NUFC69 · 20/04/2017 22:29

Glad to hear it went well, BTM. It's sad to lose someone like that, but he obviously lived a good life from what you have said.

Hatty, sorry to hear about the new shootings in Paris; I will be thinking about you all.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 20/04/2017 22:48

Evening All.
Yay for one down for dd CV - cross that one off the list!

Funeral / wake sounds a good one (iykwim) BTM and how lovely that dd came with you.

Loving your cobblers Beachy!

What's Up MI?? What's with all the talk of novel binning?? Are you OK? realise it's only a year or so since you lost your Mum and how complicated that all sounds for you - but that draft novel is an ACHIEVEMENT - be proud of your hard work lovely.

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/04/2017 23:32

Spoke to my mother today. Said I would go and see her on Saturday. She wants me to stay over. I don't want to stay over, otherwise it is the whole of the weekend messed up and I won't feel like I have had a break. I don't really want to go on Saturday - I have had a horrible busy week and am knackered, but chances of any leave over next couple of weeks v low.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 20/04/2017 23:36

Do what you can do Mrs S - just because she wants you to stay doesn't mean you should / have to. Tell her what you can and will do and don;t feel bad about it. How is she generally?

IDismyname · 20/04/2017 23:42

Rudy Thanks for asking, but home 'life' is pretty sh*te atm. Would much prefer to solve paint and bench dilemmas for you on MN.

Took myself off FB as a result of local stuff being posted which upset me hugely. However it coincided with TM announcing General Election so everyone thought it was that. That's probably given me another 20 mins a day to spend on here!

Beachy Bravo my girl! Looks lush.

( So what's the outcome of village AGM? Does DH have another job??)

CV that salmon dish reminds me of a Mary Berry one she did with leeks and Yuzu dressing. It looked worth a go.

I counted 28 (XXVIII) jars in my fridge, and that's after having thrown 4 away. Shock

I have written a stern list on the door of fridge banning any new jar opening for the foreseeable future.

IDismyname · 20/04/2017 23:47

MI why not save your work (maybe twice) on a couple of memory sticks, and then delete from your PC? (Disclaimer : check you've transferred them first!)

Then put them in the back of a drawer for a few months. Out of sight. Out of mind.

Or print it all out, and shred it (after memory stick transferral).

Anyway, some kind of 'disposing' of the work without actually disposing of it IYSWIM?

Am I making sense at all??

hattymattie · 21/04/2017 06:30

God Marine is going to get in at this rate Sad.

Blackduck · 21/04/2017 06:46

BTM glad the funeral went well.

MI don't bin/delete - you will regret it.

I missed a job ad for something I really wanted to do - am very annoyed about it and annoyed at myself. Think I need to get a grip on things...

motherinferior · 21/04/2017 07:52

I'm not going to bin it. I was always going to keep some kind of copy (I have a lot of versions saved) but I was in a total state about it. (Really quite disproportionately exhausted and weepy.) just realising how much work it needs AGAIN and I feel like such a failure. Which means I am a failure because I have always identified with the words I put on the page - they are me, what I am. I feel like once again I have to roll this huge bloody boulder uphill - it's a structural thing, it means work, endless trying it one way and then another and then going back to the beginning - and just slogging it out. I feel vv stuck. But honestly, leaving it won't get that work done. Only the process of doing it will manage that.

But I just feel HERE WE BLOODY GO AGAIN and it's very tiring. Not to speak of having hoped the last go would do it, and it hasn't.

bigTillyMint · 21/04/2017 07:55

Woops, BD - is it really too late to apply?

I have matchsticks propping my eyelids up this morning - very late return and then DH sniffing and snorting all night (worse than usual) due to a cold...

Interesting for DD to hear my DGodF's sons all say the same things about my DM and how she was in our childhoods - shows it was not all a figment of my imagination! So lucky to have had their DF and DM in my life as a child/teen - they gave me something to aspire to in my life Smile

Blackduck · 21/04/2017 08:14

Yes :(
Someone was supposed to send me the details and they didn't. My ex supervisor is annoyed, but doesn't think they can do anything.

CointreauVersial · 21/04/2017 08:23

How irritating, BD. Maybe worth rushing in an application??

Cloud - I just read that they've shelved the plans to increase probate fees (aka stealth inheritance tax), which was due to happen in May - I know you were rushing to get DF's probate sorted.

Lalsy · 21/04/2017 08:25

Cloud, tough on jar opening, tough on the causes of jar opening? Sorry about things at home - we are here.

MI, I do hear you but people do put novels aside - not saying you should now or in the future - but you can if you want to. The words won't change; everything else may. You are not a failure and you are not just one endeavour. Flowers

BD, oh no.

BTM, he sounds wonderful. I am sorry.

Blackduck · 21/04/2017 08:28

They have already shortlisted.

Bum bum bum....

Trying to be positive but it's a blow.

magimedi · 21/04/2017 08:32

BD - no chance of a late application?

Hatty - it is so worrying.

StillLostDaddy · 21/04/2017 08:33

I cannot for the life of me, figure out what this thread is about?!?!

magimedi · 21/04/2017 08:48

It's about everything............... and nothing much as well. Grin

motherinferior · 21/04/2017 09:55

Hatty, it is terrible, isn't it.

BD, any chance your supervisor could pull strings/rank?

I really do feel quite flattened.

wordassociationfootball · 21/04/2017 10:03

MI - if you know this structural re-write will make the book better, then roll up sleeves. Start pushing boulder.

wordassociationfootball · 21/04/2017 10:08

Crem - sincerely hoping that two jabs and upped meds are the THING.

I said 'f a duck!' when I read your Madeira birds nest thing.

Cauli sounds yum, Herbs.

Am off to have camera down throat so they can see me swallow and work out how tightly to make my stomach pretend to be my oesophegal valve. Bet that's put you all off your biccies, soz. I ain't having anything to eat til about midday (starvo)

BD you must be fed up.

motherinferior · 21/04/2017 10:08

Yes, well I have to overhaul and devise the entire new structure. I am quite aware of this but as I have a three-person narrative with a fair amount of retrospective in it too, that is quite a jigsaw puzzle. I can do it - after all I've done it to this stage - but I now need to take it apart and reassemble it so it runs more smoothly!

hattymattie · 21/04/2017 10:12

BD - see if you can get a late application in - is there somebody who can pull strings for you,? - you have nothing to lose.

Crem - Angry at squeezing ball.

It is a beautiful day and have had a lovely gym session with friends. If I think about politics I get the feeling we are about to enter into some sort of dystopian, Orwellian period. Had to walk through soldiers with machine guns to get into the school yesterday (it is an international one so I guess high risk - although you'd risk pissing everybody off by attacking it including the Russians and the Chinese).

MM - did your son get his papers through yet? I have a friend who has been waiting for a year ...

hattymattie · 21/04/2017 10:13

Just realised - I've written the same as MI to BD about pulling strings etc Blush.
