Interesting point Stropps, re f&b paint 🎨, which i think now is indeed formulated differently. Not made of size and worthiness any more. Now made of finely milled middle class folk , slaked with elderflower cordial.ticks much better.

Cloud, hope the day is not too difficult for you. Would The George inn be too far to walk? Good gastro pub food in medieval bar down a lane. < knows nothing>

I am eating this and heartily recommend it. It's completely delicious:
It's Hugh FW's....

Butternut squash curry

This easy curry tastes even better the next day. It's really good cold, too, as part of a packed lunch. Serves four.

4 tbsp sunflower oil
3 onions, peeled, halved and thinly sliced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 garlic cloves, peeled and thinly sliced
2 tsp finely grated fresh ginger
1 small green chilli, halved, deseeded and thinly sliced
2 tsp ground coriander
2 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp garam masala
1 butternut squash, peeled, deseeded and cut into 2cm chunks
100g red lentils, rinsed
About 700ml vegetable stock
400g tinned plum tomatoes
1 big handful fresh coriander, tough stalks removed, leaves chopped

Heat the oil in a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan over a medium heat. Add the onions and sauté with a pinch of salt until softened and turning golden, stirring frequently, about 15 minutes. Add the garlic, ginger and green chilli, and cook, stirring, for about five minutes. Add the ground coriander, cumin and garam masala, stir for a minute, then toss in the cubes of squash and lentils, and stir until well coated. Pour in the stock and tomatoes, crushing the tomatoes against the sides of the pan with a fork to break them up a bit.

Simmer, part-covered, until the squash and lentils are very tender, about 30 minutes, stirring from time to time. Stir in about two-thirds of the coriander, taste and check the seasoning – add salt and pepper if desired. Serve with basmati rice , some thick yoghurt and the rest of the coriander scattered over the top.

Grin at F&B paint recipe Crem. When sis and I first used it, 26 years ago, little bursts of orange, black and white powder exploded on the wall while we were painting. And we were charmed. Twats

Off for a meeting. Sunny but colder than it looks. Will throw on a heat tech before I skip away. Wish I was further on with my work that's due tomorrow.

Your front door sounds assolutely lully Stropps.

wordassociationfootball · 19/04/2017 11:51

Thanks for deets Beachy!

motherinferior · 19/04/2017 13:50

Have been swimming. Consumed the leftover Brie on toast on my return. There was quite a lot of it. Can I have a nap now?

Lalsy · 19/04/2017 14:19

Lovely new thread thank you.

I am taking a break from supplying revision snacks to do and on a train with wifi to see dd to do the same. And stay the night and go to a Hotter shop. Am feeling slightly frazzled that there is loads to talk to ds about - Loads of stuff needs sorting - and just not getting a chance. I have done a gym class and eaten M and S salad, MI, and may join you in a nap as train chugs slowly (but cheaply) down the back route......

Herbs, sounds great, really welcoming.

I would lov a list of non exotic melas too (happy to sort a shareable file if you don't want to post here).

BTM, btw, I thought your Pyrenees plan sounded great. We went near there years ago - think doable at short notice too.

Stropps, get to the doc. If it is side effects of dd and work then at least you know.

hattymattie · 19/04/2017 15:09

Stropps - I think you're probably exhausted - your life seems so full on plus extra worry from certain quarters. I'd have collapsed in a heap ages ago. Worth checking out with the doc though just to be sure.

Beautiful but extremely cold day here. First day of work - glad to be back with the little blighters.

Our front door, for the record, is wood but has never been revarnished since we arrived (15 years ago); with little round glass windows which desperately need a wash as are very dusty (probs were also last washed 15 years ago Blush)

IDismyname · 19/04/2017 15:51

Rudy Not mad at all! Looks pretty low for a bench, anyway...

Plonk some artfully curated books or yesterdays newspapers and some coffee mugs on it, and see how it looks.

(Or are you thinking of purchasing one in the first place? If so, ignore comments above)

Rosebag · 19/04/2017 15:54

Brilliant, brilliant title, Crem !

stropps not surprising you feel worn out. Just read back some of your posts and you'll see what I mean. Flowers

Bloody well done Herbs I'm really glad it's working out for you at last. Star

What else is going on? Strength to all those who are providing revision support. Such a tough gig. DD is getting close to her retakes but I'm not expecting her to pass. If she improves her grades a bit we will surround her with love and admiration. And keep on trucking next year. Luckily, where she is doing her BTEC will allow her to attend classes for as long as she likes. DS2 is lolling with another week before he goes back to Uni. He is supposed to be working for exams but he is obsessed with the forthcoming election and hasn't done a bloody thing. He is also, however tutoring my DNeph who lives in the US, in Spanish, by Skype and earning some money from Dsis so I'd better keep quiet.

I have just got back from chasing some work at a meeting in the Stratford area...but am a bit cross to have run out of time for mooching in Westfield.

Reasons to be cheerful...
One... I have sold a whistles dress on EBay and have posted it, and am about to put a Max Mara dress on. PayPal stash is looking healthy and MU lot can't get their greedy little mitts on it.

Two...Have planted the idea of a few days at the Edinburgh Fringe this summmer and DH is researching possibilities

Three...The weather hereabouts was cold initially but is now beyond beautiful.

Waf I wish curry liked me...sounds very tasty but my gut won't take it...will yours?

Rosebag · 19/04/2017 15:56

My...not MU

Lalsy · 19/04/2017 16:10

Rose, we are going to the Fringe! Last year I booked accommodation (student) on free cancellation deal on booking.com then when I knew dates for sure rebooked bit cheaper without that and cancelled original. Part way through that process for this year. we had a great time last year- five shows a day and some gin cocktails.

Rosebag · 19/04/2017 16:19

That's my idea of heaven, Lalsy I think DH has taken a hold on a couple of rooms at a Premier Inn over the bank holiday. Still up in the air about it but it does appeal.

wordassociationfootball · 19/04/2017 16:28

Just intervened in an incident and been giving police a statement for what feels like hours. Might have stopped an act of random violence and may have to attend court. I feel venerable (crepey!) rather than impulsive, and have spurned offer of a screen between me and putative judge.

Herbs, hope day 2 going well.

IDismyname · 19/04/2017 16:38

WAF Shock - Are you OK?

magimedi · 19/04/2017 17:01

WAF - Another vote for sitting down & taking the rest of the day easy.

herbaceous · 19/04/2017 17:19

Nasty shock, WAF. But glad to see a crepey maintaining moral order.

Second day down and < whispers, not wanting to tempt fate > I'm really enjoying it. Some of the pupils are, ahem, challenging - a giant Romanian boy who speaks no English and whose only interest seems to be chasing girls and selling dodgy cars springs to mind - but most are just lovely. And both they and the teachers really seem to appreciate me being there and throwing my language tuppence in now and again.

Also enjoying school dinners, though may have to knock that on the head if arse expands any more...

Door colour - emerald green, which I v much like, but it desperately needs repainting, as it was a little shabby when we moved in. Eleven years ago.

wordassociationfootball · 19/04/2017 17:20

Screened from nasty piece of work that is. Woukd prefer to give him beady eye...although he was v scary.

Bench idea sounds great Rudy.

I do feel a tiny bit... vibraty in my molecules. And will take it easy yes.

Auriga · 19/04/2017 17:29

Another GP appointment, this time with fast-track neurology referral. Trying to fit in some useful activity between headaches.

Well done on first day, Herbs.

Curry looks good, will try that, thanks WAF.

Feeling desperate about the election. For the first time in my life, I incline towards 'none of the above'. Hoping that DD's energy and enthusiasm will rub off on me.

Visit to Mum's grave on Monday showed our hazel sapling putting out buds and young leaves.

wordassociationfootball · 19/04/2017 18:08

Buds and young leaves.... that's lovely, Auriga.

Cremolafoam · 19/04/2017 18:15

Wonderful picture Auriga.
And good news re an appointment.
TM making me feel sick on the news. Had to google who was the leader of LibDems.Hmm Corbyn like a lion in the commons, but a lamb elsewhere.Sad
George (remember him) late of the ES , Osborne is muscling in alarmingly.

Waf darling, oh dear. Well bloody done for intervening. No wonder you are wobbly of molecule. 😲 ooh

Managed to fall asleep with Cremcat at 4.30pm and only just come to. Whoops.

Herbs, de lighted things are going well. Large Romanian child will be your biggest fan in about a month. I betcha.Grin

hattymattie · 19/04/2017 18:17

Auriga Flowers hope they get to a diagnosis soon. Lovely that your Mum's tree is budding.

WAF - hats off to you. A crepey of great courage.

Here - rissotto with random bits and pieces today.

Rosebag · 19/04/2017 18:32

Good grief WAF - well done for not being a bystander. Be kind to self tonight. Flowers

Auriga I'm so sorry you're still poorly but I guess the sooner the appointment the better. Lovely to see the buds x

Salmon fish pie going in the oven now. I am wistfully thinking I could quite happily live in a hotel, and go "in to dinner" every evening, instead of everyone else going "in to dinner" which I have cooked and will inevitably clear up as well Hmm

GiddyGiddyGoat · 19/04/2017 18:42

Found you - like the title - thanks Crem.

Reasons to be cheerful:
☆ lolling on sofa with large cup of my favourite tea with ds2 for company while he revises

☆ have decided to cook v easy peasy supper - no effort but yummy

☆ have done worthy, dull but noticeable amounts of tidying and sorting today - have warm glow of satisfaction. Nothing like a good clear out!

What does ds have to sort out Lalsy? Have I missed something?

Auriga - lovely photo. So sorry to hear that you are still poorly. Glad investigations are ongoing and hope you're not too worried? Are you having to take it easy or are you still working and running around?

You've made me wish I had had an afternoon zzzzz now Crem! One of my favourite things.
