Join us to talk all things fashion and beauty. The clocks go forward next Sunday (who's bright idea was it to organise that on Mother's Day?!). Longer days and hopefully some sunshine - we're dying to get our ankles out.
All welcome :)

Get them shop

queencerulean · 28/04/2017 10:40

Pressed send too soon. Get them if you will definitely wear them but if you think they will just sit in a cupboard like the pink ones then don't.

I like gingham but it's not a great pattern for me especially as the fabric is often quite stiff. If I wear things like checks/stripes I'm better in a drapey fabric.

shopafrolic · 28/04/2017 11:24

Right - I've ordered. It's free returns so will try them with loads of stuff at home but send back if there is any doubt.

Sounds sensible shop, they are fab but it needs to be love!

Stokey · 28/04/2017 13:33

You need those boots Shop - they're the biz

Have never regretted buying my starry ones - I get compliments from random strangers every time I wear them. I'd buy your pinks but am sure we're not the same size, 38?

I love a spreadsheet for holiday, building work & finance but cannot begin to get my head round a wardrobe one. Still your organisational skills Blair & Lib, are astounding.

I've been doing a bit of freelance work so feel madly busy, haven't bought anything for ages apart from a couple of beauty things.

Has anyone heard of The Ordinary? I'm trying out their skin care stuff - it's meant to be high-end products at low-end prices, but think you need a chemistry degree to understand it (i'm pure arts)

Lipstick - I have loads but mainly strong colours. Agree with Justa about Chanel Rouge Allure - I bought Elegante recently a gorgeous plum & DH just bought me Coromandel which is a tomatoey red - maybe a bit orange for me. I'd written him a list of things to get in duty free one of which was Chanel Coromandel but I meant the perfume & he got sold the lipstick - whoops.

Interested to hear how the jeans turn out fedup, good luck!

Sorry for random outpourings after absence, will be back if I have anything to report.

Interested to hear how you get on with the boots Shop - is the photo of you?

Lib I keep looking at that Me and Em dress (your 'ok' one) but I noticed it is dry clean only - have you ever put it through the machine? I am not good with dry clean stuff either...

I just logged in to my outnet account and received a passive aggressive message about how I had been returning a lot of stuff recently - I think I last bought something from there in December Hmm. Maybe they are in cahoots with Lib's DHL man Grin

I am Hush obsessed at the moment and just ordered this jacket - it is the kind of thing I will get a lot of wear out of.

Stokey I am interested in trying the Ordinary but the technical side does put me off - I like being told what to do. Similarly I have dipped in to the skincare threads but all the science makes me switch off.

FedUp I have cut jeans and then they seem to naturally fray more as they get worn.

shopafrolic · 28/04/2017 14:38

Yup Bernice the pic is me :)
Stokey I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the Ordinary. I am a bit skincare obsessed but it baffled me and I stepped away. There was an S&B thread on it a little while ago.

I'm invited to a big deal modern art event (due to tangential link to someone I was at school with). What kinds of things do people wear? It will be a mix of arty types and high net worth types. I am short, recently lost weight due to illness (RIP my face) so around a size 6. Part of me thinks I should chicken out but maybe I should get out of my comfort zone.

FedupNagging · 28/04/2017 15:18

Hi Bloomed Sorry you've been unwell - definitely don't chicken out of a night out, you might have a fab time.

What sort of clothes do you like wearing?

There are a few nice dresses in Jigsaw: this is lovely
Love this Navy dress and a slightly better price too.

Or trousers, silk top and heels? I love this look

I have no idea what one wears to this type of event but maybe someone will come along soon who does.

Bloomed · 28/04/2017 15:38

Those dresses are nice. I have some good black jeans so could go the jeans and heels route. The man who invited me lives in jeans and was no help when I asked what to wear.

shopafrolic · 28/04/2017 16:14

Bloomed definitely go. It'll be fun to have a change of scene especially if you've had a tough time health wise.
What kind of clothes do you normally wear? On the rare occasion I get invited to stuff like this (very rare) I tend to stick with skinnies, a tee or silk blouse, heels and a blazer. Others on this thread get to go to such things more frequently than me and will help I'm sure.
Is it London?

OP posts:
Bloomed · 28/04/2017 16:27

Yes it's London. I'm thinking a bomber or blazer could work. I did this kind of thing over a decade ago but that was another life (I wore shift dresses and good jeans then). I can probably borrow a decent handbag to dress things up.

FedupNagging · 28/04/2017 16:53

The boots look fab Shop

Stokey I like the sound of The Ordinary - simple (ish) products with no parabans, sulphates etc but it all looks a bit complicated. I know that essentially all products do a similar job regardless of price, packaging and claims so it makes sense to strip it all back to basics I guess.

Jeans update - they are now slightly frayed; apparently washing them helps the fraying process so that is my next step. Tbh, it's probably easier just to buy a pair but then I'll need to find some that won't need taking up thus removing any frayed edges..........

I have spent most of this afternoon trying to talk to the tax office and feeling very, very frustrated - is it too early to open the Wine ?

Dreamqueen · 28/04/2017 18:28

Not too early now Fedup I've started WW and am using the remainder of todays allowance on gin. I need to rummage in the wardrobe & find an outfit for an engagement party tomorrow night. 3lbs down this week, just need to be strong and not go off the rails tomorrow.

Great boots Shop I can totally see you rocking them, (especially with your cut off T shirt)

Disclaimer: If I start typing gibberish, blame the gin, I've had none all week.

libertydoddle · 28/04/2017 19:12

bloomed jeans and heels with a glam top sounds perfect for a London art event.

Dream i am Grin at you using up your WW points on gin. 3lbs is a great start. Well done.

Stokey The Ordinary confuses me too as do all the skincare threads. I'm not convinced by it all. I've used loads of different serums etc on my face and never notice a difference. Now i tend to stick to using a cream cleanser and facecloth, an acid toner pad 2/3 times per week and alternate facial oil and plain moisturiser (currently using Roche Posey Toleraine). And SPF during the day.

Bernice the Me&Em dress would really suit you i think. I haven't attempted to wash it but was planning to try it on a wool cycle soon. I'll let you know how it goes. Hush jacket looks good.

Everyonelovessparkles · 28/04/2017 20:16

Well done dream on the weight loss. I cracked open the gin at 4.55 today Grin its been a loooonnggg day with the DC and a long week overall! And any call with the pensions/ tax people deserves a vat of gin never mind a glass.

bloomed jeans and a nice top sounds perfect for your night out. It could be fun, don't chicken out!

Boots look fab shop. Good idea to try at home. I'm a great believer in ordering and thinking about it as then you know for sure vs dwelling and regretting it.

Good luck with the jeans fedup.

Bloomed · 28/04/2017 20:17

I will try on some jeans at the weekend. This is an excuse for me to scout out some society pages etc. I use the Ordinary retinoid which seems to have some oomph.

Everyonelovessparkles · 28/04/2017 20:17

Ps would love to see blingys spreadsheet Smile I also wish I had enough bling for a spreadsheet Grin Envy

Everyonelovessparkles · 28/04/2017 20:30

I read the skin care thread on here and it seemed very complicated. I currently use an amie cleanser (company owned by an ex CEO of Estée Lauder), Ren cleanser, L'Oréal revitalift moisturiser, Estée Lauder night regenerist serum and a Ren eye cream. For me, less is definitely more. The ordinary stuff seems very complicated...

MarshaBrady · 29/04/2017 14:56

Hello lovely voguettes.

I know I just got from a beach holiday but I find I am thinking about the summer holiday already.

Has anyone booked yet, or know where you might be going?

I'm thinking of going back to Cyprus again but it's becoming a well worn path!

MarshaBrady · 29/04/2017 15:12

Oh Blair that is so awful, you poor thing. Hope you are ok

Lib what a pain re the pitch, but their loss, get the dress ;

Bloomed sounds fun go for a longer or midi dress? Printed and light fabric or if no can do, skinnies and a heel sounds fab. I think pretty much anything goes, with people really dressed up and others not at all at art things

Shop great boots, did you keep them?

I hardly have any lipstick, and buy them mostly as they look so pretty Confused - Lancôme and Chanel

I don't think I've spent that much, probably not even worth a spread sheet, but the Mansur Gavriel suede pumps have been such a hit. Seriously, wear them all the time at work. Lots of comments. I'm considering buying another colour in the sales, but all the Matches ones have nearly gone.

I also need to go to Liberty with another voucher this Spring. Not sure if to do sales or wait for new season.

MarshaBrady · 29/04/2017 15:16

I've had a week at work, with a big meeting that we've been working on for a while and client dinner at a nice venue, but it means a really late night which takes it out of me.

So I'm mulling around today, relaxing as much as possible. Checking out best of the Met Gala

Love Cate Blanchett, so beautiful even with the hair and makeup , she can pull it off. She looks great with the guy too

How good is Emma Stone in red? She always looks so good at events

Bloomed if I'm not sure what to wear I either most often go all black or black skinnies, top, great shoes and bag.

Agree about gingham...keep trying it but always look like a clown...given up now.

Gosh....I seem to have organised a hat trick of socialising this weekend I call it "doing an Amber out for fantastic steak last night where my Boden red shoes from hell were remarked on by a guy bit weird.

Tonight I have 14 coming for a BBQ in our summer house shed just bought some solar lights to hang outside that look like light bulbs, cute.

I think DH may actually die.....looks shattered already Grin need stamina to be married to me.

I have a friend whose having a very bad time....have decided to do a showstopper pud to make her laugh. Profiteroles tower with firework fountain on top and lots of sparklers all round the side classy, understated moi? need to be careful after mucho prosecco to not set myself on fire on the walk from the kitchen to the summer house Shock

Ah yes, outfit will be white broderie blouse, girlfriend jeans and red high heeled sandals ( it's nearly summer)
