Quick vote: silver converse, yay or nay?

Have been eyeing these silver converse for a while, and now they're slightly reduced.

Am I too old for them? (I'm 42). Or are they a bit naff whatever your age? Or shall I buy them? Help me decide, please!

Oh no, I bought the gold converse from Office. You people are very influences. I'm supposed to be budgeting.

BestZebbie I'm totally with you on metallic accessories. Used to scoff at them at uni, quite like them now.

For some reason we always scoffed at Chelsea boots too, and wouldn't consider any man wearing them. I still have that prejudice.

mintmagnummm · 24/03/2017 06:43

Hi, I just clicked the link although wish I hadn't because now I want them! But they aren't reduced?? £62??

GetAHaircutCarl · 24/03/2017 07:05

DD ( 17 yr) and I are the same size and often have several pairs of Converse ( and an assortment of other pumps and trainers) on the go.

Silver ones are very versatile I find.

As for being too many old, can I say my mum who is nearly 75 wears a pair of New Look a-bit-like-converse navy pumps ( more support than the real thing).

Frouby · 24/03/2017 07:11

They are lovely OP. I would buy them and I am 40 this year.

OhDearToby · 24/03/2017 07:12

It's a nay from me.

I think in the silver they are a bit frumpy to be honest. I've never seen them on anyone not middle aged, which is fine obviously but it does mean I associate them with being middle aged now. I may be a bit bias though because I work in a shoe shop (we sell converse/superga etc) and anything metallic seems to attract the older crowd much more than the younger.

I don't think converse are for teenagers anymore. When I was a teen they were very common but now it's all Nike and addidas.

mammmamia · 24/03/2017 07:12

I'm 39 and I've got those silver ones! I love them! Haven't worn them enough as it's been so bloody cold but looking forward to wearing them more in spring.

AuntPol · 24/03/2017 08:19

mintmagnum, how bizarre. They aren't showing as reduced any more. They definitely were yesterday, though! Actually, there seem to be loads of converse styles that were in the sale yesterday, but not today - maybe they accidentally reduced them, then realised their mistake?

Metallics are a neutral

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 24/03/2017 09:45

they have realised how POPULAR and on trend they are and what a mistake they made reducing them so early in the season.

JessiCake · 24/03/2017 10:26

Love them. I'd wear them. Might buy them!

MusicToMyEars800 · 24/03/2017 10:30

26 years old here and love them, good for you for treating yourself

BitOutOfPractice · 24/03/2017 10:40

I have two (count them!) two pairs of silver converse One with sequins that are 10+ years old.

I hate all this "too old". "try hard" shit. I'm older than you OP and I wear what I bloody well want

BigGreenOlives · 24/03/2017 10:46

Dds are nearly 19 & nearly 16 & both wear converse. Older dd also wears Stan Smith's & younger also wears Nike. I had silver leather trainers from Kurt Geiger 10 years ago, they were really versatile.

TealStar · 24/03/2017 11:00

I like my Ash Virgins in gunmetal myself; more comfortable than Converse.

I am struggling to resist a pair of silver Superga for summer though. I love silver trainers!

One of my dds has a pair of rose gold Superstars, and I covet them. She won't let me wear them though!

KoalaDownUnder · 24/03/2017 11:05

I love them.

Are they any good for long, narrow feet or would I be better off with Supergas?

I really want some silver trainers now!

Floisme · 24/03/2017 11:14

I love them. They match my hair.

SapphireStrange · 24/03/2017 11:21

Koala, I have long narrow feet and Converse suit me well; I find they're made quite narrow, plus you can easily pull the laces as tight as you need.

I don't have any Supergas so can't compare and contrast.

KoalaDownUnder · 24/03/2017 11:30

Thanks for the info, Sapphire! Smile

Laquila · 24/03/2017 18:38

Koala - Comverse are definitely narrower than Superga

lakehouse · 24/03/2017 22:14

God I wish posts came with pictures. I'm dying to see all you style icon middle aged women in your silver/gold/purple converse! The mind boggles. Thankfully I don't mix with anyone who would leave the house like that...

AuntPol · 24/03/2017 22:24

I don't think anyone is claiming to be a style icon Confused

Thankfully I don't mix with anyone who decides whether people are fit to mix with based on their choice of footwear colour.

Laquila · 24/03/2017 22:25

With that charming attitude, Lakehouse, I'm surprised you mix with anyone at all.

Babydontcry · 24/03/2017 22:27

Yay

lakehouse · 24/03/2017 22:27

It's not just the footwear colour, the fact that they are converse is also a factor!

AuntPol · 24/03/2017 22:35

Oh, that's alright then lakehouse. Clearly it must be fine to judge someone on their choice of brand of footwear Confused
