On way to my long awaited hospital appointment about my hip. Naturally, it is not hurting at all, and hasn't been for a while. But thought I'd go anyway snd 'get in the system' in case it comes back. I'm hoping it will start to give me gyp on the long walk twixt station and Royal London.

In s&b news, I have been scanning the shoes of my colleagues to see if anyone wears trainers, of the smart variety. None for two days, then result today - groovy plimsolls on teacher talking about Buddhism.

herbaceous · 20/04/2017 14:40

'Touch if arthritis' appaz. The he good news is, also apparently, I'm not 'massively' overweight.

FFS.

motherinferior · 20/04/2017 14:52

My finger is hovering over the 'delete' key with my novel...

herbaceous · 20/04/2017 15:01

Step away. Put down the keyboard. Have faith.

BeachysSandyFlipflops · 20/04/2017 15:10

Herbs, I could have told you that you are not overweight at all, and I'm not a consultant or anything!

Don't delete, MI..... just leave it to stew for a bit.

CV, dreadful news about the accident. He does sound very positive on the reports I've heard....

Here, dawdling and avoidance of revision continues. Can't wait for him to go back to school actually, as the lack of structure is the worst bit. Also means we are closer to the end of exams Wink

motherinferior · 20/04/2017 15:12

I've left it for over a month while I get feedback. I can't leave it any longer.

Rosebag · 20/04/2017 15:32

Best advice I've had MI is not to listen to too many voices (actually came from an artistic director) ...you get to that point...do not, REPEAT NOT, delete. Own it as you want it. I realised that there were red lines over which I wouldn't cross with the play...even if the changes suggested in feedback were supposed to make it more likely to be put into production. STEP AWAY.

magimedi · 20/04/2017 15:37

DO NOT DELETE!

Just hide it away somewhere but such a waste to just send it into the ether.

Knee is improving & physio seems to be helping.

Vacuum bag is still holding up - just went into that cupboard & noticed it.

Cremolafoam · 20/04/2017 16:17

MI please don't throw it out. Even if you never show it, you can learn from it, surely.😓Leave it for a couple of weeks.
Magi you make me larf.
Herbs flipsake. Overweight my arse. actually it is Grin but you are not.
Been and got eyebrows tamed.
Waiting for gp now.Sad

MI, you can leave it longer, of course you can. And people do. Step away, forget it, do something mindlessly satisfying or constructive.

motherinferior · 20/04/2017 16:21

No, really, I can't leave it. I need to do something with it or bin it. Leaving it won't change anything. It won't mean that inspiration suddenly transforms it while I'm not looking!

Lalsy · 20/04/2017 16:37

I think you can - your feelings may change, you may have fresh perspectives, a chance conversation or experience. People do put novels aside and come back to them much later. Send it to one of us for safekeeping if you like but don't do something now you may regret.

Rosebag · 20/04/2017 16:38

MI you need it brought to life. It's lonely staring at the page. I must arrange this literary reading evening that I am always threatening to do...

herbaceous · 20/04/2017 16:38

But what more do you gain from binning it than you would be just leaving it? Temporary satisfaction of 'something' being done, but much more potential for regret. Are you still awaiting feedback? What is the harm of continuing to wait?

hattymattie · 20/04/2017 16:45

MI - you would definitely regret binning it - do not do this. Maybe leave it 6 months and then go back to it with an entirely fresh perspective.

Herbs - I got told I had arthritis in my knee and it was normal in someone of my age. Sometimes I'd rather just not know!

OK - mac cheese tonight - was going to do this last night but had leftover cheese cake and thought mac cheese followed by cheese cake might be overkill. So, mac cheese followed by strawberries.

motherinferior · 20/04/2017 16:59

OK, will press on. Shelving is not an option - I've shelved it for too long already!

NUFC69 · 20/04/2017 18:23

Noooo, MI, you can't bin it! Second, or third, leaving it for six months or so and then re-reading.

We're having Caribbean Chicken tonight which is cooking as I write, followed by strawberries which were incredibly cheap. We had a fruitful shopping expedition and DH got his things for the cycling holiday, but £70 for a pair of cycling shorts. Shock To be fair he did have vouchers which the DC had given him, but still....

MM, good that DH is recovering, so presumably Turkey is still on?

BeachysSandyFlipflops · 20/04/2017 19:07

We're having a weird Taco meat pie with cobblers on top! Finest improvisation stroke freezer dinner.....

Dh has gone to the village AGM - he spends his life moaning about this and that, so I've sent him off on his bike! I bet he comes back with a 'role', a 'responsibility' or is upgraded to being a committee member.....Smile

herbaceous · 20/04/2017 19:13

I've just shared a spicy beef gluten-free pieminster pie with DS. Roasted cauliflower with lemon and paprika for me, chips for him. Plus green beans. DP stranded in Docklands due to non functioning transport.

Having been told I should lose weight by hip doctor, I am of course starving hungry. All this cycling, pacing round a school trying to locate classrooms, and then engaging brain with other humans I'm hoping is rather calorie-hungry.

CointreauVersial · 20/04/2017 19:29

Just me and my gurls here tonight - DS is working, DH out to dinner with Important Visiting Colleages. I'm trying a new salmon recipe involving segments of orange, white wine and thyme, which I'm fully expecting Miss Plain Food DD2 will throw a hissy fit about (there will be much muttering and scraping-off of detritus from the salmon). I'm rather looking forward to it - will report back.

MI - I don't know the answer to your novel predicament (never having been in that position) but binning it doesn't sound like a good plan.

Welcome back, BD, sounds like the break has restored you a little. Hold onto those happy thoughts when you arrive back at your desk.

Assistant has done two full days and hasn't resigned yet. She's on fire and has been cracking on with everything I've thrown at her so far, needing very little guidance. She'll be showing me up at this rate. Blush

herbaceous · 20/04/2017 19:33

In other news, Big Cheese of editorial job I didn't get last year has asked if I'd like to be deputy ed on a freelance basis. Sorry love, too late.

CV - it's a fine balance, employing someone who will make your life easier and not need micromanaging, but at the same time won't show you up!

BeachysSandyFlipflops · 20/04/2017 19:48

Everything looks good with cobbles on the top!

bigTillyMint · 20/04/2017 20:20

Looks good, Beachy!

On the train back from the funeral with DD. The service was very moving - lots of eloquent and heartfelt tributes - such a lovely and much loved man. Thankfully I managed to stop blubbing by the time we got to the wake - beer, food, loads of old photos and his ukulele band playing, plus a catchup with his boys (who are; of course ,my age!) - was a good send off.

CointreauVersial · 20/04/2017 21:41

Sorry, I missed the bit about your DGodF, BTM. Sad Sounds like a lovely send-off.

Salmon was tasty. Now need to chase DD1 into bed - she's shattered after a full day's Art exam, followed by a Drama rehearsal. She actually has a blister on her finger from her paintbrush. Art GCSE is DONE.

Cremolafoam · 20/04/2017 21:42

Mmn Beachy, I bet that's all gone now. Looks lush.

BTM, that sounds Ike a heartwarming sendoff. I'm sure it must have been "gulp in The throat" listening to the ukulele boysSad just lovely.

Gp has upped the thyroid meds, given me an iron jab and this week's B12 for good measure.
Am hoping for great things.

Mi I suspect you are feeing a bit wibbly ATM. Please let us know if we can help.Flowers
