Hello skanky scenters (ThisThing under a NC)

The workshop sounds amazing, sadly am far from London, and poor Grin but look forward to hearing details!

Skimming thread and stuck in a Paris wormhole as another busy medical week which requires comfort. Will prise it out of my hands and replace with Anais Anais I think, in a sort of two step reduction programme Wink

MrsCocoa · 15/03/2017 08:28

In a spring mist of Je Reviens this morning. Started off with a dab of vintage Ivoire (surprisingly animalic) but it sat sooo close to the skin and only whispered to me when I sniffed my wrist, have switched tack.

Rozy by Vero Profumo today and I can't shake off the association with Fuzzy Peach.Opens with a Transcendent Damask Rose which all too quickly morphs into Passion Fruit cocktail - No way this smells Niche.

VintagePerfumista · 15/03/2017 09:19

IfICanDream- what a lovely namechange! Both Paris and Anais Anais are my go-to comfort food scents, along with Dune.

Started off with Dans Tes Bras in an attempt to begin trying the multitude of samples I have accrued and never tried.

S'OK. It's nice. It's sweet. It's a watered down version of Apres L'Ondee and an even more watery Paris. It's pretty. It's inoffensive. It's Emperor's New Clothes as I find I feel about every Malle I've tried so far. Maybe I am missing some nuance or subtlety, but whilst I love the names, the perfumes themselves are resolutely generically nice. (an adjective I don't permit my students to use- go figure)

I have 5 hours of staff meetings with Scary Head this afternoon, so will go for the old bottle of 19 I think.

Maudlinmaud · 15/03/2017 16:21

I've just ordered 100ml of Roberto Cavalli serpentine, blind. I really like most of his offerings so fingers crossed.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/03/2017 16:29

Today I am in the decidedly un-skanky Diptyque Philosykos - I love this in springtime, and in autumn. My new spring calf-length mac is on, and the sun is shining here - my students could not have been more desperate to get away from me this afternoon.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/03/2017 16:29

(Oh, I mean to escape out into the sunshine, not because my perfume was stinky!)

LesIncompetents · 15/03/2017 19:19

I really, really want to come to the workshop, might have to see what I can eBay to raise some money. We have just paid for a much needed holiday and realised we now need to renew passports, plus our dishwasher conked out recently so it's been an expensive few weeks!

MrsCocoa · 15/03/2017 21:09

I see Ebay say the average home has £4,000 worth of unwanted items. (The unanswered question is whether anyone else wants them either? In my experience you can expend quite a lot of energy finding out the answer is not really...). Sad

MrsC you're probably** right, I found that baby stuff sold quite well but that's all gone now. Might have a delve around in the attic tomorrow and see what I've forgotten about up there! Of course, perfumes can fetch a fair bit but there's no way I'm letting go of any of my preciouses Wink

robinia · 15/03/2017 22:28

Like @YERerselSootTHEwindy I wear Estee Lauder Beautiful mostly and it gets noticed a lot and complimented on. I also wear White Linen occasionally but am going off it.
In the evening (going out) I wear Calvin Klein Obsession which also gets some attention Wink
I'd like to find something that's a bit like Obsession but lighter - not so overpowering - something I could wear from day going into evening.

MrsCocoa · 15/03/2017 22:33

Kon - was it green? If so, think it is Sheer Scent. I miss it too. Goes for ££££s on Ebay.

Ha! Kon are my long lost twin? That's a long term goal of mine! I find that combination of fresh, green, woody and wet, but not citrus sharp or galbanum bitter, quite elusive.

The listed notes are:
Bergamot, Precious woods, Iris, Jasmine, Laurel, Mandarin, Musk, Clary sage, Patchouli, Violet

Michael Edwards' FF suggests these as matches:

Jo Malone Nasturtium & Clover
Bottega Veneta Parco Palladiano II
Ombu Altaia

Ps .It came out in 1990. Caught my eye following a v early Katie Puckrick recommendation!

I hope the medical appointments go well IfICanDream Flowers. Vintage Miss Dior is my scent blanket but Anais Anais sounds like a very good choice too.

LesIncompetents I never realised horses could be such whiffy animals until DD started mucking about with them. Apparently Elizabeth Arden used to spray her horses with Blue Grass. If they were as pongy as the beasties DD rides she must have got through Blue Grass by the gallon. Bit of a waste of perfume, to my mind.

SOTD was Atelier Cologne Bergamote Soleil; sunshine in a bottle to match the sunshine outside.Smile

MrsCocoa · 16/03/2017 08:22

Started the day in vintage Vison. Starts of as a musky strawberry (ahh...how times change). Patchouli, ylang ylang and jasmine are due to make an appearance.

Temporarily lifted my Ebay spending ban to pick up a still wrapped bottle of 70s Tigress. There are four more bottles if anyone is curious.

Badders123 · 16/03/2017 08:28

Robina...have you tried knowing by Estée Lauder?
I'm an obsession fan too but wanted something different.

Well...my pp dupe arrived and...it's nothing like sun moon stars. At all!! So I won't bother again.

Awful migraine yesterday so didn't wear anything.

Still loving the Valentino - still only lasts about half an hour on me :(

LesIncompetents · 16/03/2017 10:45

Green my mind is boggled by the Blue Grass scented horses, it would take a lot of perfume to mask their natural smell (or maybe EA liked the combination? Who knows!)

Badders I think perfume parlour can be a bit of a gamble, I have a few of their oils and some smell very similar to the real thing whereas others are a bit off. Today I'm wearing the PP version of Armani's Cuir Amethyst, never tried the original to compare but this is a very nice powdery violet and suede combo.

Judydreamsofhorses · 16/03/2017 12:02

SOTD is Heeley Hippie Rose. I need something to perk me up and give me a bit of zing, I think, I'm so tired. This isn't doing it. I know citrus-y stuff is supposed to be the thing, but it's not my thing.

OCSockOrphanage · 16/03/2017 16:05

TF Grey Vetiver today, but it's gone already. Some last and last, but not this. So I've replaced it with the PP version of Sahara Noir, because I have lots of it and it's in the desk drawer!

GreenPolishToGo · 16/03/2017 23:36

I would like a Tigress, especially one with a stripy, furry lid. If your one turns out to be one of the furry ones MrsC I might not be able to resist, although I am also trying to curb my Ebay habit. The fact that I am sniffing a scent strip squirted with vintage Obsession and thinking: "How on earth did I manage to forget the smell of anything quite so overpowering?" is proof that I need to try harder.Blush

On the subject of big cats and Obsession, apparently the cheetahs in the Bronx Zoo dote on Obsession for Men. It's like catnip for them. Plain, ordinary Obsession, however, doesn't cut the mustard with plain, ordinary moggies. I offered the scent strip to one who sniffed it and sneezed loudly, while the other one just wrapped his paws more tightly around his nose. If the humans in the household also object I can always wear it for gardening. If it scares away midges I'll be delighted.

SOTD was Estee Lauder Private Collection - anything that loaded with galbanum is always going to be welcomed with open arms here. Gorgeous, green, grown-up stuff.Smile

robinia · 17/03/2017 01:56

@Badders123 Yes! I used to wear it actually and had forgotten about it. It's a good call - thank you for reminding me - will seek some out.

Re cats, my girl cat always washes my perfume off Angry Have to cover it all up to stop her!

MrsCocoa · 17/03/2017 04:53

Will report back on the Tigress Green. Listed as from 70s . There are several bottles - leftover stock from the closure of an old chemist shop. (£6.50 + postage).

I'm using up the last of my sample of Marc Jacobs Decadence today and it's actually grown on me. It is quite sweet and fruity but feels a bit more grown up than some of the candy floss offerings out at the moment.

There was a lady in her 80s next to me in the post office yesterday who smelled heavenly. I wish I'd asked her what she was wearing!
