Hey Pest- how's it going - have missed you! Have broken open sock drawer today to sniff 'a bit of a sod' while the sun is still shining. Am rather pleasedSmile. Floral notes and vetiver/sandalwood base are gently in evidence now after mulching down time. Bit of a thrill, under 4160 Sarah' s expert guidance, to have come away with something that approximates to the brief (green/fresh & uplifting summery & earthy). Good result for an afternoon, especially when I read that ER spent 2 1/2 years composing the original Eau Sauvage (which also featured industrial quantities of hedione)Smile.

Are you subject to a restraining order of some sort that you haven't told us about?Grin

explodingkittens · 01/09/2017 18:54

Thanks for all the Flowers - unfortunately I felt well enough to go into work this morning, boooo! Hope everyone else is fighting off the lurgy too. SOTD is Nuit De Bakelite again, love this but only have a few squirts left...

I feel the need for a mooch around the Liberty beauty hall and Les Senteurs...House of Fraser just ain't cutting it these days!

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/09/2017 20:19

kittens glad you're feeling better. I am so glad it's Friday. SOTD was Narciso Rodriguez for Her, but have had a second shower and put pjs on now, so it's Mitsouko for bedtime.

MrsMacNally · 01/09/2017 21:08

Anyone seen what this week's half price perfume at 4160s is?

ThreeSangriasFloor · 01/09/2017 21:31

Glad you're feeling better kittens. I'm on the mend now, too...but wouldn't you know, my DS has come down with my lurgies .
He is due back at (residential) school on Tuesday, so hopefully he'll be better by then .

Dont laugh...but SOTD was Beyonce Rise. I acquired it from a student at work who bought it for me for Christmas (cutie). I hadnt even taken off the cellophane until today, but couldn't decide what to wear this morning and impulse-spritzed it on both wrists.

Its pretty good! Lemony-spicy and then dries down to something similar to Pure Poison, sort of soapy, powdery white floral. I could definitely see myself wearing it as an office fragrance. Who'd have thunk it?

Oh, and tried Black Opium! Ridiculous that its pitched as an Opium flanker, I agree. But I like it! Vanilla cappuccino. I wouldn't drink it (I'm a black Americano kinda gal Grin), but its very comforting. I tried the EDT, though, and the longevity is appalling. May get a sample of the EDP and see how I go...

Happy Friday, Perfumistas!

Calmwhoknows · 01/09/2017 22:00

MrsMac, the half price 4160Tuesdays perfume this week is Shazam!

There is frankincense in Incense Rose, but looking at Fragrantica it has other incense ingedients as well, so I have no idea if what I'm smelling is mainly frankincense. It doesn't smell like CDG Avignon which, although I can appreciate, I could never wear as it is far too much of a churchy incense to me (gives me the willies 😱). I think I need to go on a Perfume Society smelling workshop to be able to distinguish between the different kinds of incense, resins etc!

I think my sense of smell is developing into strange directions. I have been using Wil-co anti-bacterial floor wipes today. They have quite a peculiar smell but are strangely attractive !!! - not the usual industrial lemony chemicals. Looking at the ingredients they contain benziso- something and benzalko- something, so maybe some sort of benzoin?

MrsMacNally · 01/09/2017 23:05

Thanks Calm - that's a relief, am already well stocked (a desert island choice I don't ever want to be without...).

Yes, think frankincense is the really churchy incense (more so than myrrh). I do particularly love it, so its one of the things I'm better at picking out. Think I'm just going to have to visit Les Scenteurs and sniff all the Tauers they stock - they carry another incense of his too I think?
Grin

Calmwhoknows · 02/09/2017 07:52

Yes, there are a couple more Tauer incenses, Incense Flash and Incense Extreme. I didn't smell either of them, so have no idea what they're like.

If you succumb to the temptation of the floor wipes (btw they are in a green and white packet), it will be a bit cheaper than Les Senteurs, MrsMac. They're only £1! Mind you, calculating the cost per hour of the Incense Rose, it's almost a bargain as it lasts more than 12 hours!

MrsMacNally · 02/09/2017 09:02

Those Bloom packs look positively educational! Will aim to try out the labdanum and/or other resin options at some point this autumn....

MrsMacNally · 02/09/2017 10:08

Calm - be very careful with those sorts of calculations...Shock

Whilst we're talking aroma chemicals, I found a bottle of Stergene (the smell of my childhood security blanket!) in Home Bargains. But it doesn't smell very much of anything in it's current (travel wash) reincarnation which is a bit heart-breaking...(.Another reason to worship LT was that he lamented it's passing too).

Anyone limbering up to start the new thread....ideas for names?

MrsMacNally · 02/09/2017 10:16

*its (sorry for lowering the tone again...).

PerfumeIsAMessage · 02/09/2017 15:45

Hello all, not worn any perfume for 3 days as have banging headache, undoubtedly brought on by staying at my cousin's and doing the Visiting Elderly Parent thing. Even the fact that I am sleeping in her daughter's bedroom which is full of perfume isn't enticing me.
Love frankincense... Neal's Yard face cream is one of my staples. I don't find it too churchy.. and living in Italy I get a lot of churchy incense Grin
What was funny about Somerset House was that I put "Tauer?" For about 4 of the real heavy incensey perfumes, then "smells like a watered down Tauer" for LADDM!

Judydreamsofhorses · 02/09/2017 19:51

SOTD is FM Hiver for a day of reading in the garden. Now looking forward to X Factor and takeaway pizza.

BluebellGal · 03/09/2017 09:39

Love all your tips and enabling! I must visit Les Senteurs soon - never been.

I also went to Somerset house and loved it - couldn't name a single perfume. But did find out I really like Iris. I loved the last setting - I found the perfume so evocative of my childhood (not sure I'd wear it though). I didn't understand the room setting for the Tauer - what's the connection with paint? The other room settings all made sense. Also memories of school corridors circa 1994 came rushing back with one sniff of the CKOne!

SOTD yesterday was Agonist white oud - lasted all day and still getting faint whiffs this morning. Need to try their other perfumes as this is the longest lasting perfume I've ever worn.

How about something autumn themed for new thread? A great time of year as we can dig out the cosier and warmer perfumes

teta · 03/09/2017 10:21

Can I interject and say that Silences is a fantastic Galbanum perfume.I bought it on the strength of the discussion up-thread as I adore green florals. Its redolent of the freshness and sappiness of late spring/early summer .I don't pick up any resemblance to No. 19, but it's definitely similar to Safari.Mine is a modern bottle and it's pretty gentle, but I would love to try the vintage.
My choice for early autumn would be Hiram Green Dilettante. Its a totally natural warm, rich indolic Orange Blossom would be perfect for Autumn.Ive been wearing it on cold nights and it's just so different and really lasts.

BluebellGal · 03/09/2017 11:19

No idea what galbanum is but I'm not overly keen on green fragrances so this might not be for me? I really want to go on a smelling workshop!

Did anyone else get the John Lewis luxury perfume sample set posted to them. How do they know I'm a perfumista? I think I've only ever purchased 1 perfume from them (but loads of other stuff - I'm a regular there!). They claim they are the bestsellers- interesting that there is no Chanel in there or Lady million - thought that was the bestselling perfume.

BluebellGal · 03/09/2017 11:21

SOTD is Shay and blue Dandelion Fig- smells of a fragrant garden with tomatoes and figs. Reminds me of some JM blends

OCSockOrphanage · 03/09/2017 11:48

It's a very wet Sunday here in the far west, and a dip in the sample drawer brought up Sahara Noir dupe for the second time this week. It's my day off from SockDog duties but it's looking like a return to the wet weather gear for the next 10 days. There are days when I wish I didn't have a forecast.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 03/09/2017 12:10

Bluebell- I was surprised at how lively I thought the CK1 was. Don't think I'd ever smelled it before but really liked it.
I know it was discussed way up thread when the exhibition began, but I was surprised at some of the choices for the decades.

ThreeSangriasFloor · 03/09/2017 12:12

Samsara for me today. Slightly hungover and about to brave The Big Food Shop. Gawd help me.

BluebellGal · 03/09/2017 13:25

Piam- yep I agree about the choice for each decade (must have been difficult to select just one though) but was just wondering how did you manage to escape CK One in the 90s?! I think half the young people I knew wore it (at school and older cousins). It was ubiquitous and game changing for the industry but wasn't sure whether I liked it or it just brought back scent memories. Interesting to hear you (objectively) liked it. I do remember perfume being a BIG THING at school. We would spend hours sniffing the bottles on the glass table in Bodyshop!

We need a new thread!

MrsMacNally · 03/09/2017 17:29

New thread

explodingkittens · 03/09/2017 17:41

Oh dear. I have discovered Ebay perfumeries. This is bad. Very bad indeed Grin

I've ordered 2 or 3ml samples of the following:

JHAG - Citizen Queen
Chanel - Bel Respiro
Miller Harris - Cassis en Feuille
L'artisan Parfumeur - Skin on Skin
L'artisan Parfumeur - Amour Nocturne

I have no idea about any of these scents but am looking forward to giving them a go! Have also got my eye on several 'vintage' items, including some Diorella, Je Reviens, 24 Faubourg and EL Private Collection. This is turning out to be an expensive addiction...but so rewarding.
