SOTD was Heeley Hippie Rose.

MrsCocoa · 12/07/2017 20:51

Grin at OC.

Switched to an old miniature of Mystere (Rochas) tonight as I couldn't remember what it smelled like. Old school skank but with the floral notes missing in action. Leaves a huge civet/musk blast with some moss in the background. Theo Fennell has a similar animalic vibe but is more interesting and wearable (if you apply in advance and/or avoid public transport for the first 30 mins).

Calminaqualm · 12/07/2017 21:42

I have a 20 years old bottle of Mystere, empty now alas, but I keep it because I can still get a whiff when I open it up. Very rich and distinctive.

Theo Fennell is one of those where you have to hold your arms away from your nose for the first half hour!

MrsCocoa · 12/07/2017 22:15

Fragrantica list caraway rather than cumin for Theo Fennell but that doesn't seem right?

Userwithoutaname · 12/07/2017 22:51

Thanks Floofy I'll take a look.

Calminaqualm · 12/07/2017 22:59

I can definitely smell a lot of sweaty cumin to start with in the Fennell. Another arms length one is Jean Patou's Sira des Indes. It is a lovely sweet banana and champaca flower, but starts off with a definite aroma of baby poo!

GreenPolishToGo · 12/07/2017 23:01

Also Grin at Sock's renunciation. Floofy what a pain about your cancelled op. I hope rearranging it isn't too much of a headache and that your poor chest is feeling better. Flowers

The weather has been variable, to say the least. It lashed down all day yesterday but it wouldn't be a proper British summer holiday if we didn't have to give the cagoules an outing at least once. Other delights included being stalked by a herd of menacing cows - Piguet's Futur is beautiful and elegant, but not an effective bovine repellant - and falling in a gorse bush. Ouch.

Today, however, has been spent happily huffing up Malle's Musc Ravageur - probably far too spicy for summer but very, very lovely - and reading my head off on a sunny but breezy Cornish beach. Bliss.Smile

MrsC bagsy the galbanum bottle after you!

FloofyCat · 13/07/2017 08:15

So how's the withdrawing from perfume obsession working out for you sock? Grin Ooh do let me know about the Molecules 4. I'm sitting on my hands to prevent me buying some atm.

I actually dreamt last night that I was in Selfridges and a salesperson gave me three samples of Molecule - one was in a red bottle and I applied it. Immediately Doug Stamper from House of Cards appeared and started smelling my neck appreciatively. Then he pushed me off a bridge. Hmm

Anyway! I can't wait long enough to wear Theo Fennell, it smells like my DS's socks.

Green aside from errant cows and gorse bushes, holiday sounds lovely SmileYou definitely need to nick some of your DD's What I Did...I think it's actually the law to wear it on a beach!

Hope everyone is enjoying some sun and those of us counting down to the end of term aren't too knackered Grin

MrsCocoa · 13/07/2017 08:16

SotD Magie Noire.

OCSockOrphanage · 13/07/2017 08:48

Withdrawal would seem to be a lengthy process Blush. Will report back in due course. Scent du jour as of now is Dettol laundry cleanser, as I have just removed the mildew from the rotary drier. I know, I'm a slattern; it should have been done when I noticed it, ages months ago.

Waving to Green from elsewhere in Cornwall... not a beach. Beach Walk is the best of the rest of the MMM range, IMO, but Untitled reigns.

Ollivander84 · 13/07/2017 10:41

I have just bought beach walk as a blind buy Blush hope I like it
I did that with MMM lazy Sunday morning and I adore that so I'm hopeful! No scent yet today but I'm leaning towards a monotheme book of citrus day

Just came across this; it's for the person who was asking about Japanese perfumes. Someone on The Pool recommended it for weddings! Rushing out or I would bring it to the attention of the perfumista who asked.

MrsCocoa · 13/07/2017 19:21

Floofy - that's harsh! EDP is very much nicer than EDT.

Green - Ok, so we'll be fighting over the galbanum, what else are you lining up for your personal brew?

Calmina that's the second thing I've seen this week with a banana note. I don't know what that smells like - is it banana tree flower, or actual fruit bowl contents?

Any more perfume making workshop plans to reveal?

Pestilentialone · 13/07/2017 19:30

I worry banana note means yellow foamy banana sweet. Sad

PerfumeIsAMessage · 13/07/2017 22:59

MrsC your proposed potion sounds right up my olfactory street.
I have just (for the second night running) been looking after 25 adorable Chinese 10 yr olds who keep flooding showers and accidentally setting off fire alarms in the process.
Was pondering some of the Library of Fragrance 7 ml sale items. I know they aren't very complex but sometimes (like on an Infusions d'Iris day) you need linear simplicity.

And others you need a good slug of something like Mystere de Rochas. Grin

myshinynewusername · 13/07/2017 23:52

Still investigating the suggestions made further up the thread. Having a hectic time of it atm. Where are you guys buying your samples from?

In the mean time, I have got myself a sample of Byredo Pulp, and I'm in love. I wasn't keen on first spraying (a bit like the smell of cut grass), but then it evolves into the most gorgeous boozy fruity smell. Sadly discontinued though, apparently. :(

Also ordered some PP goodies, so I will have those to try soon too.

Keen to try the perfume with the banana note!

Judydreamsofhorses · 14/07/2017 00:52

SOTD was Heeley Sel Marin. The summer has been so crap here I am already side-eyeing autumn clothes - longing for the September issues - and proper perfume. I need to get some more Mitsouko this year.

Calminaqualm · 14/07/2017 06:19

MrsCocoa, Sira des Indes has a proper banana fruit smell, but as part of a whole lot of other notes as well. I have a big bottle, bought as a blind buy in the early days of my perfume journey, and thought I might have made a mistake at first, it was so different. I have tested it again just now and I get baby poo, banana, pink pepper and spice in the top notes (Fragrantica tells me that the spice is cardamom). It develops into a creamy, sweet perfume with orange blossom and floral notes which I assume must be the champaca (I need to test champaca separately to be sure). It dries down with sandalwood and a bit of musk but for me the sweet creamy floral banana stays all the way through. It definitely needs to be tested first, but I am so pleased I have a big bottle!

Mrsmartell08 · 14/07/2017 06:45

Last day of term!!
Whoo hoo!
Sotd will prob be sun moon stars

Calminaqualm · 14/07/2017 07:58

Sarah McCartney is selling off some of her Wall of Scent perfumes. The link is on the 4160Tuesdays Facebook page. Many of them have already been reserved, but she is going to put more up. What with the half-price weekly deal, the Naughty Cupboard and now this, they're doing their best to bankrupt me!

OCSockOrphanage · 14/07/2017 09:28

Bastille Day greetings for anyone in France. Watching my mail box and wondering when my samples might land. somehow the delivery of a back scrubber which will come today doesn't lift the spirits in quite the same way. Heeley Chypre 21 today, it starts with a quick burst of petitgrain and bergamot, then develops with neroli and oakmoss. It's a bit reminiscent of the original version of Y, but more complex. Great for autumn, and it's a bit grey this morning.

Mrsmartell08 · 14/07/2017 17:49

I went with nightmusk in the end....school assembly so didn't want to overpower anyone.
Will take either lace or nightmusk away next week...my smallest bottles!

Mrsmartell08 · 14/07/2017 17:49

That sounds lovely sock

Pestilentialone · 14/07/2017 19:18

No SoTD here, too busy feeling sorry for myself after maiming my finger on a mandolin. Sad
