Me again - sorry for posting in random snippets!

Pest - agree DIY advent calendars way to go but I don't have a vsssel yet. Need to buy one to fill next year! Going for the Look Fantastic calendar as the box looks really gorgeous

GreenPolishToGo · 28/09/2017 17:12

I think they're worth a punt Bluebell. They are heavily discounted at this stage so you could end up with a real bargain. And if you don't like it I'm sure you could swap it here or sell it on eBay. I plumped for the set of three 9mls, which isn't that much of a risk for me because I do like almost everything 4160 Tuesdays turn out and love quite a lot of them.

And on the subject of 4160s the newsletter (which can be found on a link on the Facebook page if you don't subscribe) has announced that the next half-price Scent of the Week will be Up the Apples and Pears because it's just been chosen as a 2017 'Fall' scent by Now Smell This. Hooray! Baked beans for the rest of the month!

The newsletter also makes a cryptic reference to "24 Advent Calendars" so keep your eyes peeled...Cheap are you out there?

Pestilentialone · 28/09/2017 17:56

cheap and inoffensive from Matalan £20, an empty vessel Grin

I have the kids christmas tree one from goodness knows when.

MrsMacNally · 28/09/2017 19:07

Get well soon One. Flowers

Bluebell - don't worry, the Zoologist perfumes are usually conceptually representative of the featured animal, rather than smelling of the animals themselves. So Panda is a fairly mild mannered oriental tea and bamboo shoots sort of thing (not sure they'd be much of a market for Rhinoceros otherwise...). Of course this does seem to work in reverse for B**. Interesting interview with Ellen Covey.

Civet (which doesn't contain any civet) smells a lot like vintage Femme (which does contains civet. But it adds a pink-tinted plush glow to proceedings, rather than anything particularly gamey or skanky).

Let's just swerve Beaver given the earlier thread Grin.

On empty vessels, have found some cheap pretty wedding favour boxes which I am planning to stamp with numbers and arrange artfully along fairy light strings from Poundland. Less than a fiver all-in and hopefully still compliant with fire regs. I notice a vogue for the 12 days of Christmas, rather than the full 24/25 day calendar, so have a line of retreat if it proves too big a faff...

On 4160s crowd sourcing, their fruits and gourmands are always stand-out fabulous so think this is a v good bet. Was going to try and restrain myself with just the Rhubarb and Citrus Cologne, but then I saw a mention of tobacco leaf in the Custard and all was lost. (But just the 9mls). I loved the mix-your own option, but alas, funds do not permit....

I thought it was b*t we had to swerve. Liked Macaque, but don't think I got the musk. My hairdresser liked it and could be brought on board to perfumista status. She is a long term serial monogamist for Cabotine. And hates just about everything on them counters.

MrsMacNally · 28/09/2017 20:31

Long story OC. Impressed you're proselytising

(Perhaps we could work towards recognition in the next census like the Jedi?).

SOTD Tauer LDDM here today. Hope all poorly people are better soon - I am still staving it off for now, but in a foul mood as I got up for a wee at 2am to find the cat had done a poo in the bath. DP dealt with it (he is a good 'un) but I really struggled to get back to sleep properly and then had a full day of teaching, dentist, then hairdresser. Urgh!

explodingkittens · 28/09/2017 20:45

I am very tempted by the 4160s Rhubarb and Citrus 9ml. Can't go wrong for a tenner, surely?

Dp has given his approval to L'air de rien, so that's definitely going on the Christmas list Wink

boldlygoingsomewhere · 28/09/2017 20:57

SOTD was Rome 1963 again - I love this. I'm hoping it will be on offer soon so I can get a full bottle.

One, hope you feel better soon.

I'm trying to track down a perfume my mum used to wear. It was one of those cheap and cheerful 70s ones - Panache. I think I've found it but it looks different. Anyone know if it's been reformulated? I just really fancied a sniff of it to see if it still smelled like my mum. Smile

Pestilentialone · 28/09/2017 22:05

4160 news letter link. So much so for no more spends this year. Apples and Pears is essential at half price. I am going to be a big girl and resist the crowd fund. Me and rhubarb have issues.

One pneumonia makes sense, you have been too poorly to open perfume Shock , that is too poorly. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon.

Cuoio is good isn't it Blue , try it on yourself.

Sock do you love your hairdresser enough to get her a bloom sample box as a Christmas box. Bring her over to the scented side Grin

The Chloe EDP (the one with the lychee) has lasted well, I smell nice, not lovely, striking or skanky, just nice. Good for work, never offensive but lasts.

My Roullier White sample arrived, that was nice and quick. They may all need a quick test before landing in an advent calendar. Who am I kidding, I might just as well put 24 samples in a couple of whisky tumblers and put them next to my tooth brush. I have no patience. Blush

So, Ideo Parfumeurs - London to Mumbai starts with lavender and citrus with some really nice subtle but there spices. Then it builds up richer and darker with tonka, patchouli, oakmoss and tuberose. Nothing glares out, it is a good blend. Not sure about the longevity, I did the washing up Hmm and lost it. Will try again tomorrow. DS1 says he was not that into it. Shazam! is the only perfume he has ever expressed a like for.

Pestilentialone · 28/09/2017 22:14

Lentheric Panache ?
Taylor of London Panache ?
Unfortunately Boldly it is bound to be different. Probably a good one to hunt down on e-bay.

BluebellGal · 28/09/2017 22:35

Thanks Green Pest and mrsmacnally- I'll check out the advent vessels suggestions and 4160 crowdsourcing options (if they haven't sold out already). Zoologist samples would be good for AC. Would also look at bloom and reside lots I have. I've preordered the Look Fantastic AC though but I don't mind, I've run down by beauty products lately and so have room for more !

BluebellGal · 28/09/2017 22:35

Can 1 woman have two AC on the go?!

BluebellGal · 28/09/2017 22:37

Boldly I've tried ToL panache recently- it's in Boots. I liked it. Very 70s/80s. I never smelt the original though so can't compare

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 29/09/2017 03:11

Hello everyone! Just caught up with the thread - and what a good time to do it!

A 4160s advent calendar!! Although not sure there will be very many... Will keep eyes open but try not to get hopes up. And yes Bluebell you can definitely have more than one advent calendar on the go Grin

Other 4160 stuff sounds good. The Eau my Soul sounds lovely but at £30 for 9ml is a bit of a stretch. Crowdfunder is intriguing... what might I already know with Rhubarb notes??

Got a bottle of Si for my birthday for PiL. They often do well and I like the Bamboo they got me last time. Si is quite peachy and light so I think might have to wait until Spring.

House currently smells of a special blend of Linen and Hello Spring Zoflora. This may be connected to unfortunate incident where DS1 learned way we don't use too much toilet tissue... Absolute nightmare but now the drama's over I am enjoying the Linen smell!! Usually keep that one for use in the washing machine but It's going to get a promotion!

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 29/09/2017 05:40

I’m a little behind in posting, but still keeping up and now have lots of lovely reading to do Smile

One I hope you feel lots better very soon, pneumonia is terrible, poor you, no wonder you don’t feel well enough to sniff Flowers

Re advent calendars, you can get little Christmas bags and/or advent stickers from amazon lots of online places, I tend to just do this as it makes it easier. Little Christmas cellophane bags (for biscuits etc) are good if you wrap samples in tissue paper, 4160 Style. Fairy lights are inspired MrsMac

Sorry not to “name check” everyone’s posts as I’m under the weather myself (hence 5am MNing Blush) and a little behind but I am definitely absorbing everyone’s comments for my own advent calendars. (Btw having multiple calendars of one’s own is perfectly acceptable, in fact to be encouraged Wink)

Flowers for any poorly or frazzled Perfumistas, in fact Flowers for everyone!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 29/09/2017 06:40

Thank you,Pest. The Lentheric is the box I remember. Smile It's inexpensive so I'll try the Taylor's of London version and try a vintage formulation from eBay. Bluebell, good to know it still smells nice!

I like the sound of Apples and Pears - will have to get myself a sample of that.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 29/09/2017 06:41

Pest Sorry, bold fail. Blush

explodingkittens · 29/09/2017 07:52

Morning all. Full of cold here so have drenched myself in Avignon, safe in the knowledge that despite feeling grim, looking knackered and having a tricky day ahead at work, I will at least smell divine literally.

One - hope you start to feel better soon; a colleague has just recovered from walking pneumonia but she was wiped out for a good couple of weeks, it's rotten.

Loving the idea of perfume advent calendars! I will be checking out the Liberty one tomorrow although I expect the price is stratospheric. Am so excited about a whole day to myself to indulge my new obsession - may visit Les Senteurs and Bloom Perfumery as well...

explodingkittens · 29/09/2017 08:00

Liberty advent calendar not out until end of October - am both relieved and disappointed by this news Grin

PerfumeIsAMessage · 29/09/2017 08:43

Panache has been reformulated beyond compare. Do NOT buy the Taylor of London- it's got a vestige imprint of the original, but lacks the sharp, grown up aldehydic (possibly) note. The Taylor one is like a room spray dupe (iyswim)

www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Womens-Fragrances/11848/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=vintage+Panache

Linen Zoflora is my favourite so far- like an Eau de Parfum version of blue Lenor.

Last night I had an urge for L'Heure Bleu - I find it difficult to describe how it makes me feel. It's not one that conjures up any specific memories, have never known anyone who wears it, and when I recommended it to my powder-drydown loving friend she pronounced it rancid. It has such a visceral effect on me though- which must be truly the sign of a magnificent perfume(r). It is possibly the one perfume that would spring to mind as the perfume-embodying-its-name rather than the name coming later to describe the juice. Does that make any sense? It could never have smelled any differently, and it could never have had a different name. It just is a perfect linguistic and olfactory description of "L'Heure Bleu". I don't even think it's beautiful- it's more than that. Sublime, I suppose, (in the literature and art meaning rather than in the "oooh that Haagen Dazs was sublime" kind of way.

LADDM today as am still in warm spice mood and was first warm spice sample I grabbed. Just beautiful. (mixes rather nicely with the slight trace of L'HB still there too)

My Buckingham Palace Grin handcream is also very nice. Lots of geranium. Love the smell of geranium leaf.

Pestilentialone · 29/09/2017 09:39

PIAM you have just reminded me to find a wooden bowl and put all the hand creams in it. Grabbing one randomly from a bag in a dark cupboard has led to some clashes.

These advent calendars are allowed to have chocolate coin in aren't they!!??!!

OCSockOrphanage · 29/09/2017 09:41

Pest, she's very lovely but not sure I luffs her quite enough for that. I did think I'd send some samples (or take them next appointment!) Anyone who likes Cabotine, please offer some suggestions...

Today's trial is B*t, given that NST have put it on their best for fall 2017 list. It is very earthy and vegetal but 10 minutes in, it isn't filling me with love, although it does smell season-appropriate. Rotting leaves and damp woollens come to mind.

BluebellGal · 29/09/2017 13:03

SOTD is E Coudray Iris Rose. I feel pretty and get wafts every time I move. This is my favourite perfume right now. Less than £15 for a decent sized travel bottle so I can spray with abandon.

DH SOTD is Black Amber Agonist again, he is going to want a FB for Christmas isn't he? Shock

Cleaning weekend here - off to check out zoflora
