On a roll with last weekend's bargains...which is bringing much needed comfort and light relief after an awful week at work.

One of the miniatures is YSL's Y which I've been looking out for for ages - and it is marvellous. Opens with a big green whoosh (aldehydes/galbanum/hyacinth and a hint of narcissus) but then rather than fading away a la Givenchy III, you get a rich, soft plummy rose, backlit by civet (Femme all over again), before a soapy mossy dry-down.

I want a full bottle (I don't feel that very often these days). Especially as I've just reapplied and dropped it Sad. Not smashed but I've lost a lot of the contents. There is a downside with miniatures and those fiddly plugs ...

Green was it you who observed that this was clearly named before the age of search engines? If anyone spots a vintage bottle going at reasonable price please let me know....

Badders123 · 03/06/2017 19:58

Ds2 a fan of RG too!

VintagePerfumista · 03/06/2017 20:01

Y is something I've been meaning to try as the description always sounds right up my street.

MrsCocoa · 03/06/2017 20:12

I'm slathered in it tonight as I had to try and apply all of the spill and it is fabulous VP. Desert Island list good....

FloofyCat · 03/06/2017 21:00

MrsCocoa what about this one? On app so hope it links!

VINTAGE YVES SAINT LAURENT Y ,EAU DE TOILETTE SPRAY 75ML,FREE P&P

Badders it's you buying all the Lace, is it? Grin I have my eye on some White Satin.

SOTD Elizabeth Arden Green Tea (the one with cherry blossom, naturally!) and the accompanying scent of sunburn (FFS)

ThreeForAPound · 03/06/2017 22:54

Fresh Blossom has shit longevity. I literally doused myself in it at lunchtime and by 4pm it was gone.

I'm wearing Poeme tonight. Just waved off my in-laws after a marathon boozy dinner. Needed some comfort Grin

Auldspinster · 03/06/2017 23:35

I've got Y and Femme. Am a bit of a chypre fan. Mitsouko was my first non mainstream scent in 1998.

MrsCocoa · 03/06/2017 23:40

Thanks Floofy Flowers (and Green Flowers)

Pallisers · 03/06/2017 23:44

I'm wearing Poeme tonight.

So dh travels a lot, gets bored in the duty free and loves to buy me perfume. I am wearing L'eau Dissay and Pleasures at the moment. Have some other stuff but those are the ones I like. Normally I tell him don't get me anything but based on a post on MN (not this thread I think) I asked him for Poeme. He comes back with f-ing Chanel No 5. I hate the stuff. Smells like cheap drug store perfume on me and to me. I gave the last bottle he gave me to my cleaning lady and explained it just didn't work on me. This one will head her way too.

But he told me Poeme is discontinued? Is that true?

MrsCocoa · 04/06/2017 00:13

Auld - classics! Wish my taste had been that discerning in 1998... What else do you like? It's funny, I never seem to smell much of the oakmoss with Femme. More musky, light balsams and that creamy plum.

Auldspinster · 04/06/2017 02:07

Where to start! All the aforementioned Guerlain classics, also fond of Rochas scents - Madame Rochas; Tocade; Rochas Absolu as well as Femme. Lagerfeld era Chloe. Only got Feminite du Bois but love Ambre Sultan. Love leathers Cabouchard; Bandit; Cuir de Lancome and Jolie Madame by Balmain. Also love green perfumes like the original Ivorie de Balmain and Fidji. My favorite aldehydes are Rive Gauche and Arpege. Finally big blowsy 80s scents like Ysatis and Knowing and tarts boudoir scents like Agent Provocateur Strip, Opium, Magie Noir, Cinnabar and Bal a'Versailles.

I have a lot of perfume!

Dlpdep · 04/06/2017 08:17

I had a lovely day with my little DD yesterday. She has been making 'perfumes' using water and flower petals. So instead of just throwing them out like most mums I have been telling her about different notes and we went to smell a 'proper' green - Chanel 19. Of course, she went straight back to Bonbon because of the bottle. Am I crazy to be considering buying a bottle of it for a 6 year old? I must see can I get a tester anywhere. She does have her own bottle of perfume - a primary one called glamorous which is half way between flowerbomb and coco mademoiselle. She has the perfume bug early!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 04/06/2017 09:01

I can beat that! When dd was about 18 months, my local cheap shop had little bottles of the Jeans scents (I want to say gaultier) she had her own bottle of Baby Rose Jeans. When we were going out she'd tilt her neck to have a dab. It was a slippery slope.
It's a lot cooler today, so I am craving something with a bit of warmth to it. Might be a L'aimant day!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 04/06/2017 09:03

Versace, of course.

Badders123 · 04/06/2017 09:05

Auld....i like a lot of those!! Esp the tarts ones 🤣
I like a lot.of guerlains but only like....havent found one I love yet
Knowing is my scent for winter/autumn 👍
I'm in RG atm - along with lots of others on this thread!
My niece is 5 and I'm dithering over buying her some perfume from lush for her 6th b day...wpulz be interested to hear others thoughts.. .
Sotd yesterday was RG
Not sure today - might be white satin
LOVE the old yardleys!!

Auldspinster · 04/06/2017 09:17

I've got a lovely delicate lemon perfume from Primark of all places, called Lemon Sorbet, only £2 a bottle.

Sotd is Roger et Gallet Bambou again as it was closest to hand when i was dashing out the door at the ungodly hour of 6.25 this morning.

Auldspinster · 04/06/2017 09:20

I've got a bottle of Mouchoir de Monsieur by Guerlain which i bought cos it's the masculine version of Jicky which i also have and love but it's way to masculine for me to wear. Need to find a lovely man to offload it onto.

Another chypre i forgot to mention is Sonia Rykiel woman, very much in the spirit of Femme and Y with great lasting power, it's the 1993 version with the square bottle top.

Auldspinster · 04/06/2017 09:26

Too, not to masculine, doh!

Badders123 · 04/06/2017 09:54

I had a perfume years ago from miss selfridge called something like soft touch?
I got so many compliments on it!
I bought it as something cheap to wear to a family wedding in Ireland.
Some fab cheap perfumes out there as well as the £££ ones
My big disappointment is lush perfumes...I don't like any of them :(
I'm not sure if it's his they are made but they all smell a bit...off to me?

MrsCocoa · 04/06/2017 10:17

Thanks for the inspiration Auld - good to triangulate with others with similar tastes....

Love & peace to everyone this morning Flowers

GreenPolishToGo · 04/06/2017 11:45

And to you MrsC Flowers. I hope everyone has a gentle Sunday.Flowers

Best of luck with the Y hunt and I shall keep an eye out. It really is a beauty and would be a candidate for my Desert Island Sniffs if only it hadn't been bumped off by others with rather more memories linked to them.

Pallisers Poeme is still available from the Lancome website but I believe it's not at very many shop counters any more. It's a long, long time since I tried Chanel No 5 but my DM and I used to hate it.

Auld what an amazing collection!

My DD has a collection to rival mine and is acquiring some very expensive tastes - most of 4160 Tuesdays offerings to start with. I can't think where she gets it from...Wink

Badders Lush's Sun is a pleasant citrus that might suit your niece. Or, there's always Katy Perry's Meow and Purr - you remember the stuff you went shopping for with Mme LePen! The bottles are very cute and, although pink, they aren't in the minger class.

Yesterday's sample was Shiseido Ever Bloom. If tempted, don't, really, really don't. I don't think it should be worn by anyone out of their teens. DD didn't think it should be worn by anyone over 10. It is a superb example of a pink minger. I had to scrub it off and soothe my offended nose with lovely Atelier Cologne Bergamote Soleil.

Off for another lucky dip in the samples. Hope I fare better today!

Oh gawd, yes! The infamous le penn dream!
That night suit actually. She is the most pink glittery girly girl ever :)
After saying I don't like any lush perfume I've just realised I'm currently wearing twilight body spray!
It's gorgeous and comforting which is needed today :(

Badders123 · 04/06/2017 11:57

Chanel no 5 smells like cat pee to me...I'm obv not a true perfumista!
I don't like any chanels actually. A friend of mine wore coco years ago....I could just about stomach that one.

Badders123 · 04/06/2017 11:58

If any of you insomniacs I really recommend lush twilight body spray and shower gel...fabulous.

Auldspinster · 04/06/2017 12:41

The only Chanel i have is Coco Mademoiselle and that's cos my mum gave me her bottle as she never wears it.

I love No.19 but have so many greens that i can't bring myself to shell out for it and my Cristalle needs have now been met by Yardley Jade.

Does anyone like Clarins Eau des Jardins? It's lovely and fruity without being sweet, in the same ball park as Pampelune.
