GreenPolish Thanks for the link. I am pet sitting this weekend so bit of time to check out those websites too. Perfume, and smell in general, makes me so happy. I would like to know a bit more about it.

VintagePerfumista · 02/06/2017 09:00

How could I have forgotten Raiders of the Lost Scent! I spend a lot of time there!

Bank hol here, so off to pick cherries for MIL. Think will stick with Rive Gauche as am once more in love with it, even if it is PP.

I love how one of us starts something off and we all baa-baa for a week or so Grin (obvs smelling a lot nicer than wet sheep!)

Auldspinster · 02/06/2017 10:04

Sotd is Roger & Gallet Bambou.

ThreeForAPound · 02/06/2017 10:52

Welcome Disastrous!

And thanks, Green. Have bookmarked some of the blogs mentioned and put a couple of the books in my Amazon basket for later Grin.

SOTD is my PP dupe for Creed Spring Flower. I loved this when it first arrived, but today its quite dry and harsh and has a weird smell of chalk Shock. Its supposed to have top notes of peach and apple with a bit of musk, but all I can smell is chalk dust Grin.

Might be to do with my time of the month...

Off to Aldi to do a monster shop for lunch tomorrow with my visiting American in-laws. Give me strength...

Badders123 · 02/06/2017 14:01

Sotd is RG again
But my yardley white satin came today so I might have a spray of that later...
It started off so nice here today and now it's grey and raining :(
My sister has some of that red baker spray.. it's very pleasant

ThreeForAPound · 02/06/2017 14:25

Badders, whats White Satin like? I'm still bowler over by Jade and can't believe Yardley made such a great fragrance.

Vintage...I'm such a bloody sheep, its ridiculous! But I don't baaaaa for any old person. Only for the Perfumistas thread-ers Grin.

Badders123 · 02/06/2017 14:37

I think it's lovely three
A floral musk is prob the best description
I'm still trying to get mt hands on some lace!

ThreeForAPound · 02/06/2017 15:14

Floral musk = sounds bloody great

Dlpdep · 02/06/2017 15:20

I got a present of a Ted baker set for Xmas, and the body spray is very acceptable!

MoonHare · 02/06/2017 15:23

Hello can any of you lovely perfume experts help me?

My one 'signature' scent and the only perfume I've ever really loved is Estee Lauder 'Dazzling Silver' but it was discontinued a few years ago. I managed to get a large bottle off the internet a couple of years back and with sparing use it has lasted well but not for much longer......

Can anyone recommend something else I might like that's similar? I keep venturing into perfume shops and hanging around beauty counters but there's so much out there I don't know where to start!

ThreeForAPound · 02/06/2017 15:59

The young assistant in my office wears the Ted Baker spray and I asked her what it was a few weeks back as it caught my nose in a good way.

MrsCocoa · 02/06/2017 17:52

Happy days - the Magie is here. Still in the first hour or so, but so far it's like Femme crossed with L'Heure Bleue - in a good way. It has Femme's intimate and cosy musky-amber notes with L'HB's powdery violets. Powder fiends - this is worth keeping an eye out for. Got a little 5ml bottle of pure parfum for a fiver - a little drop seems to go a very long way...

And on my right wrist...is Eau Neuve de Lubin. 60ml in lovely original 60s packaging for a similar amount. A cologne; citrus, green herbs (including a really vibrant thyme) and lavender, with sandalwood and a bit of moss and patchouli underneath. This is really lovely stuff - not sure of it's longevity yet... Similar but superior to Eau Vive, Carven. Eau du Sud lovers should look for this - it's softer, but hits a similar spot.

EBay - all is forgiven Grin.

Badders123 · 02/06/2017 17:56

I've been on e bay buying vintage bags instead of perfume....feels weird!

Badders123 · 02/06/2017 18:00

Moon...hello.
Hmmm not one I'm familiar with but I think if you like that you would prob like Estée
Or even real old school....l'air du temps?
There is some available on eBay but ££££
I know only too well the sheer horrror and sadness at ones signature being discontinued....hope you manage to find a replacement

Badders123 · 02/06/2017 18:02

Mmmm....Magie noire you say?.....

MrsCocoa · 02/06/2017 18:27

Badders no, Magie is earlier - it's a huge powdery amber, rather than MN which is more of a deep green wood?

Badders123 · 02/06/2017 18:35

Mmmmm....
Powdery...
I've just bid on some bloody Lou Lou...it's like an 80s wormhole :)

MrsCocoa · 02/06/2017 20:11

Think you'd like it Badders - step away from the bags Grin

MrsCocoa · 02/06/2017 20:23

That's spooky Badders - I also collected 6 x 80s miniatures (mainly new 7.5 mls today, including Lou Lou! No wrists left, but had a quick sniff - instant time travel! (Also Paloma Picasso, Y, Opium, Lauren, EL Pleasures).

I bought for the first four - Lou Lou and Pleasures are not really my bag, so if anyone fancies a swap, do PM me.

GreenPolishToGo · 03/06/2017 00:37

Baa baa baa! Yep, SOTD was Rive Gauche and what a thing of beauty it is despite the funny can. Definitely a Desert Island Sniffs runner-up here.

Hello MoonHare. I haven't found much on Dazzling Silver but a couple of perfumes are mentioned as being similar in the reviews on Fragrantica so they might be worth a try. And do keep an eye out for it on Ebay. Don't pay any attention to the buy it now listings because the prices are usually absurd, but I've seen it go for auction at reasonable prices several times when I've been looking for other Estee Lauders.

Magie sounds lovely, MrsC and what a find. The bottle I had in my watch list a while ago went for a great deal more than a fiver. Is there any resemblance to Magie Noire (gorgeous witchy, deepest forest green chypre), do you think? Or were they just cashing in on the name?

Handbags Badders!? Sounds scary - I've seen the bag threads - perfumes are pocket money by comparison!

I am happy and skint because 4160 Tuesdays half price scent of the week is Inevitable Crimes of Passion, which is utterly beautiful and one I have wanted a lot ever since I got a sample of it in my Christmas present Advent calendar. Only it is one of the pricier ones normally. So at half price it just had to be snapped up. Grin

Badders123 · 03/06/2017 09:25

Ah....not designer bags (is have to sell a kidney!) But a 1950s retro bag
£25
Not bad
So glad you are all loving the RG too!
Baaa baaa 🐑

MrsCocoa · 03/06/2017 09:30

Green - haven't managed to read around it yet, and (sadly) I don't have any Magie Noire here for direct comparisons. But Magie feels every inch a peer of Femme; it's animalic notes are softly sensual. I guess it reflects the era's (40s/early 50s) feminine ideals? (Need to see what Babs H says!) But that doesn't make it any less wonderful. It evolves in a really pleasing way (less linear and more interesting than Femme, and without the fruitiness) and the later stages are all about amber. From memory, Magie Noire is less cosy and more challenging; a beautiful deep green mossy chypre?

VintagePerfumista · 03/06/2017 10:00

I am in RG again too. Grin

Watching (again) the German Eau du Sud seller who seems to have a lot of Annick Goutals going for about half of what I'd expect. I missed the 24 euro EdS last week, and this. Now he has another one listed. Bit odd, but seems legit. Some of them are listed as not full (and you can see they aren't quite, so am guessing testers- which is fine)

Dd went clubbing last night for the first time Shock (end of middle school dance, really, but held in a "club" lol) and wore Bergamot Soleil which is one of the few Ateliers that have really grabbed me.

Badders123 · 03/06/2017 14:22

I won some lace!!
😁

ThreeForAPound · 03/06/2017 15:57

All your bidding and winning is very exciting Grin.

I haven't got to the vintage perfume stage yet. I'm saving it up for when I'm more knowledagble and know what I want.

SOTD is DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom. Its one of those light, fruity florals I wear on Spring/Summer days when I don't know what to wear. Poor longevity, though.
