Ooooh
Will try that
Thank you

Imscarlet · 06/03/2017 16:17

So I've just sprayed Midnight Oud. I knew I recognised the smell and racked my brains. On first spray it smells like TCP. That isn't the initials of some fancy perfume, I mean TCP the antiseptic stuff!! Now that said, I quite like the smell of TCP and as it's drying down, I'm liking it more and more. Much more subtle than Another Oud. If I'm going to venture into Oud territory, this will be how I'll do it. Yes, I like this. A lot!!

Badders123 · 06/03/2017 16:26

Oh! Another antiseptic scent lover!
My dh thinks I'm weird
God I love the smell of Germalene!
Blush

Imscarlet · 06/03/2017 16:51

You would love this then!!!!

Pestilentialone · 06/03/2017 17:43

Suppose it is time to confess that coal tar soap enhances most perfumes IMHO

Imscarlet · 06/03/2017 17:47

Really? I love that smell too - I have a bar in the shower. No idea what I'm supposed to do with it.

Badders123 · 06/03/2017 18:03

I LOVE coal tar soap!

Judydreamsofhorses · 06/03/2017 19:38

I don't enjoy TCP or coal tar soap, but god, I love the smell of bleach.

LesIncompetents · 06/03/2017 20:04

If you love TCP, try and get a whiff of Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle, it might be the weirdest perfume I've ever smelled.

I love the smell of the strip of sandpaper on the side of match boxes!

Imscarlet · 06/03/2017 20:28

I have to say I am absolutely loving Midnight Oud. I'm sniffing my wrist all evening. I might give Another Oud another go just in case it was the initial whiff that offended me. This is a totally different perfume on dry down. It's gorgeous.

Imscarlet · 06/03/2017 20:30

And just to go in a totally different direction, I was in boots at the weekend and sprayed d&g's l'imperatrice and it was the most awful perfume I've ever sprayed. I googled it much later that night and someone described it as smelling like herbal essence shampoo and that is exactly what it smelt like!

Badders123 · 06/03/2017 20:59

I had a similar reaction to the new Marc Jacobs one...it was just...nasty

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 06/03/2017 21:16

I was in M&S the other day and on a whim bought Island Escape, Island Sunset, White Orchid and the Butterfly 🦋 one. They are all so pretty....I'm really excited about spring and summer so I can finally wear golden, heady cocktails as well as fresh, light breezes.

MrsCocoa · 06/03/2017 21:37

Little sample of Lutece arrived today,. Made me think of 4160's Centrepiece, until I tried them side by side. Both have musk, marzipan and cedar notes, but 4160's is sweetened with with honey and vanilla, Lutece has cooler, airier aldehydes, cinnamon and orris. They do grow more alike in the dry-down.

On TCP, always thought Mitsouko has a distant whiff of hospital corridors? What is that note?

OP posts:
Pestilentialone · 06/03/2017 22:18

I've always thought Mitsouko had a touch of coal tar.
Tis rather nice, need more.
I may be a coal tar obsessive.

MrsCocoa · 06/03/2017 23:04

Here you go Pest. Looks like we both need to track down some Eau de Fier?

OP posts:
VintagePerfumista · 07/03/2017 06:32

I think the TCP is perhaps benzoin is it?

L'Heure Bleue begins with it, as do all those magnificent Tauers that saw us through January.

Found some blog gems last night which I'll link to- Candy Perfume Boy dissects "green" and Barbara Herman gives her Desert Island Top 5.

Mrs that explains why I like tea for two. Eau de fier sounds rather elusive & £££s

GetAHaircutCarl · 07/03/2017 07:10

In homage to CandyBoy's blog SOTD is No 19.

I wear this a lot. Especially when I want to be taken seriously ( no mean feat when you're blonde, busty, northern). So no wearing it at a party, yes to a meeting.

Badders123 · 07/03/2017 07:31

Yes I sent my mitsuko back
Too disinfectanty even for me!

VintagePerfumista · 07/03/2017 09:44

In homage to Candy boy I was nearly late rummaging through my samples as I know I have Amazingreen somewhere that I have ignored thinking it's a silly name.

Plumped for the Eau du Sud/Jade combo again in the end.

My deputy head is smelling divine these days and I collared her and said "what is that?" She didn't know Shock and said it was "the last thing she picked up" Hmm I asked her again yesterday and she says it's called something like "Jenny" as she waved her hands around. Now, being in Italy, I am thinking it's "Genny" of some description- it's lovely, crisp and yes, greenish, not a hint of sweet, but definitely springlike.

LesIncompetents · 07/03/2017 10:29

VP could it be this? www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Genny/Genny-9027.html lots of comparisons to Aromatics Elixir.

MrsC I love Lutece, sadly it's getting more difficult to find the original version so it's good to know Centrepiece is similar in case I run out.

SOTD is Shalimar Souffle de Parfum- so so pretty. Starts with a burst of citrus and then mellows into soft white flowers with a hint of vanilla.

teta · 07/03/2017 11:52

Candy Boys Green Perfumes piece is really interesting. Its my absolute favourite Genre and I'm now going to order Mito,Fathom ,Panorama and any other Greens I can find from Bloom.

Has anyone tried Chanel Beige Perfume?
I have a decant of the edt which I adore because of the Hawthorn note. But this and the perfume are now available on the Chanel website for very similar prices. However i'm so far from a Chanel Shop I'm trying to work out how they differ ?
Sotd is again Carillon Pour un Ange.I'm afraid home today and its time for some gardening.lily and Lilacs seem appropriate.

VintagePerfumista · 07/03/2017 13:00

LesIncompetents- I think it may well be! Now I think about it, the "crisp" yet strong bit was very Aromatics-y. Cheap as chips as well...will pop into our version of Boots and have a poke round- they have a perfumery section which is all very Dolce/Gabbana/Byblos/Pupa/ etc. (basically nothing out of the way, and nothing over about 30 euro- I always have a quick squirt of Roma and then pass it by as it's generally very pink as a section!)

I think now I'm all grown up Grin greens are very high on my list too. I got the green sample box from skins- which is where the amazingreen must have come from.
