Join us to talk all things fashion and beauty. The clocks go forward next Sunday (who's bright idea was it to organise that on Mother's Day?!). Longer days and hopefully some sunshine - we're dying to get our ankles out.
All welcome :)

Are you ready to share the template yet Blair?

FedupNagging · 27/04/2017 20:00

If I can just draw you all away from spreadsheets for a moment... Grin

I decided to cut down an old pair of jeans to go for the frayed look but they don't seem to want to 'fray'. I guess it's because they have some stretch in them? Not sure they look quite right not frayed iyswim?

I love the &os gingham dress you have linked Shop - I might have to do an order or get into town soon.

libertydoddle · 27/04/2017 20:35

Few slides on how to do it here fedup. I think it's probably quite tricky to get the level of fraying in that Pin...

libertydoddle · 27/04/2017 20:35

forgot the link

Longislandicetee · 27/04/2017 20:35

Absolutely zero chance of me doing spreadsheets! Think Carrie's closet and you will understand why! I decided to open one set of doors and counted what was hanging up...my guess is that i have about 600 items in total. I will live the spreadsheet experience vicariously through you all!!!Grin

libertydoddle · 27/04/2017 20:55

Another spreadsheet insight - have just tried to select an outfit for tomorrow using only items from my love list - of the ones that are seasonally appropriate or work appropriate almost two thirds of them are in the laundry bin!!! This is why I think I have no clothes, I don't stay on top of laundry Grin and I won't admit that several items on my 'not worn in the last 6 months' list have languished unworn because they need dry cleaning Blush

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 27/04/2017 21:07

It's not I'm afraid shop - i just tried to do a template version, but the formulas in the analysis bit didn't like the fact that there were no longer exactly 180 items :( I need to fine tune that. But if you (or anyone) wants to start making a list, it should be easy to copy and paste in when I do get it ready to send out :)
The headings in mine are:
Type (Coat, Dress, etc)
Item (describe item)
Approx cost
Colour
Brand
Designer? (Yes/No)
Fabric (Anything not natural fibres = Synthetic)
Bought from ("Shop" if shop sells one brand, the actual place/site if not, eg Outnet or Selfridges)
Year bought
Occasion (Work/Casual/Both)
Print (Plain/Pattern/Stripe)
Fitted/Loose
Last 6 months (Yes/No)
Love/Like/OK

fedup I have never tried it, but I'm sure you're supposed to bunch up the bottom of cut jeans and rub them with a cheese grater to fray them up? This will be on youtube...

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 27/04/2017 21:09

Blingy fair dos Grin it would be an AMAZING spreadsheet though!!

FedupNagging · 27/04/2017 21:33

A cheese grater?! Cripes, this is serious stuff

Thanks for the link Lib - am off to check it out.

Longislandicetee · 27/04/2017 21:45

Lib get lovely old dh to drop your dry cleaning off for you!Grin

Blair I was dizzy reading your column headings!!! Hhmmm, I could do with a bling spreadsheet.😂

Fraying jeans with a grater?!Shock

libertydoddle · 27/04/2017 22:10

He used to Blingy. Then i had a row with the local dry cleaner and switched to one a friend recommended. He refuses to travel 6 tube stops to drop it off. I probably need to get over it Grin

shopafrolic · 27/04/2017 23:07

I used to love customising jeans in my teens. I've done a few old GAP pairs of skinnies - frayed the hems, cut off back pockets etc. I wouldn't dare try it with designer stuff though.
Am about to cut up my Prince tee that I bought last year and turn it into a tank.
Thanks for the headers Blair - we are away this weekend but the weather is set to be lousy so I may make a start.

Dreamqueen · 28/04/2017 06:18

Thanks Blair, I'm off to rejig my headings. Smile

Blingy your spreadsheet would be a mammoth task but would make great reading. if only I had enough bling to warrant a spreadsheet.

*fedup8 anytime I've tried to fray jeans, it hasn't been a great success. i suspect thats because of the added stretch. My favourite pair of denim shorts are frayed and have stretch though. They were a cheap pair bought in Tesco many years ago & are sadly on their last legs. I've been looking for a replacement pair unsuccessfully for ages.

Lib have you tried using a dry cleaners that pick up & drop off. Dry cleaning stays in the bottom of my laundry basket for months (so hardly ever by dry clean only items)

FedupNagging · 28/04/2017 08:54

So, the cheese grater is for the diy distressed/ripped denim look which I most definitely don't do! I'm going to have a go with a knife later Hmm. I strongly suspect the jeans will end up in the bin!

I went to order the gingham &os dress last night and had a change of heart- I really don't think that much gingham would look right on me too old I'll keep looking for a top.

Beautiful sunny morning here, if a little chilly. Have a good day everyone.

FedupNagging · 28/04/2017 09:08

Lib dm uses something similar to this product and says it works really well - might be worth a try if getting to the dry cleaners regularly is a pita?

libertydoddle · 28/04/2017 09:08

dream there is a local business who do pick up and drop off ironing and dry cleaning. They are very good - i just need to be more organised. They have a minimum charge so to make it worth it i need to have 20 items of ironing and while that doesn't sound a lot it seems to take me a while to build that up and inevitably i end up doing it as i will need something.

Day of meetings today. OOTD is Uniqlo navy midi pencil skirt, See by Chloe dark olive cotton/linen mix shirt, trench coat, opaques, tan R&B heeled Chelsea boots, gold earrings and Accessorize initial necklace. Black Modalu tote bag.

libertydoddle · 28/04/2017 09:10

That looks worth a try fedup! Flowers

libertydoddle · 28/04/2017 09:11

I forgot to say i agree with you on the all over gingham. I think it's a very tricky look to pull off.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 28/04/2017 09:23

Oops, I said I hadn't tried the cheese grater thing Grin good luck Fedup...!

Gingham just reminds me of my primary school uniform! I don't think it's me at all.

I think 20 items sounds like a lot for dry cleaning. I have a cleaners opposite my work but I am still rubbish about taking things in Blush it just means they don't get worn because I know I'll have to pay for cleaning. I've definitely not been buying so many dry clean items in the last year or 2 for this reason (one for the spreadsheet!)

OOTD sounds lovely Lib, I have the accessorize initial necklace I think you mean, I wear it loads.

Dreamqueen · 28/04/2017 09:47

Blair. Besides getting me started on spreadsheets you've inspired me to tidy the wardrobes and I now realise that I probably don't need to buy any striped tops for a while. Grin

Does anyone know when &OtherStories have their sale?

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 28/04/2017 10:02

That looks like my wardrobe Dream Grin
Fedup sandpaper is good for fraying edges.........agree with above though that stretch jeans don't customise as easily.
Am hovering over the silver boots from Stories. AM ordering a top I tried on and fell in love with but had to wait for this month's cash before ordering. The silver boots are in my basket. Free delivery and returns. WWYD?

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 28/04/2017 10:04

I absolutely love them and can't stop thinking about them........definitely appealing to my dramatic side.

Channeling this

Did you sell the pink boots? If so get the silver ones. If you are still thinking about them it's meant to be. They will look amazing with leather leggings.
