Well, summer barely happened so we're ready to pack away the shorts and the kaftans and get excited about boots, cosy knits and anything new and shiny.
We're often scared to link what we're lusting after for fear of lurkers buying it before we have the chance. So if you're a lurker, come and join us.
Carrying on from here

I assumed she meant one of these kitty

justasecond · 23/10/2017 20:14

Just saw this queenc I'm so sorry that you and your dc are going through this Flowers thinking of you and wishing you lots of strength to get through this horrible horrible time. Lots of love and hugs xxx

kittyhello · 23/10/2017 20:22

Ah thanks Shop maybe I’ll have a go with one of those.

Everyonelovessparkles · 23/10/2017 20:49

Ha ha I thought amber was referring to a paper hole punch too kitty, though shop’s suggestion seems far more sensible. 😂😂

Hope you are doing ok queenc. WineFlowers

shopafrolic · 23/10/2017 21:43

I have to say I would get Gucci to do it for fear of mistakes.....

BerniceBobsHerHair · 24/10/2017 10:35

QueenC hugs and sympathy Flowers

He he I also had visions of Amber wielding a hole punch usually used for paper.

Fedup I have heard good things about MV jeans but never tried them myself.

I think I will go M&S for advent calendar, haven't tried it before but have had some of their beauty boxes and generally liked most of the products.

Dry I'm pleased that you got your bag and Grin at your enthusiasm! Has it arrived yet?

Stokey I recently got the green jumpsuit in the Hush sale - I think you might have the same? sorry if that sounds stalkerish Am hoping it is a good work horse, iirc you have worn it quite a bit.

Marsha it is not a high end suggestion but Uniqlo is good for down jackets, I think a lot of people get a thin gilet style to wear under a nicer coat, so you could do something like that? I might follow my own advice and get this one

Lib great to hear from you!

Serenite · 24/10/2017 14:08

Not been on for a while so I'm going to read the last few pages but I've read about your heartbreak QueenC and I send you love. I hope you have lots of support IRL, it's a terrible thing to go through - but you will get through it.

There's a saying 'when you're going through hell, keep going.' And believe you'll handle this and come out the other side; sometimes because we've got no other choice, to be strong for children, to show the one who has betrayed us that we are strong and they won't break us, for all sorts of reasons, you'll handle it and get through it, and it'll be ok.

Personally I'd wait a little too before selecting a new ring but only you know yourself what's the right thing to do. It can be liberating not to wear any rings, for a short while, it can help building yourself up inside without needing the outside things.

Now I don't know you and I don't know if it's relevant at all, but this summer my engagement ring broke. I actually have it fixed but haven't worn it since as I found it quite freeing not to have it on my finger - I still wear my wedding ring but my engagement ring is quite big and I realised I was getting self worth from it, so I've given myself time to be 'good enough' without the bling (still wear other bling though!). I hope you know what I mean - this sounds like a time to nurture yourself and reaffirm your self worth. I'm sorry for what you are going through in any event x

queencerulean · 24/10/2017 17:36

Ah serenite thank you for your message. I’ve worn 3 or 4 rings for years and never ever take them off so I really do feel naked without them. It would be like not wearing earrings which I’ve never not done for about 35 years!
Is that odd of me or is everyone like that?

OP posts:
Serenite · 24/10/2017 19:42

Hi I'm caught up now!
No I know exactly what you mean snout feeling 'naked' without the rings/earrings QueenC - at the end of the day you do what contents you during this time - u think you've ordered the Tiffany haven't you, you'll love it and the one from your daughters, very sweet.
Talking of rings, Everyone your new ring is absolutely gorgeous- I'm glad to hear you are wearing it everyday too, that's what yo do with jewellery, clothes, bags, shoes.
Although after my recent shenanigans with my bag I would get up to date valuations/photo valuables etc - nightmare otherwise.

Dry your new bag is beautiful- grey is such a versatile colour, stylish and eye catching, I love it. And yours too Blingy, classic and beautiful.
All the marmont shoe owners, I hope you love them, I've looked at them and have been tempted but not taken the plunge yet.
Lib I'm glad to hear you've that part of the journey over you, enjoy the journey as well as looking forward to getting settled, sounds amazing. Have to say, and I'm sure you CBB at the moment but when you get settled, I still hope for your 19 pieces for sahm!
One that is wonderful, your style always sounds so quirky I'm not one bit surprised it's been picked up on instagram, well done!
Shop I hope you like your new hair and that your mums issues are getting resolved - wonderful succinct advice from Blingy; there so much support on here!
I'd love a little bit of advice (😊) Please please ..... I bought the velvet printed dress from massimo dutti which was linked here a while ago - I had already spotted it and couldn't believe when it was linked here! (Don't really want to put it on main s&b thread but might?? Anyway I thought you ladies would have some ideas!!)
It was sold out and I'd been in touch with customer services etc about replenishment. Anyway I have it and I love it (don't know how to link) I'm after advice on how to style it for a wedding - I have black loubies/short black fur jacket. But do you think velvet blue or green block heels or even white shoe boots?? would be more striking (also more comfortable for all day!) and what about a hat/headpiece? Hopefully you'll remember the one I mean and you have some ideas to make it fab for a v stylish wedding please.

Stokey · 24/10/2017 20:22

Serenite I linked that - so happy someone bought it, it's gorgeous.

I'm not sure about shoes though, I think either block heels or your loubs would work

I was struggling a bit with what shoes to wear with my Zara peasant dress the other day. I was thinking block heels would have been ideal.

Is it the dark green one Bernice? I did wear it a lot last winter. It's good for those local nights out when you're going to the pub and don't want to look like you've made too much effort but also don't want to wear what you've been slobbing around all day in, if you know what I mean.

I don't wear earrings QueenC but would feel naked without my wedding & engagement rings so know exactly what you mean Flowers. Have the same thing if I'm not wearing a watch

AmberNectarine · 24/10/2017 22:11

I forgot to put my rings on this morning. I often do, actually. I can't sleep with them on. Equally I can't wear a watch as I feel strangled by it. I think I might be weird.

QueenC just wanted to say I really admire the way you are handling a shitty situation. I think it's brilliant you've bought yourself a ring - you are worth so much more x

Yes, a belt hole punch, not a stationery one. It has been great. I stupidly bought a 90 because the shady French sales assistant looked me up and down and suggested it, and I felt morbidly obese. Needless to say it now has 5 extra holes

shopafrolic · 25/10/2017 07:50

Morning all. Just running in to say BUY THIS Honestly the BEST night cream I have EVER used (and I have spent some ££££ on creams). After 3 days use, the permanent wrinkle I have between my eyebrows has plumped right back up again. Amazing.

BerniceBobsHerHair · 25/10/2017 07:56

Oooh I'm glad it's that cream Shop - I have a few pots in reserve, and need to start a new night cream.

Stokey yes the dark green one, it's a lovely colour.

Everyonelovessparkles · 25/10/2017 08:28

Good tip on the face cream shop. I’ve been lazy with my skin regime over the summer and it’s starting to show, so need to start up again.

amber can’t believe they suggested a 90 for you Hmm wasn’t that in selfridges too?

serenite I can’t remember the dress. What colours are in it? Have you thought about burgundy / oxblood shoes or boots? Or maybe even the prada velvet Mary Janes that blingy bought? If this colour doesn’t go, would velvet shoes in another colour work? Otherwise what you originally planned sounds good too.

For those who like Bella Freud, there is a sample sale tomorrow at browns hotel on abermarle street W1, Dover st entrance. 9-6.45. £3 entry. I’ve got DD tomorrow but am
Still seriously tempted to pop along!

BerniceBobsHerHair · 25/10/2017 12:31

Blingy I can see you in these - apologies if I have linked them for you before, they keep popping up in my ads!

Serenite sorry I don't remember the dress either.

Serenite · 25/10/2017 14:13

Stokey yes I am so happy with the dress, it's just the styling. I don't know (shame) how to link it so the ones who don't remember could see and I could get their opinions - I feel cheeky asking and hope you don't mind but would you please link it again?
Amber from what I've read on here I can't believe they let you buy that size belt!! I've take mine to a cobbler, a quid a hole! I know what you mean about feeling strangled with some jewellery, I'm ok with rings (but would go into a full panic attack if I couldn't get them off) but earrings/watch/necklace all come off as soon as I'm home for the day.
Thanks Everyone, I loved the Prada shoes Blingy bought but would want higher ones (and less pricey as this wedding is costing a fortune already!!)

libertyonhertravels · 25/10/2017 14:18

Dropping in a bit randomly to finally post this capsule wardrobe post I promised a couple of weeks ago. I am sure you have all been waiting with bated breath Grin

This is what I wore over 4/5 weeks in (a very wet and windy) autumn in Ireland on typical SAHM lifestyle.

3 x Outerwear
Olive green Waterproof mac
Burgundy Coatigan
Denim jacket

3 x trousers
Black olive chinos
Grey straight leg jeans
Black Me&Em drawstring joggers

2 x dresses
Midi floral dress
Green ruched dress

2 x Uniqlo fine knit merino cardigans, 1 mustard (crew neck), 1 dark olive green (v-neck)

5 x t-shirts
short sleeve Breton in kakhi and cream
H&M band t-shirt
1 plain navy long sleeve
1 plain lemon long sleeve
1 short sleeve scoop neck in dark olive green

2 x Shoes
Clarks hamble oak brogues in tan
Nike dark green trainers

Lots of accessories!!!
3 x scarves (one floral green, rust etc, one oversized fine knit cashmere and cotton mix plain olive, 1 x grey, mustard, cream and taupe stripe
3 x necklaces – gold and green in different lengths
Wore this Whistles bangle and this Aspinal leather bracelet every day
Beret
Tan belt
2 x bags Navy Pliage and an ancient tan very plain (ie no dog!!) Radley tan crossbody.
6 x earrings although I wore the same large pair of gold hoops most days.
Sunglasses

Verdict: this was loads believe it or not and I would have been happy to carry on with this wardrobe for a couple more months I think. Covered normal SAHM type days easily and covered me for lots of meals out in a range of venues and nights in the pub etc. The only thing I would change is that I would squeeze in my tan R&B block heel Chelsea boots if I was doing it again especially for wearing with the dresses and would probably add in one fine knit sweater in place of one of the cardigans. Also I am going to replace the Boden grey jeans before my next A/W for a pair in proper denim as I felt a bit boring in the Boden ones.

Dreamqueen · 25/10/2017 15:03

Great wardrobe planning Lib

Inspired by the super flexibility of Shop I went to yoga yesterday for the first time in ages. I'm aching and stiff allover today, but feel much better for doing it. I'm going to try to go to one class a week.

QueenC love that ring. Hope you're doing ok?

Shop I've been using that cream since getting it in one of their beauty boxes. I love it too.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 25/10/2017 15:39

Lib that is so interesting, thank you! Just goes to show that accessories are the key.

QueenC How are you? Ok I hope. Wine

Am about to do my first Boohoo order, hope I'm not too old Grin I want to get a bodysuit and the teen shops look to be the best place to go, especially as I need a Tall one. Wish I was ACTUALLY tall

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 25/10/2017 15:44

I've been thinking of tryign that cream Shop as you all know about my issues with sleep so anything that might make me look like i have actually slept a few hours is worth trying in my book. Less for the anti wrinkle properties as I genuinely have NO wrinkles or crinkles yet. I have some serious bags under my eyes though so they need dealing with

Lovely ring queenC and how lovely of your daughter to buy you a ring to wear, I'm sure that must mean so much to you. I hope you are okay, if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask Thanks

shopafrolic · 25/10/2017 19:28

I don't know anything about it One but they do an eye cream within the range......

FedupNagging · 25/10/2017 20:12

I initially looked at your list Lib and thought not enough for 5 weeks but it sounds like you managed brilliantly -perfect packing!

Queen that is so sweet of your dd.

I started back at yoga (after a brief spell 18yrs ago) at the end of September - flexible is not a word I'd use to describe myself but have noticed an tiny improvement recently. I think if I did the Shop move I'd need serious medical intervention Grin. Yoga at the Shard looks amazing but Shock at the price tag.

Serenite I don't think I remember the dress - a link would be fab, and, I'm confused, does Bernice have the same one?

Serenite · 25/10/2017 21:13

www.massimodutti.com/gb/women/dresses/silk-dress-with-velvet-print-c1472056p7968520.html?colorId=541&parentId=7968596

Omg 😲 have I just done a link? I just thought I'd try copy and paste. Will see if it works after I post, fingers crossed!

I liked that sleep cream Shop from the advent calendar last year, might have to look at it again - open to anything that delays the aging!!

One have you tried the pillow spray from This Works? I find it helps on restless nights and always guided meditations 😊 Don't have any recommendations about eye creams, I chop and change all the time but one I've tried and liked in the past was (I think) advanced eye cream from the people who make liquid gold - sorry to be so obscure but I'm afraid if I go and get the name (or link!!!!) this post will disappear.

That list is fantastic Lib I can't wait to go through it properly - and I have been waiting and hoping you'd have the time to do it. Am sure it took considerable time and effort so I for one really appreciate it.

Those doing yoga I think it's great to do anything that helps flexibility, it helps the core and posture too, and stills the mind, so it's all positive.
And a shout out to queenc, hope you are handling things and have plenty of support irl. I'm looking forward to you saying that beautiful ring is on your finger and looking at it makes you happy, you deserve it!!!
Blair you'd you get on with boohoo? I ordered animal onesie's from there and they were cute. I've seen bodysuits, mesh and cottony ones in H&M too.
Bernice have you ordered the m&s advent calendar, haven't heard if it's out yet? I always like it but have tended to keep it until Christmas Day before opening - don't know why, maybe feel like it's an indulgence and should be a 'present'. I don't know for sure if you've got the MD dress I linked (hopefully) above.

All opinions would be so welcome! I'd seen it online (no MD near me) and lived it and felt quite validated when Stokey linked it too, like ooh it must be nice 😊 I don't know if black louboutins are a bit safe/classic, what to wear hat wise (I love wearing hats) or even if the dress is 'weddingy' enough though.

Serenite · 25/10/2017 21:14

It worked!!!!!!

libertyonhertravels · 26/10/2017 04:20

Well done serenite! That dress is beautiful. I think black loubs might be a bit classic looking with it. Personally I would wear either block heel courts (the green Cos ones Bernice linked recently would be perfect IMO) or heeled ankle boots.

I enjoyed putting the capsule wardrobe together and wearing it! As Blair said accessories really made a difference. For example I would be hanging around the house in the grey jeans, band t-shirt, one of the cardigans if needed but then if I was going out, I'd add the denim jacket and scarf if just popping to the shops or adding the Mac, beret, gold hoops, belt and some bright lippy made me feel pulled together for lunch out. The other really important thing was that all of the items were very comfortable and flattering. For example, the long sleeve t-shirts are a 'baseball' style cut, very thin, soft cotton and the right level of body skimming without being tight. And I've just realised I forgot 2 items - I had 2 spaghetti strap lace trimmed vests from Jigsaw which were so useful. One in teal and one beige. They worked layered under the long sleeve T's for warmth or under a cardigan with the lace showing for another outfit choice.

QueenC am thinking of you and hoping you are managing to get some needed sleep right now Flowers

Stokey I have been wondering how you are getting on with working ft? Also mara are you back at work?

Warning - this next sentence may trigger some Envy. I am having an utterly blissful day - sitting in a beachfront bar with DD, it's about 28C, blue sky, background noise of waves lapping. DD is reading her kindle quietly while I MN and sip a really good latte. OOTD is denim shorts, off white crew cut t-shirt, flip flops and sunnies. It's totally perfect Smile
