Have been eyeing these silver converse for a while, and now they're slightly reduced.

Am I too old for them? (I'm 42). Or are they a bit naff whatever your age? Or shall I buy them? Help me decide, please!

I think Converse, like Superga, are perfectly safe choices for middle age, not too young at all. Anyone can wear them. It's not exactly like rocking up at Harpenden Mint Velvet in the Riccardo Tisci Nike dunk boots.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 23/03/2017 18:33

it's only desperate if you wear them with black opaques...like the tweens did (maybe still do) a couple of years back

As a flat easy to wear, everyday plimsolly thing they are pretty timeless

Kr1stina · 23/03/2017 18:36

I'm 10 years older than you and wear silver supergas ( because converse are too uncomfortable ) .

I don't care if anyone thinks they are " try hard" . I'd rather look try hard than making no effort at all.

TheDogsMother · 23/03/2017 18:36

I'm 53 and wear the silver Superga. I think trainers are for any age.

MinesaPinot · 23/03/2017 18:40

I'm 54 and I think Yes, Yes, Yes to silver Converse. I'd buy them without a doubt. I've got metallic copper Converse and every time I wear them someone comments. Love them.

BestIsWest · 23/03/2017 19:45

Are Supergas comfy then? I have a metatarsal problem so Converse aren't great and I love my trainers but do feel frumpy in them. I'd like something like Converse but agree they are not comfy enough for long periods.

BestIsWest · 23/03/2017 19:47

These look lovely superga

Doobigetta · 23/03/2017 20:19

They are gorgeous. "Try hard"? ODFOD.

explodingkittens · 23/03/2017 20:59

Try hard? Desperate? Give me a break. Utter rubbish.

They're gorgeous OP and if I hadn't just blown my budget on Jaeger and Baukjen dresses this month I'd be buying them too (I'm 44)!

I do actually have a cheapo pair of silver Converse-style but they're only primark so will probably only last 5 mins. But I love them (and my leopard-print Superga too!)

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 23/03/2017 21:09

Yay.

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 23/03/2017 21:10

I'm clearly try hard and desperate, it seems. Shame. So shoot me.

BikeRunSki · 23/03/2017 21:12

Yes yes yes
I am 46, I love silver shoes of all styles.

BestZebbie · 23/03/2017 21:14

I'm torn - in my teens and twenties I was firmly convinced that metallic-looking leather accessories (shoes, bags, belts) were for very elderly women only and that was the hallmark that all desire to follow actual fashion had left.
Now I'm middle aged I actually quite like metallic-look shoes.
I'm genuinely not sure if I have proved myself right or wrong. :-/

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 23/03/2017 21:18

no, gold and silver have been sneaking into non sandal based footwear and out of the OAP/cruisewear bracket for a couple of years now

all the cool folks are wearing them now! Except lakehouse

BestIsWest · 23/03/2017 21:20

The Superga are only £29 on Amazon. Seriously tempted.

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 23/03/2017 21:21

Superga come up really big.

BestIsWest · 23/03/2017 21:23

Think I will find a RL pair to try first then. Ta for the tip Remus

Bluntness100 · 23/03/2017 21:24

Converse on anyone no longer a teenager looks try hard and desperate. Sorry but it's true! And silver 🙈🙈🙈 Please don't!

Lol, I have a nineteen year old daighter and she literally snorted at your post. Grow up. What's wrong with you?

Laquila · 23/03/2017 21:29

I bought pewter Superga and gunmetal Converse to compare a couple of weeks (were you on my thread AuntPol?! 😂)

The Converse were lovely, and comfier than I remember Converse being, but I need a 7 in them and they just looked sooo long - I had clown feet! The Supergas were a better shape, and I wear canvas Ines anyway so I knew they'd be comfy.

Annoyingly, I see they've gone down £8 on amazon to £42 something!

Superga Women's 2750 Cotumetu S002Hg0 Trainer, Grey (Grey), 6.5 UK www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002WQ05MS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_O2d1ybABWBJR0?tag=mumsnetforum-21

FWIW I'm generally a 6.5 in U.K. shoes, and needed a 7 in Converse and 40EUR in the Superga.

LeakyPeg · 23/03/2017 21:32

lakehouse ime teenagers wouldn't be seen dead in converse.

(or certainly any teenagers in my neck of the woods).

I like them OP.

AuntPol · 23/03/2017 21:35

Oh, poor lakehouse. She's entitled to her opinion, controversial as it may be!

Anyway, my lovely silver converse are bought and should hopefully be winging their way to me soon Smile - thanks again for all the input!

I find the slightly smaller Superga (than Converse) tend to fit me better as they're a bit wider, IYSWIM.

AuntPol · 23/03/2017 21:40

True, leaky, I don't think I've seen any teenagers around here wearing converse. Must just be us try-hard old gimmers that wear them.

laquila, I think did read your thread, yes (yet another case of a S&B thread leading to more money being spent in the the AuntPol household - no wonder DH wishes I spent less time mumsnetting!)

Bollocks are they desperate, Converse are a classic that suit pretty much anyone. I've had a pair virtually every year since I was a teenager and was complemented today on my pewter pair. I'd love the silver too - metallics go with everything. My favourite ever pair were purple sequin- my mate said they were like Lelli Kellis for grown ups Grin.

BestIsWest · 23/03/2017 21:52

Shall tell 19 yo DS that he shouldn't be be seen dead in Converse. Mind you he bought brown cords yesterday Shock
