Morning all! Was looking forward to a day in Avignon, but my Roullier White sample package plopped through the door (super-quick delivery!) and now I'm like a kid in a sweet shop. Appropriately enough, therefore, I'm in Shazam! which on me has top-notes of fizzy cola bottles Grin. It's not yet the sophisticated oriental it's supposed to be, but it's lovely and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.

OneNight - hope you feel better soon, that sounds absolutely rotten.

I also bought The Emperor of Scent yesterday - the book about Luca Turin clearly there's no hope for me now. Has anyone read it?

MrsMacNally · 23/09/2017 11:04

EK I'd have said 'forthright and fantastically uplifting' rather than 'sophisticated'?

The Chandler Burr is on my bedside table but I haven't got very far.

explodingkittens · 23/09/2017 12:11

I think you're right Mrs. I always think of orientals as terribly grown-up perfumes, therefore 'sophisticated' - however I suppose something named Shazam! was never going to be that Grin

Badders08 · 23/09/2017 12:19

I need to get me some shazam 😁

explodingkittens · 23/09/2017 12:34

Tkmaxx has 20mls of Womanity for £25. 10ml purse spray and 10ml refill. It's not the sort of perfume one should buy blind though, is it?

boldlygoingsomewhere · 23/09/2017 14:31

4160's scent of the week is Babylon Sunset.

My samples from Les Senteurs arrived so I have tried LADDM - this is lovely. I'm liking the strong incense dry down.

BluebellGal · 23/09/2017 15:31

Glad you liked SH kittens. I didn't want to ruin it for those who hadn't been when I wrote about it before, but I can now say I was repulsed by ELdO SM and En Passant. Charcoal was not pleasant but I could appreciate it. Loved purple rain, el cosmico, LADDM. I found Avignon and the Killian Wells very evocative of my Catholic Church heavy, theme park loving childhood.

SOTD E Coudray Iris Rose. Absolutely gorgeous and have decided my favourite perfume right now. Perfect for ballet today as it has a vintage feel and make up/hairspray vibe .

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 23/09/2017 15:40

Oh kittens I would go for it, perfume seems to sell well on eBay at the moment (can't think why Wink) so it's not that risky if you don't love it (enabler badge, MrsMac?)

Thurible, thank you PIAM DH has been lapsed a very long time so couldn't remember Smile Eau Sacree was very nostalgic for him.

Green that is very annoying about the advent calendar, there are some rotters about! Angry re sample bottles, I tend to buy teeny ones from
eBay/Amazon for a few quid but they're only for cheapie stuff, I maybe wouldn't entrust the good stuff to them.

Judy I have tried the Gabrielle and loved the opening, but the drydown was distinctly weird on me. I think it must be the jasmine or ylang ylang looking at the notes. It's most odd that it has that sort of generic pleasant "Chanel" note to it on opening, but then it smells much less expensive than the price tag! It reminds me a little of Chance, but the only Chanels I really like are Allure and 19. Extremely glad to have tried it though thanks (and I may have just ordered the PP version of The One, as reviews looked good BlushGrin)

OneNight I'm sorry you still feel poorly, it's rubbish, but at least you have your Penhaligons to look forward to Smile Perfect perfume house for convalescence.

Judydreamsofhorses · 23/09/2017 16:46

SOTD is JHAG Mad Madame, for a weirdly warm day after a week when I contemplated gloves in the mornings. Been out for lunch and now it's an evening of junk telly in pyjamas - lovely.

floofy, Gabrielle reminded me a bit of Chance too, which is another I find pleasant but would never buy.

one feel better soon, being ill is so rubbish.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 23/09/2017 17:25

Well as dh is working overnight sotd is poal. (He thinks it smells like zoflora-the oaf) But have made a perfume buddy! The woman who is scent buyer at my local house of Fraser. We chatted for ages, both hate new Guerlain, disappointed with new Chanel, Decadence and reformulations of classics. Sadly actual paying customers got in the way, but she said pop in anytime to talk perfume.

BluebellGal · 23/09/2017 18:45

Enjoy your evening Judy - sounds perfect. I'm plonked in front of Strictly with DD loving it so far

I've just been on JHAG website- tried to place a discovery box order. looks like they no longer deliver to UK. Anyone know why? They deliver to Ireland and the Pitcairn Islands so why not us? Punishment coming early for Brexit? I ordered from the site last year so this is a change

PerfumeIsAMessage · 23/09/2017 19:18

Evening all.

Kitten- I don't really get FM either. I've yet to be bowled over by any and was seriously underwhelmed by En Passant in particular.

Re SH and SM- I didn't feel anything particular, I didn't notice anything too bodily-fluid about it tbh. Just not terribly nice iirc. I loved Charcoal. Not as much as Avignon (wel jel of the FB!) and Purple Rain but still loved it.

I started today in another watery-meh sample. Odin Vert Reseda. Pffft. Indistinguishable from yesterday's watery sample of whatever it was...can't even remember such was its meh-ness.

So am basking in Lonestar Memories now. I haven't worn it since about March and haven't smelled it since I took it for my colleague to sniff while the kids were doing their exams. My god it's shocking. Obsessively, wondrously, sexily shocking. It's quite repulsive really, (I just know dd is going to come in the room in a mo and go "what the heck have you got on" but it compels me. (it's also clearing my blocked sinuses a treat!) One tiny squirt and I smell like I've been embalmed. (not that I know what that smells like obvs)

I've decided I'm on a no-buy till after Christmas and have deleted all my ebay searches without looking at them for the past 3 days It won't last obviously. Grin

Judy- thanks so much for the offer of a sample of Eau Sacree, but I'm in Italy as you know and I fear the postage would be too cheeky to expect you to send me anything Flowers

HaHaHmm · 24/09/2017 08:51

kittens I've been hoping to stumble across one of those in TKM and I'm really keen to smell Womanity - I love fig. Sadly all of the samplers have disappeared from stores.

explodingkittens · 24/09/2017 09:03

Bluebell, the Killian at SH made me smile, although I'd never wear it. Reminded me of the 'It's A Small, Small World' ride at Disneyland; dank, green, chloriney.

PIAM - agree about Lonestar Memories. I've found something to love in all the Tauers I've tried so far, but LM has taken some getting used to. The opening is so heavily creosote/balsam on me (and I like balsamy scents!) that it's almost unpleasant, but it does settle.

Talking of Tauer, I'm sure I offered to send my sample of Le Maroc to another Perfumista but I can't remember who? Shout if you still want it though!

Have been browsing the Bloom site. God, there are some amazing things on there - I just want to try them all. Has anyone taken the plunge with a subscription? It looks pretty good value - 72 samples over the year for £120, and they really do have some exciting-looking stuff. I might ask for it for Christmas...

Floofy, you definitely need an enabler badge Wink

explodingkittens · 24/09/2017 09:04

haha - that's annoying...they still had it listed online yesterday but it did say Low Stock. So tempting though.

MrsMacNally · 24/09/2017 09:38

For Floof. (Now going into retirement).

This morning I have Zoflora'd the sink and used the green and white Wiko wipes to clean kitchen surfaces.

*Wilko even.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 24/09/2017 10:59

I keep falling off these threads and then lurking around vicariously sniffing. I've finally cracked and ordered a full bottle of LADDM - my sample is nearly finished and les senteurs' samples are so disappointingly small and need to be dabbed on, so I am calling this a birthday present to myself! I've tried Au Coeur du Desert too but actually I prefer the spices and resins in the original to the creamy smooth extrait. I threw in samples of carillon pour in ange and incense rose too, and it should arrive on Monday - squee!

Pre-shower SOTD is Civet by Zoological. I'm a bit meh on this - there's something sweet and cloying in it that isn't really me.

Mitsouko lovers, do you have vintage versions? I vaguely liked it after spraying some on in a shop, but then I added a sample of an 80s bottle to a 4160s order and it is amazing!

BluebellGal · 24/09/2017 10:59

Kittens et al - I agree about Lonestar Memories which I tried at Les Senteurs and wasn't taken by. Bloom's offerings are very tempting especially for the price. I think their sets will be going on my Christmas list.

I've just had a spending spree on eBay. Purchased a 12 ml roll/spray bottle of E Coudray Iris Rose. Can't get enough of this and my second sample is running out. Also bought a blind buy of MH Rose Silences 14ml travel bottle as the notes sounded good and it was under £7 so worth taking a chance. Next was a 5ml sample of Pal Z Cuoio which someone here recommended as dupe for TF Tuscan leather (for DH to try). Very chuffed with purchases.

I'm now drenched in MH Noix de Tuberose and wafting around in a gorgeous cloud of heady flowers tempered by lots of tonka bean. I really love this one and it's on my FB list. It's got great longevity for a MH (I find many of their other offerings a bit poor on longevity).

Another for my FB Xmas list is Chanel No 5 L'Eau. I can't wear the original but this flanker suits me and is a decent nod to the original (which my mum used to wear). I can see myself wearing it at work and formal occasions

Cin3ma · 24/09/2017 11:23

Morning all.

The Bloom annual subscription looks extremely tempting...

MaryLennoxsScowl (love that name, btw) - I'd love to get my hands on some vintage Mitsouko, too. I've heard the vintage EDP is smoother and has much better lasting power.

Haven't decided on a SOTD yet. Feeling a bit maudlin, so its either something to wallow in or something to cheer me right up. Decisions decisions.

BluebellGal · 24/09/2017 11:45

Cinema - I say something sunny to cheer you up! The weather is too nice today (well in much of the UK today at least!) to wallow and life's too short. Maybe something sparkling, fruity, coconut - to take you to a sunny place!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 24/09/2017 12:07

Marylennox, I have some vintage Mitsuoko. The top notes are not really discernible any more but it is very mossy and delicious. The more modern one I have feels much lighter in comparison.

1460 Tuesday's did have some vintage Mitsuoko available a little while ago. Might be worth seeing if they still have some.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 24/09/2017 14:07

kittens it was me! I also forgot who. Will PM. I don't know if I've got any swaps though.
I know they are inconsequential things that have the longevity of a mayfly, but boots are discontinuing Library of
Fragrance, I grabbed a few for dds stocking, they were 3.50, for that I'm going to use them as room scents.
I'm on a ban too, especially pp. I've got far, far too many.
No sotd, I may go for a squirt of youth dew, it's that kind of day here.

explodingkittens · 24/09/2017 15:41

Oh do PM ohwhat, I'd be happy to send it. Don't worry about swaps.

Good call on Youth Dew. I'll be wearing that a lot in a week or so - it was my mum's scent (along with Private Collection) and we're just coming up to the first anniversary of her death. It conjures her up for me like nothing else.

First SOTD was 'What we do in Paris is secret' - a very polite, baby-powderish scent, sweet and unobtrusive. Very fitting for pottering around the house on a sunny Sunday, but not going to blow any minds. A little dull perhaps, which is shame and a bit of a disappointment given the great name.

Second SOTD is Yesterday Haze by Imaginary Authors. This is a lot punchier - it's supposed to be fig but it's not the fresh, green, wet fig I love in Philosykos. Very very sweet, has a coconutty, almost piña-colada vibe, probably from the tonka bean I guess. Great if you like gourmands but it's too much for me. Maybe a good holiday fume, for when the cocktails start flowing!

I might scrub and spritz Avignon instead...

explodingkittens · 24/09/2017 17:27

Two hours in to Yesterday's Haze and all I'm getting is memories of the hairdressers my grandmother used to go to in the 70s. Setting lotion, overheated hair and ammonia. It's a scrubber Sad
