Last day of term here too.Kids are exhausted as well as the teachers.
Lentisque by Phaedon for the third day running. Also wore it in bed last night -love.
Waiting for a Pure Distance sample set that is coming from Holland I think. Its meant to take 4-8 days and was posted 12 days ago Confused.I've e mailed the company and not had a response back yet.I'm really excited about testing them if they ever arrive.
Just browsing Notino, as you do and found a perfume for over a £1000 .Is it a misprint or do House of Matriarch perfumes really go for that amount? Shock.

OCSockOrphanage · 31/03/2017 10:15

Term finishing at noon, but only a brief respite for DS as Sunday sees him back in the K2 for 34 miles, from Devizes to Newbury, and us cheering, feeding and watering them every few miles. Then a fortnight off, before the main event: four days canoeing and camping from Devizes to Westminster Bridge along the Kennet and Avon canal and the Thames. It's 125 miles, with 77 portages. Plus loads of practice papers for Maths AS in the summer. It's not going to be the most relaxed Easter holiday!

Mad Madame on the wrists today.

LesIncompetents · 31/03/2017 10:51

One of my cats seems to like Miss Balmain. She is not a cuddly cat but was all over me last time I wore it (either that or she was after more food!)

We still have a week of school left here, boo.

Random obscure mini of the day is Graffiti by Roberto Capucci. This is actually lovely and works well for spring- green and aldehydic opening with a rosy, slightly fruity drydown.

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 31/03/2017 15:18

Sorry for those with school still going! I don't know why ours finish so early here but I am not complaining Grin

Sock I am exhausted just reading that. One of mine is prepping for GCSEs this holiday. We have already had a row about maths revision and it's the first bloody day. Actually it was last night so not even the first bloody day

Please bear with an amateur alert! SOTD is Lady Vengeance. I'm deliberately wearing it before reading more about it to form my own opinion first I love it at first smell but the dry down is just odd on me. The rose is just yummy and the patchouli (?) is lovely underneath - "on paper" this should be right up my street but there is a note of something that smells incredibly sweet to me now, teetering towards nose wrinkling. I can't remember the name but there was a perfume I wore once which had marigold in which went the same way, and I don't think there is anything like this in here. Interestingly DD loves this and asked to wear it when she goes out later...isn't it funny?

I know there are lots of JHAG lovers and experts here who may know what the hell I am actually wittering on about Grin

The cat smells of sunshine today. And biscuits.

VintagePerfumista · 31/03/2017 15:26

My cat used to lick tissues that had had Olbas Oil on them. He brought me a fucking ginormous (and worse, alive cicada thing in the house this morning, and I still haven't found its remains Confused)

Been a lazy perfumista this week, going back and forth between Chanel 19, Miss Dior and Liz Earle 1 with a brief hit of Diorissimo in the middle.

Just took possession of some Occitane face cream and got a sample of their new perfume Terre de Lumiere ("the first gourmand aromatic") It smells like perfume departments around Christmas time. Not awful, but very young and teenagery and sweet. Vaguely reminiscent of the original Chance. It will def be going to dd. (and I will def be hoping she doesn't like it)

Imscarlet · 31/03/2017 16:39

Chance smells like cat wee on me. I wore it once and someone commented on men wearing very strong aftershave. I know they were talking about me.

Thanks for the recommendation! I have Givenchy Dahlia noir already so that might be a runner!

OCSockOrphanage · 31/03/2017 20:50

MrsC, I am not a participant for 12 August as we have a wedding that day, but tempted by future possibilities. Please, do keep us posted on developments.

MrsCocoa · 31/03/2017 22:12

Of course OC - we're still working it all through.

The Postman delivered an old half full bottle of Carven's Eau Vive. Citrus/herbal - lovely mandarin opening (reminded me of the long lost Eau de Gres). Gets dry and aromatic quite quickly. First cousin to Coriandre which is a bit sweeter and more floral?

Our cat dislikes all perfume and thinks we should all smell of her.

MrsCocoa · 31/03/2017 22:20

Vintage - I tried Terre de Lumiere on Monday and was similarly underwhelmed. Had nipped in for a fix of the re-issued Ambre. Which smelt a little thinner than I remembered. Not sure if that's my shifting sensibilities or the reformulation...

GreenPolishToGo · 31/03/2017 23:13

Vent Vert made it safely across the Channel, and it is as green as a shamrock and smells divine. I am so delighted.Smile Thank you again for the tip-off VP.

MrsC, get The Great Randello. You know you love it. And I may just have lashed out on Sunshine & Pancakes before the price goes up.

I've just been looking at House of Matriarch's website and they're not cheap. Nothing over £1,000 though! And they do sound interesting.

Dream I am certainly no expert but I think it must be the vanilla notes that you're finding too sweet in Lady Vengeance. I like it a lot but I am fond of a lot of sweet stuff - Black Opium for a start!

Commiserations to those of you with DCs facing GCSEs/AS/A Levels. This is the first Easter in what seems like a very long time that DD isn't holed up with a pile of notes and I think we're all glad of the break.

SOTD is Poison - just a dab on each wrist. It does smell so wonderfully witchy once the creosote-smelling top notes have died down. I'm sure Bellatrix Lestrange would douse herself in it. Narcissa, I think, would plump for Chanel No 5, and Molly Weasley for something Yardley, English Lavender perhaps...

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 01/04/2017 06:27

Thanks for the heads up Pest and MrsC The four pack of 9mls samples was next on my list, but I think will get bumped for the crowd fund instead.

Great article Green. Do I mean article, or to do list? Blush

Yesterday's SOTD was PP jasmine rouge. I've had it for a while but it's been sat at the bottom of my box - I smelt the bottle and wasn't impressed. Gave it a chance yesterday and after dry down it was better than I expected.

Not sure what to go with today. We're going to two toddler birthday parties over the weekend Confused

Anyone placed any recent orders with PP? Placed one before the end of last week and still doesn't look like it's been dispatched yet.

VintagePerfumista · 01/04/2017 06:42

PP can often take quite a while- they take about 2-3 weeks to get over here to Furrin. I wonder if maybe they make up their juices in small batches? Often things are out of stock for a while.

How are you all breaking up already? We finish on 12/4 and have 5 days. Most of which will have to be spent at MIL's because that's what one does at Easter here.

Bellatrix would definitely smell of Poison Green! I'm not a massive HBC fan (more the type of films she makes than her) but she was magnificent as Bellatrix- perfect casting.

MrsCocoa · 01/04/2017 09:16

In Madame Rochas today to test a theory about Molly Weasley (look what you've started Green).

Think I may have to swerve the latest 4160 crowd sourcing as I want to try them all, but only the 2mls are in reach right now, and and I just end up feeling tantalised by them! Will wait til I can test and hope they release them in their brilliant 9ml format. I do like the yoga room concept,, and recognise the dilemma of fragrance potentially enhancing one's own state, but intruding on other people's....

OP posts:
VintagePerfumista · 01/04/2017 09:57

I am in old Fidji and feel very sophisticated in a 1970s kind of way.

I think Molly Weasley (who tbh, I find a bit weak- keep having all those kids despite having no money, not going out and getting a job etc etc) would wear whatever the latest fad was. She's not classy, or classic.

She'd be in Flowerbomb- and she'd wear too much because she'd think she was being posh.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 01/04/2017 12:00

Aw, I don't know if Molly Weasly could afford the latest fad... I like to think of her in some concoction the kids had made. The wizard version of rose petals in water! (And let's not forget she did for Bellatrix... Wink)

I guess I was just lucky with PP and their 3 day delivery first time around!!

LesIncompetents · 01/04/2017 17:18

My year 6 teacher at primary school back in the late 80s wore Poison (and lots of it) every day. I loved it, but although my nose didn't object, I have weirdly sensitive eyes and it used to make them water every time I went near her! Poor woman probably thought I was always on the verge of tears.

What do we think Dolores Umbridge would wear? I'm thinking pink but vintage... Fracas maybe?

Back in Vol de Nuit today, it seems to suit the changeable weather.

VintagePerfumista · 01/04/2017 17:58

Umbrage would wear Chanel 5 because she'd think it made her smell classy. like my SIL Grin

After my Fidji morning I am now in old Givenchy III. I must get one of the old full bottles hanging round ebay when payday comes. I'm down to about 3mls of my miniature bottle.

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/04/2017 18:13

SOTD is a Heeley sample - the leather and flowers one. I actually really like it, perfect for a day of pottering about inside while the weather goes from biblical rain to blinding sunshine every few minutes.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 01/04/2017 19:18

I used to drown myself in Fidgi in the late seventies. Oh I loved it.
I like this what would fictional characters wear game. I'm binge watching Buffy-what do you reckon the Scooby gang would wear? Willow something from Lush pre closet leaving, then something a bit sexier, Malles Carnal Flowers.Buffy's mum would wear arpege, something classic and 60s.cordelia (given that it was the 90s-)Giorgio Drusilla that really strong gross perfume I can never remember. Spike -L'egoiste. Buffy though?

GreenPolishToGo · 01/04/2017 19:52

Buffy...hmm, how about Angel? Grin

In my head I have now put poor Molly Weasley in Body Shop White Musk and sent her to the Ministry of Magic office Christmas party where she encounters a perfectly groomed Narcissa wafting a cloud of one of the Chanel Les Exclusifs. Whereupon Narcissa wrinkles her patrician nose and murmurs: "White Musk - I haven't smelt that since I left the Slytherin dormitories." And with her it most certainly isn't foot in mouth syndrome.

Professor Sprout I've given my SOTD - Vent Vert - to go with the greenhouses, Professor Trelawney gets L' Air de Rien or something very patchouli-heavy, Professor McGonagall, Je Reviens, Harry's mother, L' Air du Temps and Anais Anais - the poor woman deserves something nice to make up for her impending doom and prat of a husband.

Professor Umbridge did have a revoltingly girly side to her. Think of the bows and the fluffy kitten plates. So I can see her going for something aimed at teenagers. How about Aquolina Pink Sugar?

James Potter is the type to drown himself in Lynx and wait expectantly for females to find him irresistible. Sirius would probably pick something very classy and expensive, a Tom Ford of some kind maybe.

But what about Aunt Petunia? It's got to be something expensive, conservative and brag-worthy. Chanel maybe?

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 01/04/2017 20:14

Well done Green!
I reckon Petunia would be style over substance, something really expensive but awful.
Oh Sirius would def be a Tom Ford boy, something dark and sexy with lots of sandalwood.
Ron Weasley -Only the Brave or Diesel (which he got for Christmas)
Hermione would mix her own.

MrsCocoa · 01/04/2017 22:55

Nah Vintage! Molly Weasley wears something that had been on her dressing table forever, or was a hand-me-down from an older female relative. It's comforting or herbal rather than pretty.

MrsCocoa · 02/04/2017 09:11

Find of the week has been 5ml skin perfume from Caldey Abbey. The lavender soliflore of Turin/Sanchez fame isn't available in this format/size, but I've tried Island Gorse and No.1. They are both lovely - the former might appeal to Dirty Honey fans but is more beautiful and more floral.

Judydreamsofhorses · 02/04/2017 17:12

I have no idea who any of the people being discussed over this page are - am I missing something? SOTD is FM Lipstick Rose, perfect for lunch out on a sunny Sunday. I always love the first Sunday of the holidays so much, knowing there's a long lie and no teaching in the morning!

MrsCocoa · 02/04/2017 17:53

Harry Potter characters Judy.
