've just had a shower and oh my goodness do I smell lovely. Normally after a shower my armpits feel a bit weird and itchy when I put antiperspirant on but I feel so squeaky clean today.

Crazy8 · 18/09/2017 13:03

I'm off to search for soap dishes now Grin

Crazy8 · 18/09/2017 13:06

Another bonus is that when I next do a trip on a budget airline there won't be any issues with buying small shower gels for ridiculous prices.

TheMightyMing · 18/09/2017 13:25

We got a suction cup metal one yesterday at b and m bargains for three quid! It's up and in use now ! Off to Tesco later for proper washing powder , doing to ditch the liquid tabs, any powder recommendations?

TheMightyMing · 18/09/2017 13:29

Btw cidal and Dettoll soap are mega cheap in Savers stores!

JessiCake · 18/09/2017 13:53

Hurrah for everyone who is now smelling fresh and lovely!

I put the Sure stick deodorant to the test today as I had a busy morning in an environment I knew would be warm.

Thrilled to report that the combo of a wash with good ol' Imperial Leather and the sure stick has kept me smelling FAB all morning. I am inhaling both armpits as I type and I smell of nothing but fresh soapy-ness.

Seriously, this is new to me. In the past I'd have been stinky after this kind of morning, and probably have pretty much ruined a nice new top.

I'm just cross, now, that I was foolish enough to not tackle this properly before. Last month I threw out my beloved silk tuxedo jacket (impossible to replace) because it was just beyond stinky after too many wears (and often I would use high-powered deodorant when going out for a night in it, eg Mitchum). I could have prevented that by just using blooming soap instead!!! Angry

Still, better late than never.

Want to award a virtual trophy to the posters who first told me their soap secret. Thank you SO MUCH.

Sure stick deodorant is the bees knees, only antiperspirant that has EVER worked for me, love it.

Fairy or Persil Non Bio powder is brilliant TheMightyMing, just make sure you rinse out the detergent drawer regularly when using powder or it gets a bit bunged up/stinky.

donajimena · 19/09/2017 14:56

Today was my first soapy shower. I do feel a lot fresher!

woodhill · 19/09/2017 17:07

Found a blue pears soap. I use shower gel still on other body parts

Hayesking · 19/09/2017 20:03

Fwiw after this thread I encouraged dd to wash her face with pears for a week. She'd broken out badly and uses a lot of primer and foundation. After four days her skin has really cleared up Shock

MorrisZapp · 19/09/2017 20:34

So I dashed into Asda. Picked up a packet of Shield deodorising soap. Had a sniff. Was immediately transported back to the public baths of my childhood ca 1975.

Opted for the Radox 'jasmine and lily', three bars for a quid.

Tomorrow, it begins.

Thethreegraces · 19/09/2017 20:43

I use the combination of Dettol antibacterial soap (£1 in pound shop) & Mitchum roll on. Works for me.

Ontheboardwalk · 19/09/2017 20:55

Haffiana interesting about Dove soap. I use it in the shower but am going to switch and see if it makes a difference

TheMightyMing · 19/09/2017 21:27

Lady Penelope I think bio rather than non bio for sweatiness esp teenagers ? I got surf will see how we fare.

wtffgs · 19/09/2017 21:41

What a fab thread!

I'm in the hot flashing menopausal stage too. I'm cracking open the soap for tomorrow's shower.

Thanks people Flowers

MrsMarigold · 19/09/2017 21:48

simple soap (the bar) and Dove maximum protection here as I can't use gel only cream. Truly excellent

littlebillie · 19/09/2017 22:32

Seriously this is a thing? I thought it was always swap for pits and bits and shower gel on whim to add a bit of scent?!

MorrisZapp · 19/09/2017 22:33

My whim smells ok.

permanentlyfrazzled1 · 20/09/2017 22:21

If anyone is still around on this thread, can you recommend the best soap for blackheads? I've suffered with them on my nose since puberty, tried loads of stuff over the years, to no avail, but I'm intrigued by a pp suggesting soap is good for them.

Tantpoke · 20/09/2017 22:37

you need salicylic acid for your blackheads, try the one from The Ordinary. Just one small drop rubbed onto your nose after cleansing am and pm for a couple of weeks or so should do it

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 20/09/2017 22:43

I've always assumed that shower gels are just runny soap. Apparently not so!

TheHamptons · 20/09/2017 22:52

I don't suffer with any stinky issues but I'm sick of going through shower gel quickly, and all the plastic.

So I just bought myself some lovely (expensive) French bar soap to enjoy in the shower. It'll probably end up being cheaper than shower gel as it'll last far longer.

Kaykee · 21/09/2017 07:18

I've always used soap on armpits, boobs and down below, frangrance free as don't want scented shower gels near delicate areas and want them clean rest I use a decent good quality shower gel am a bit paranoid about smelling lol.

I've switched to sure max after using Mitchum due to it not working and feeling smelly - I work long hours and get quite warm so this works much better but will get the fragrance free one next time as the one I got I'm not keen on.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 21/09/2017 07:37

PermanentlyFrazzled - I got rid of a horrible lingering spottiness with Lush soap, and have hardly had a spot since.

I don't know about increased freshness, I'm a Sure Maximum for Men user, but soap leaves me much less itchy than shower gel, and it's a little luxury every morning now I can have poncey craft fair soap, but was super-cheap when I was skint. I only use shower gel for travelling these days, which means I can justify one bottle a year at Body Shop prices.
