Friday's SOTD is Chanel 19 - a combo of 19 proper, 19 body lotion, then a quick squirt of Poudre before heading out the door.

Calminaqualm · 17/03/2017 12:53

My SOTD is Caribbean Joe, a cheap and cheerful sweet, creamy citrus with caramel undertones. It was sunny first thing this morning, so it suited somehow. The bottle is shaped like sugar cane, and the box says it is "For Girl"!

MrsCocoa · 17/03/2017 18:02

Have had a lovely day smelling of cigar smoke and the pudding trolley in The Great Randello. Makes me laugh every time I wear. On the FB list.

Shattered....started in Anyway and will leave Candy Perfume Boy to have the last word. Big fat Meh. JHAG is most definitely not communicating what it wants to to me at the moment! Have tried 3 and all 3 are pretty meh. Anyway was just bloody odd. Smelt vaguely fresh but with an undertone of something rancid (looking up the notes, presumably the jasmine) then within an hour, nada.

So had a shower and went off in Eau du Sud, am almost at the end of the sample and whilst Jade is pretty much identical, EdS lasts much longer and I deffo need a FB for the coming spring and summer.

At the staff meeting was discussing perfume with the one colleague who "gets" me and another (hearing us talk Chanel 19) said "oh what does n 5 smell like?" She's always thought about smelling it, what with it being so famous and all, but never got round to it.

My colleague was unimpressed with my Chanel 19/Cabochard?oldDior hauls as she says they are "strong". Confused

VintagePerfumista · 18/03/2017 08:26

Scent Samples have 15% of all "green" fragrances this weekend.

not going to look

GreenPolishToGo · 18/03/2017 10:39

Ohhh, look at all those pretty green bottles!

I really liked my JHAG sample yesterday. It was Lady Vengeance which turned out to be a gorgeous, overblown, trollopy affair of rose, patchouli and vanilla. Very, very sniff-able.

Robinia I used to have a cat who insisted on scrubbing every inch of exposed skin after I'd been swimming, but luckily none of them have insisted on washing off my perfume yet.

And squeeeee! My 'perks' from crowd-funding 4160 Tuesdays' latest venture have landed, all wrapped up in little twists of brightly coloured tissue paper like very posh sweeties. I shall spin out unwrapping them but I guessed the yellow one would be the new Lemon Sherbert scent and picked that one for today. It is lovely; a tangy, sweet lemon that settles down into a lemon and vanilla musk. I think my 9ml bottle will definitely need replacing when it's all used up.

MrsCocoa · 18/03/2017 12:15

The latest 4160 crowdfunded collaboration (with the Mrs Glossers) has landed. Lemon Sherbet. Fizzy citrus and vanilla essence.

Lemon sherbet sounds lovely, who could fail to love a perfume with that name?!

I am fed up and need a brand new perfume to raise my spirits I think, I know you guys will be able to inspire me!. Will have to be a sample as can't stretch to a FB. I'm torn between looking for a soft comforting vanilla type (like a cashmere blanket of coziness) or a bright citrus type to make me feel like Spring and Summer are coming. A sparkly one.

If any one has any ideas I am all ears. I'm sorry to be so self centred and moany on such a lovely usually cheery thread....

ADisappearingDreamofYesterday · 18/03/2017 12:19

Sorry - I am this thing under yet another namechange

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 18/03/2017 13:50

I got a sample of Mon Guerlain. Well it's ok.tobacco and vanilla, but a bit sweet for me. Not a classic.
I will not look at scent samples.
So tell us about this crowd funding? How much do you invest? How often, what do you get?
Lemon sherbet sounds delightful.

LesIncompetents · 18/03/2017 15:12

DisappearingDream sorry to hear you're feeling down Sad I immediately thought of Shalimar for you (if you haven't already tried it) citrus at the start and with a cozy amber/ vanilla drydown. The edp also has some smokiness and leather, but if you fancy something lighter maybe try the edt. Also Shalimar Souffle, which has lovely soft white flowers as well as the citrus/ vanilla.

VP I very rarely get comments on my perfume, but only seem to get complimented when I'm wearing more mainstream/ generic things. I was once told I smelled like Malibu & Coke whilst wearing 4160s What I Did On My Holidays (not quite the impression I wanted to make on the school run!)

SOTD is Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum, this is summer holidays in a bottle for me. Dreaming of warmer days to come!

ADisappearingDreamofYesterday · 18/03/2017 15:33

LesIncompetents funnily enough, I have never tried Shalimar which even I find hard to believe Grin

I did attempt to buy a sample recently but ended up with something different, I shall have another look as I've always liked the sound of it and I know it is loved here. Citrus and vanilla would cheer me up I am sure Smile

I think I'd quite like to smell of Malibu and coke too Grin

TweedyF · 18/03/2017 16:58

Hi everyone,
I've been following this thread for a little while and have found lots of perfumes to try. At the moment, I have fallen in love with Penhaligons Halfeti and Sisley Soir d'orient and can't decide which one to buy!

GreenPolishToGo · 18/03/2017 17:36

DisappearingDream sorry to hear you're fed up and hope you're feeling brighter soon.Flowers

My suggestions for cheering up purposes are: 4160 Tuesdays Sunshine & Pancakes - I smell lemon, honey and vanilla in this, although looking at the notes, vanilla isn't mentioned; 4160's new one Lemon Sherbert, which I am enjoying very much, although I'm not sure whether it's on general sale yet - the notes for this are lemon, orange, grapefruit, sherbert dibdabs, musk and vanilla - I'm smelling lemon, sherbert, musk and vanilla; and Atelier Cologne Bergamote Soleil, which is sunshine in a bottle for me and smells of bitter orange and bergamot.

OhWhat the best way to find out about 4160 Tuesday's crowd funding ventures is probably to keep an eye on their Facebook page. It's worth checking anyway for announcements of sales and special offers. It's quite straightforward to sign up to the individual ventures (the next is planned for autumn) and it doesn't commit you to joining any future ones. The one for Lemon Sherbert is closed but you can see the details of how it worked here. The lowest amount you could invest was £7 plus p&p, which got you 9mls of one of the four Mrs Gloss collaboration scents of your choice. I went for 9mls each of all four Mrs Gloss perfumes, which was the most popular 'perk'. I hope this helps and isn't isn't all as clear as mud!

Grin at smelling of Malibu and Coke on the school run!

ADisappearingDreamofYesterday · 18/03/2017 17:52

The very name Sunshine and Pancakes cheers me up Grin Thanks everyone for ideas, the Atelier colognes are on my wish list as have been recommended before and I know I would love them.

I shall hunt down a sample of Shalimar, I remember my mother having a very similar looking bottle on her dressing table, possibly with a tassel? Hmm.

It's interesting what perfumes are "noticed" by others, isn't it? Shamefully, one I have received many compliments on was my DD's Katy Perry perfume (can't remember the name, the bottle is shaped like a purple cat! Very sweet and blackcurranty I secretly love it Blush)

teta · 18/03/2017 17:54

Annick Goutal l eau d 'Hadrien is olfactory Prozac disappearing or California Reverie or Nerolia Bianca.Cheaper bottles are M&S Island Dream or Roger and Gallet do a absolutely delicious Moisturising Orange Spritz with Bienfat in the name.
I also tried Mon Guerlain today. It was so sugary that it made me feel ill and I had to beg the Boots lady for a Wipe.
Phaedon Lentisque is my Sotd. Its such an unusual green and the touch of Ambergris with the smoky dry Woods is addictive .I can't stop sniffing my wrists.Rather tempted to order a sample set but will wait for the Pure Distance set to arrive first.
Love the sound of Lemon Fizz.

Judydreamsofhorses · 18/03/2017 17:59

SOTD was MMM Untitled for a lovely sunny day, which was actually freezing. disappearing I like 4160 Tuesdays What I Did On My Holidays as a cheering scent. My favourite from there is The Gin Garden but I don't think they do it now.

NocturneGmajor · 18/03/2017 18:14

Tried out Fracas today, wasn't impressed.
Seemed very old fashioned, which is odd disparaging comment considering I really like No. 5

GreenPolishToGo · 18/03/2017 18:16

TweedyF Both of those are available as decants from The Perfumed Court so if you absolutely can't choose between them...Wink

DisappearingDream you mean Katy Perry's Purr - both it and Katy Perry's Meow (the pink cat bottle) are sitting on DD's dressing table. She got them for Christmas and, yes, we did buy them because the bottles were so cute. But she likes both perfumes too.

Badders123 · 18/03/2017 18:26

I'm so sad I don't really like any guerlains
Samsara is ok
Shalimar smells a bit "off" to me
HATE petit robe noir - but that's the cherry in
it I think
Mind you I don't like any Chanel either!

MrsCocoa · 18/03/2017 19:10

Sorry to hear you're fed up Ad. Les Nuits D'Hadrien is my ultimate comfort scent (the amber gives it cosiness). And you can't beat Shazam! for an instant mood boost.

Today's new 4160 would not be a bad bet either. Discussion here has prompted me to try Lemon Sherbert and an 80s Shalimar EDT side by side. There is a definite family resemblance (aunt & niece?). The 4160 opening is a fresher, and fizzier - not tart or bitter though - they are really beautifully balanced citrus notes. The Shalimar dry-down is more rounded and opulent; the 4160 is lovely, but lighter.

Think the next 4160 crowd funding opportunity may launch on Indiegogo as soon as next week? (The yoga room project)?

Judydreamsofhorses · 18/03/2017 19:39

I tried the Mon Guerlain earlier in the week and didn't much like it. I love Mitsouko and wear it a lot in autumn, but am not a fan of any others.

NocturneGmajor · 18/03/2017 19:41

Scrubbed off Fracas and replaced with Fierce for Her. Well its definitely modern! Reminds me of jo malone bay and blackberry.
I didn't like the new Guerlain one either, very sweet

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 18/03/2017 21:18

Cheers Green, sounds like a good investment.
At least the min Guerlain didn't last.
I fancied something cheap and cheerful too, and had a sniff in next. Do you know they do single scents for layering? Quite a good idea.

lasttimeround · 19/03/2017 12:16

Hmm got an Avon catalogue today - first time. Is there anything in there worth a punt scent wise?

Wearing premier Figuer today. Love it but it doesn't last long on me and it's v v dry
