Evening All - any Galimard aficionados out there? Have just got completely over-excited and confused Galimard with Le Galion. A set of 5 1960s bottles is heading my way (thank goodness they were very cheap). That'll teach me. Blush

Green - could you give me the eBay link? Or a clue? Grin

GreenPolishToGo · 28/04/2017 22:44

I've sent you a PM Ollivander.

MrsC oh dear! I have to confess I've not heard of either of them. And I haven't been displaying much self control when it comes to vintage either. I now seem to have Emeraude and Shalimar Parfum Initial L' Eau on the way to me. Grin Baked beans can support life indefinitely, right.

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2017 22:50

Received! Thank you :)

Calminaqualm · 28/04/2017 23:21

I'd forgotten about Le Galion! I have fond memories of their Sortilege.

Yes, I think a large decant is the way to go with Feve Delicieuse but I might wait until later in the year. It's definitely a cold weather perfume.

MrsCocoa · 28/04/2017 23:32

Green I think I may nearly have bid against you for that Emeraude! Please tell me what it's like.

Badders123 · 29/04/2017 09:29

Oh dear
I keep looking at shalimar edt online
I don't need it

Meripenopause1 · 29/04/2017 09:55

Joined thread to say that I am a fan of Garlimard. Evie is one of my top 10s (reminds me of Clair de Musc). They are dupes I believe. The Garlimar is very similar to Shalimar (maybe a bit more powder and less leather). They do pure parfums, which I find a bit too dense and heavy, but the edps are lovely. And inexpensive.

Judydreamsofhorses · 29/04/2017 12:46

I keep losing this thread. I'm in the much hated Black Opium today - it's freezing here, and I needed something cosy. I definitely peaked too soon cracking out the Sel Marin and Bronze Goddess a few weeks back!

Meripenopause · 29/04/2017 12:49

Oh no, I've thread-killed (or stalled it). I'm one of you...I also have 100s of other perfumes. I love Ormonde Woman, Amazone, Azuree (the old one). I've never liked sweet. However, I've recently started to wear Guerlain's SDV and surprised myself with how pleasant I find it.

GreenPolishToGo · 29/04/2017 13:24

Hello Meri don't worry you haven't thread-killed or stalled. This thread tends to amble along happily in the slow lane. Hundreds of perfumes, you say - sounds like you'll be right at home.Smile

I wish a few more people did hate Black Opium Judy. EdT is supposed to be rather different to EdP (which is what I have) so I stalk EdT on Ebay periodically because I would like to compare the two. But it always ends up going so high I might as well nip down to Boots and buy it new - only I won't because I have a serious vintage habit to support.

MrsC yes, of course. I very nearly didn't bid on it and ended up just bunging another couple of quid on the top bid just in case.

Yesterday's SOTD ended up being Shalimar Parfum Initial. Still beautifully powdery and elegant. I do think Sanchez went a bit over the top when she called it a "disgrace"! Today's has yet to be decided. I shall go and rootle in the Atelier samples.

Badders you know we're not going to tell you to sit on your hands...

Ollivander84 · 29/04/2017 13:26

SOTD - 4160 Tuesday's sleep knot. Having a quiet day at home and wanted something gentle

Meripenopause · 29/04/2017 13:49

Thanks Green. Yes I think Sanchez may regret what she said about Shalimar Parfum Initial, seeing as we now have Mon Guerlain, which seems a very run-of-the-mill confection to me (although my teen daughter liked it).

MrsCocoa · 29/04/2017 15:12

Hello Meri - yes we amble, but we have staying power Grin. Thanks for the Galimard info - Evie is one of the bottles heading my way. Soir de Grasse sounds OK too - lilac, violet and moss.

Badders - I picked up half a bottle of 80s Shalimar for less than £15 on Ebay - so doesn't have to be a big investment...

Badders123 · 29/04/2017 16:40

Oh you rotters 😀
I'm looking at the eau de toilette as I found that very nice yesterday, preferred it to the parfum.
I've found a 50 ml flagon on Amazon for £27 which makes me want to buy it immediately but surely that price it's a fake?

Badders123 · 29/04/2017 16:41

Not a fan of mon guerlain.
Again, very sweet and sickly as most major perfumes seem to be ATM!

GreenPolishToGo · 29/04/2017 17:12

Not necessarily Badders, looking at the discount sites you can pick up 30ml of Shalimar EdT for around £25. So it's not that far off your Amazon bargain. But MrsC is right that you're likely to find it cheaper on Ebay - I got a practically full 15ml bottle of Shalimar EdT for under £7 plus P&P recently.

I do think if you're not a fan of sweet (and I do like sweet perfumes only not all the time) high street perfume shopping can be very disappointing at the moment. Vintage and niche offer much more variety and they don't have to break the bank either. If you can exercise some restraint. Only I'm not conspicuously successful at that.Blush

VintagePerfumista · 29/04/2017 17:25

Helloooooooo! I'm back! Been mega busy with exams, but first lot finished today.

I do have a new discovery (for me) for any Tauer fans though! My colleague (Comptoir sud pacifique fan) and I had to accompany the kids to the exams so I took some of my samples for us to amuse ourselves with while we waited..one of them was a freebie sent to me by AusLiebeZumDuft aaaaaages ago. Ashes by Franz Baclet/Boclet. (haven't looked it up yet, such is my excitement at running to tell you) It is very Tauer-y. Lovely, spice, balsam, clove, incense.

While the kids were at their exam yesterday we traipsed round town and found a niche boutique (remember, this is south of Italy so it was a bit exciting) Horrible horrible sales assistant who basically stood between us and the goodies and tried to flog us the latest Montale. I was pointing out the Malles, Lutens, Mecheri to my friend but this witch wouldn't let us anywhere near them. Meh, we both said after we had been prepared to whip out the CCs (I wanted to smell Carillon Pour un Ange- just for the name as usual lol) but there was no chance. All those gorgeous things just beyond our grasp.

Going to catch up on perfumery goings-on now.

Badders123 · 29/04/2017 17:27

I agree green not much on the high street for me 😞
I shall head back to e bay 😀

VintagePerfumista · 29/04/2017 17:28

Oooh Green! Emeraude! I have an almost full 70s bottle in my "do not touch and do not expose to light" box. Smells like my mummy on nights out when I was little.

That reminds me- the witch was horrified at the idea of vintage. "you have to throw things away after 6 mths and replace them" ODFOD.

GreenPolishToGo · 29/04/2017 21:24

VP! Good to see you haven't been trampled by an enraged donkey or an enraged MIL (for dissing her Easter roast). Your Ashes thing sounds lovely, but crikey what a batshit (as DD would say) shop assistant. And how frustrating for you both.

I haven't, to my knowledge, ever smelt Emeraude but Barbara Herman and Luca Turin both waxed so lyrical about it (and were so scathing about the modern formulation) that I've been keeping an eye out for it for a while.

Sleep Knot is yet another 4160 on my 'to try' list. I'm a bit surprised at it being gentle Ollivander because Sarah McCarthey describes it as "being for nights when you don't plan to sleep!"

SOTD is Atelier Cologne Sous le toit de Paris - lovely violet leaf opening, pleasant mildly spicy dry down and lasts about three hours - I think it's a like but not love for this one.

Ollivander84 · 29/04/2017 21:36

Green - I find it quite subtle but sexy if that makes sense. To me it's one where you're in bed with your lover and not seducing the whole bar?! Grin

Calminaqualm · 29/04/2017 22:32

I have been trying Atelier's Figuier Ardent today. It is a spicy sweet fig (tree and fruit). It was a soft skin scent after 3 hrs, but that stayed for another few hours after that. I really enjoyed it. I topped it up on one arm and then used L'Artisan Premier Figuier Extreme on the other to compare. The L'artisan is definitely a greener scent, so is different, but just as nice and lasts for about the same time. And at half the price, too!

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 30/04/2017 10:21

Vintage damn that witch, you should arrange to have her strangled at a crossroads immediately Angry Take comfort in the fact she probably earns commission and has just cost herself a shitload of money (Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, anyone?)

Badders we are all enablers here I have recently been sucked in to the gateway drug of Shalimar and it is gorgeous but I can't bring myself to wear it properly until it's Winter.

Have been wearing a sample of the latest Paco Rabanne (Olympea?) I tracked down for DD, as she smelt it in one of those scented adverts in a magazine and liked it. It's ok - the longevity on me is amazing which is interesting but it feels somehow run of the mill and not distinguishable from lots of current scents.

Today is my birthday though and I am wearing Mary Greenwell Cherry (courtesy of DH who obviously does listen to me wittering sometimes Grin) We were just discussing this on thread funnily enough and I'm pleased to be able to test it properly rather than just a sample/tester. It is satisfying my cherry craving nicely. I just love the MG bottles so much - that weighty gold (I want to say knob) sphere on top!

Off to take DC out for the day which I don't really feel up to but foolishly promised and they are excited. At least I smell of cherries.

Nice to see the thread so busy! Hope everyone is enjoying their (hopefully long for some of us!) weekends Smile

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 30/04/2017 10:23

PS Following on from Atelier talk, what do people think of the cost v longevity of these? To me they are too expensive anyway but even if I I could afford them I think I would balk at the cost for such a fleeting scent - or are they so lush they are worth it? I suppose the same question could be asked of all perfume really...
