Badders, have a look at Guerlain L'Instant Magic and Dior New Look 1947. The latter is £££ but you can get distils online. They're both powdery, floral scents that aren't overtly sweet.

Badders123 · 27/04/2017 13:55

Thank you!

Badders123 · 27/04/2017 14:07

That guerlain one sounds lovely!

DanceTheBlues · 27/04/2017 14:22

I adore it; it's such a comforting scent. Powdery and soft with a slight hint of pepper.

In fact I've just seen a comment on Fragrantica saying it reminds someone of Valentino Poudre so it would be worth a sniff!

Shoegirly · 27/04/2017 14:36

Wearing Poison girl. It's very sweet and almonds. A lot more like hypnotic poison than original poison. It's nice enough but my skin just eats perfume so not the powerhouse I was promised. Favourite Door is still Addict even though the reformulation is so weak.

Badders123 · 27/04/2017 14:41

I'm actually wearing one of the testers I got yesterday as it's so cold and grey here
Mont Blanc elixir - I quite like it!
I will def try the guerlain when next in town!

FatGirlWithChocolate · 27/04/2017 17:20

I have Narcisso Poudree and have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it
..find it a bit overwhelming at first, but after a few hours it's delicious..I don't wear it often though as I worry about being overpowering.

GreenPolishToGo · 27/04/2017 19:30

Badders there are several bottles of Sun, Moon, Stars on Ebay for reasonable prices as well as the usual silly ones. And you might be interested in this article on the Perfume Shrine. I know you don't care for Shalimar, but have you ever tried Shalimar Parfum Initial? It is wonderfully powdery, subtle and grown up, and, judging by the reviews, is a lot easier to wear than the original.

I'd second Diorissimo for a beautiful light floral, and I love Hypnotic Poison. Poison Girl smells very like La Vie est Belle to me but I like LVEB - in small doses - it's one that I think is very easy to overdo.

Today's Atelier Cologne sample was Jasmin Angelique and approached with some trepidation because I don't always get on with jasmine notes. Sure enough, it started off as a fresh citrus and then the jasmine took over so there was a faint waft of bad breath type odour. But that's just the way I seem to smell a lot of jasmine notes. And thankfully the jasmine faded away and was overtaken by galbanum. Bliss! The dry down ended up being very reminiscent of MMM Untitled so that was a lovely surprise. The longevity seems to be pretty good too - I can still smell it after several hours.

It's so chilly here I think I shall have to top up with something spicy. Opium maybe - it isn't possible to be cold in Opium!

Ollivander84 · 27/04/2017 19:33

SOTD - MMM lazy Sunday morning
Having a rubbish sick day and so wearing my favourite perfume!

Badders123 · 27/04/2017 19:41

They only ones I've seen are ££££
Out of my budget sadly
Shalimar initial? I shall try that one too
I sort of feel shalimar is bit too....grown up for me? Blush

Badders123 · 27/04/2017 19:42

Mmmmm....opium. Fabulous!

MrsCocoa · 27/04/2017 20:33

Badders - L'Heure Bleue is sublime. However, take a deep breath of it and you're suddenly wondering how a perfume can evoke the eternal and fleeting aspects of life all at once.

I remember someone (Warren Mitchell?) on Desert Island Discs asking for Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme from Thomas Tallis to be played on his death bed as this was music 'to give birth and die to'. I agree with him but would add that I want L'Heure Bleue sprayed on my pillows.

It's beautiful, and perfectly office-friendly if you don't find the rumination on your own mortality it provokes too intrusive! Smile

Obv loads more that weren't such successes!!! 😖
My late very glamourpus aunt used to give me her unwanted gifts of perfume or ones
She didn't like anymore...
So being young and poor I just used them!
Amarige by givenchy - 🤔 bluergh

White satin by yardley - now I liked this one!
Lace by yardley - ok
My sister wore le jardin d amour - remember that one? Jane Seymour wafting about a garden in the ad?
She also wore Paris which I loathed 😖

MsRinky · 28/04/2017 07:44

Morning perfumistas, have we all seen this?

Thank you MsRinky!

Calminaqualm · 28/04/2017 10:12

Thank you for the link, Ms Rinky. It sounds amazing. I shall definitely book a couple of tickets!

I am smothered in Dior Feve Delicieuse today. It is a bitter tonka and cocoa for the first 20 minutes. I can also smell mint and liquorice, although those notes aren't listed. It then morphs into a soft boozy vanilla and caramel. I have finished the sample and it's so expensive I don't think I can justify a fb. I tried the Perfume Parlour dupe, but it's not one of the good ones. The notes are way off with far too much patchouli and the lovely dry down just isn't there.

MrsCocoa · 28/04/2017 11:38

My anti-virus software really doesn't like that site Calmina.

Badders123 · 28/04/2017 12:02

Gah!
I'm cross 😡
I went into the dept store as I had a hospital appt to test l'heure Bleue, l'instant, shalimar initial and narsisso poudre.
Well
They had NONE of them!
Grrrr
I DID try shalimar EDT and I liked it!!
Also liked mitsuko but a bit spicy for me
So need to go to a larger town/dept store....one of the problems of living in the arse end of nowhere 😀

Badders123 · 28/04/2017 12:03

Tried poison girl - bluergh

Calminaqualm · 28/04/2017 12:24

Thanks MrsCocoa! I have reported it to MN and asked them to remove my middle paragraph. I would hate to be the cause of someone falling for a scam. Ah well, I thought there might be a drawback ...

MrsCocoa · 28/04/2017 14:27

Calmina - could be that it's perfectly OK - it did get auto-blocked and lit my screen up with red warnings I rarely see though. Thanks on both counts.

Finsbury · 28/04/2017 14:29

Sorry to barge in, but has anyone ever bought from Fragrancenet.com? Prices seem very very low. I was looking through the site and came across Paco Rabanne's Calandre which took me back a few decades. Not sure if I'd like it these days.

GreenPolishToGo · 28/04/2017 14:43

Thank you for the link MsRinky. DD and I would really enjoy that.

Calm Feve Delicieuse does sound delicious but you weren't joking about the price. Decants are the way to go, I'd say. There's an Ebay seller with a high score and good feedback offering 10ml decants for £14.99, which strikes me as pretty good for something so high end.

And speaking of Ebay, if anyone is looking for MMM Untitled there's a 75ml bottle listed to end tomorrow. Currently £25 plus P&P. It is not the best worded listing I've seen so shout if you have trouble finding it

Badders how wonderful, you have whole vistas of unexplored Florientals opening up in front of you. Smile Shame about your local department store but if all else fails there's always samples and decants.

Hope all the ill and stressed MN perfumistas are having a better day today.

SOTD is another Atelier Cologne sample - Pomelo Paradis. I remembered liking this one but thinking it didn't last very long. Its second outing confirms it. It is a lovely, fresh grapefruit but after three hours it seems to have disappeared altogether. I shall stick to Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune for grapefruit. After all it's fizzy. Well, it smells fizzy. If a smell can be said to be fizzy...

GreenPolishToGo · 28/04/2017 14:49

Finsbury I have. As I recall the hidden charges tend to bump the bargain prices up quite a bit. I bought a bottle of Mad Madame advertised at around £34 with the discount code but it actually ended up at around £50 by the time I'd completed check-out. Still a lot cheaper than RRP but not quite the bargain I'd thought I was getting.
