Tis the season...

The first one I've seen actually for sale is the John Lewis Beauty Advent Calendar. £149 with a great selection of products.
Ordered mine!

I think I read something (on mumsnet) about the jo malone calendar going for much more on ebay - don't get it really, why wouldn't you go to the company first? Just buy it direct if you wanted it?

chloechloe · 25/10/2017 11:20

I just went on the website to order and then discovered they're charging £15 for European delivery which I feel is way too much. So I'm going to behave myself and not buy it after all. Sob!

Mrsallovertheplace · 25/10/2017 11:22

It is crazy. LF is on eBay for 140 with 15 watchers on one listing and isnt sold out Confused it's madness. There should definitely be a cap on how many you can buy. Someone was bragging on Qvc fb page that they'd ordered 20 tili advents to put on eBay so for people to head to there if they missed out in the 40 minutes it took to sell out.

I was hoping for the liberty to sell out quick though, if it's available much longer I may buy it.

Theonlyoneiknow · 25/10/2017 11:25

Is there a link to the Liberty one? I don't need it but ..... had M+S the last 2/3 years !

HaHaHmm · 25/10/2017 11:27

Bullet the only reason I can think of is that you can't get the Liberty calendar shipped to the USA or Canada (I don't know about JM) directly from Liberty. I suppose given the very favourable exchange rate to USD it might just be worth it, although you would presumably fall foul of the ban on sending perfume internationally?

Laska5772 · 25/10/2017 11:28

Liberty Advent calendar

OneInAMillionYou · 25/10/2017 11:41

Only problem with being on the Liberty web site for a while last night waiting for the calendar to go live was I had time to add a few other things to my basket! 😳

Theonlyoneiknow · 25/10/2017 11:44

Thanks for link! Ok so I hadn't realised quite how expensive it was Blush are the products good? I am a beauty hoarder though and love trying new products/Caroline Hirons fan etc etc etc

OneInAMillionYou · 25/10/2017 11:45

Chloe, they charge £5 for UK delivery which I was a bit 🤔 about, but the parcel is really huge, and heavy with lots of fragile bottles inside so I reached the conclusion it was probably justified.
Last year's was really well packaged and protected as well.

chloechloe · 25/10/2017 11:56

Yes I guess it's expensive to package and ship million. I still can't stop thinking about it though and want to get it anyway!

I can't believe people have the audacity to sell them on EBay stating that they're sold out already!

OneInAMillionYou · 25/10/2017 11:56

Just seen on Twitter that the Liberty calendar is the fastest selling product in the history of the store! They are selling 33 per minute online with a queue of 300 outside the store this morning.
I wonder how many they've made?

OP posts:
OneInAMillionYou · 25/10/2017 11:58

Yes, boo hiss to those crooks on eBay! By all means sell on but it is misleading to say they've already sold out. Actually, forget misleading, it's a plain old lie!

OP posts:
zoomer456 · 25/10/2017 12:04

Do people buy these for the novelty / excitement or do they use their products already? I just think if you get used to using these products and then run out do you buy them again separately? Sorry not being funny just a genuine question x

BulletFox · 25/10/2017 12:11

zoomer I would say it's partially like a 'toy' (treat) for adults - never underestimate the importance of that! - partially a lot of nice products in one haul so to speak, at a cheaper rate, and also you might find some things which you love and want to continue using

OneInAMillionYou · 25/10/2017 12:15

I genuinely use many of the products already, and am delighted to get them at what amounts to a bargain price, especially as it becomes part of my Christmas.
Some of the new products from last year I kept and loved and others I shared with my sister and friends, I expect to do the same this year.

That's a lot of joy for £179!

OP posts:
Theonlyoneiknow · 25/10/2017 12:15

Has anyone gone for the John Lewis one? Thoughts? Although in same price range as Liberty....... Arfhghfhfhfhh

RubyWinterstorm · 25/10/2017 12:18

Loved my M&S one last year, and used most of the products.

Am now thinking about the Lookfantastic one, but decided to wait until the end of the month....(cash flow thing Grin)

If it is sold out by then, it's fate Sad

Belindabelle · 25/10/2017 12:32

I hope the Liberty one sells out soon because I am so tempted!

BUT

I have bought the Decleor one which I have opened. It only cost me 40 as I had a John Lewis voucher and I was going to buy some Decleor anyway.

I will buy the M&S one. I intend to use this to re fill my Liberty one from last year. (DS will do it for me so I get a surprise).

I have around 300 pounds worth in my Space NK basket waiting for a possible gift with purchase offer.

I am just back from USA where I spent a rather obscene amount in Sephora on their 'value' sets.

I really need to stay off Style and Beauty!

caggie09 · 25/10/2017 12:34

For me, its the excitement! I love opening them up to find new products or products i love in there! Its like a present everyday, argh now im excited to open them now!! Im also thinking of getting the Deluxe Hotel Chocolat calender £68Blush i do have some vouchers to use so i want have much to put towards it and theres a discount code at the mo so im getting it for next to nothing anyway. I clearly have a thing for bloody advent calendarsGrin

Mrsallovertheplace · 25/10/2017 13:20

Zoomer I think for a lot of us it's a good way to discover new products and get treat sizes of things we either use already or would like to try.

For example in last year's m&s I discovered Emma Hardie moringa balm and alpha h liquid gold, both of which I've repurchased since and are now a staple in my skincare routine, but I wouldn't have spent to get the full size version without trying it first. This year I'm excited by a lot of products in LF (I watched an unboxing video) and as M&S got it spot on for me last year I'm thinking of having that again.

Pippin8 · 25/10/2017 13:38

I agree it’s a good introduction to new products. I discovered rituals from my look fantastic calendar last year & Sisley & REN from beauty boxes I’ve had in the past.

I love the excitement of opening the little door each day.

chloechloe · 25/10/2017 14:19

For anyone debating whether to get the Look Fantastic one, it's a good one! Yes I may have opened it already but in my defence my toddler helped.

Annabelle4 · 25/10/2017 15:51

I caved and ordered the LF one. I was afraid it would be out of stock unless I pounced. I watched a YouTube video and it does look amazing.

Piccolino2 · 25/10/2017 16:07

I caved and just bought mine. I do love luxury beauty products and haven’t really tried anything new recently. Tend to stock up on Elemis from which I do love. I started googling product reviews for the Liberty Calendar and it made me really excited. I can’t wait! Looking forward to all the threads In December! Now to find DH a super duper calendar to justify mine Wink

onemouseplace · 25/10/2017 16:47

I've just ordered a craft beer one for DH as he was feeling a bit left out!
