Continuing the amazeballs work from the previous threads - come and join us and rejoice in the joy of using (up) beauty products Grin

Old thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2801640-Ashamed-of-my-beauty-product-hoard-part-4

My name is kwick and it has been 3 days 8 hours and 20 minutes since I last bought a beauty product...

user good work. That's impressive.
kwick I want to try that shower gel but really I could bath in neat shower gel for months and not get through my stash!

Finally finished a benefit highlighter that I've had for years and I'm setting my sights on another that is very old. I reckon I can mix with body lotion for hotter days and then use up something and avoid buying another!
News on soap mountain. In a couple of weeks, I may need to buy some more. It's been so long since I've needed to buy any, it could be a whole new world out there. Watch out lush!

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 29/04/2017 20:02

Love a bit of radox foam. Such a beautiful smell and retro bottle. Reminds me of xmas

mintmagnummm · 30/04/2017 07:16

Kwick the ginger one is lovely! That and the Shea vanilla one. The others I didn't like the smell of at all, so u definitely made a good choice Grin

Tubbybells · 30/04/2017 08:37

kwick I've been considering the index system - here goes

I've used Christmas as a cut off

Normal - something used from the stash previously started
something gifted / bought since Christmas used up
somthing started since Christmas

Tubbybells · 30/04/2017 08:58

Oh n going to keep the numbers sequential as Infiniti does

*42.Sanctuary spa - rose shower gel
43.Sanctuary - rose body scrub both Christmas presents
44. Burts bees orange cleansing balm - love it *
^45-49 - Doir samples, eye cream serum etc
50. Decalor eye cream sample - loved it kind of a yellowish - seemed to brighten
51.decalor serum / oil sample
52. Dove deodorant ^
53. Origins ginger roll on perfume

I've failed on the nillus spendus again. Bought some new nip fab foundation and primer. - looks very promising.

Tubbybells · 30/04/2017 08:59

Preview fail - must try harder on the index for next post

FrustratedFrugal · 30/04/2017 09:08

The index system sounds great. I've found that mixing stale old staples with forgotten gems and tempting new purchases works really well. And that small, achievable goals will feel more motivating than extensive long-term ones. I only got going with #12disciples when I gave up on trying to finish 12 full-size products (!!!) and decided to allow minis too.

Today's achievement:
9/12, Aveda All Sensitive Moisturizing Lotion 30ml

Some impromptu DIYing: I have half a tub of Freeman's body butter that smells fantastic but feels waxy and hard to apply. I adore whipped body butters and had a brainwave: I mixed the last drops of the Aveda body lotion with the body butter using my Kitchen Aid mixer, much in the same way that you would mix butter and egg yolks or caster sugar for a cake batter. It worked out really well, the body butter now has a fluffier consistency and was really easy to apply. My goal: after I am done with this, I get to buy something yummy from Joik as a reward Wink

Great progress everyone!

I had to check out that Red Beauty Box and it looks lovely. Please enjoy it and do not feel guilty, cosmetics are fabulous and everyone needs some new playthings every now and then Wink

FrustratedFrugal · 30/04/2017 09:11

Oh and for those who do consecutive numbers, I have finished 22 products this year (including three lipsticks and one eye palette!) - feels great ☀️

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/04/2017 09:53

I got an Elemis TSV (Todays Special Value) last week.
I was dithering because I don't like lavender but its "Sea Lavender" and smells more oceanic than English Country Garden.

There's a serum (very nice) and the Pro Collagen night cream (not used it yet) .
Body lotion (I will use when I can ) DD took the handcream.

Bought 2 of the Waitrose shower gels (£1 each very nice)

I saw the SoaperDuper in Tesco, might buy for DS?

I do have empties: a Superdrug foaming cleanser (pump bottle)
An N'Spa scrub (ok but a bit gritty)
Lush -Ocean Salt Scrub (gone out of date but I survived)

FiveShelties · 30/04/2017 10:15

Well done everyone - I wonder how much stuff has been finished since kwick started these threads and, just how much new stuff we have resisted purchasing!

I have two empties to report, both from the Soap & Glory Xmas Box. One is Speed Plump All Day Moisturiser and the other is the Body Moisturiser. I loved both of them and would definitely re-purchase if there were not many items in reserve.

I have one week to go until I move and unless I finish about 25 items a day I am going to have to leave most of the stuff here. Strange though I have managed to finish the wine stock Grin

kwick · 30/04/2017 11:52

Phew @mintmagnummm I nearly got the vanilla one but it smelt very sweet.

Well done - amazeballs progress!

Wow @FrustratedFrugal you are inventive!!

@FiveShelties I absolutely cannot take credit for the thread - I joined when already it was up and running - I just seem to start the new ones when it gets full blatant hijacking
For me being part of this community has had so many benefits:

  • I have found out I am not alone in my addiction
  • I have found even greater joy for choosing and using products
  • I have rekindled my love affair with makeup
  • I have a real sense of achievement from creating small milestones which I actually achieve (wish I could do the same with weight loss for example)
  • I have met all you kindred spirits

oops sorry kwick

I love this thread, I was quite shocked at how much stuff I had and that I just kept purchasing and not using. I really enjoy using my stash now and that together with 'meeting' other acquirers has been excellent.

I now am trying to decide which items to take with me, so selecting those I love, but it is proving a little difficult ☺

kwick · 30/04/2017 15:52

But @FiveShelties why do you have to choose and can I have the stuff you leave behind?

OP posts:
mintmagnummm · 30/04/2017 16:54

Yes kwick the vanilla one is quite sweet and I'm definitely getting the ginger one next Grin

FiveShelties · 30/04/2017 18:08

kwick - I leave for NZ on Sunday, most stuff shipped, but only have a suitcase to fill for flight! Have been here for 3 years and brought stuff here and have more than added to it whilst I have been here!

I will be returning regularly so will use some of the stuff and obviously will not buy anything else whilst I am here Grin. When I leave for good I will send you a box full of stuff - you will curse me for months!!!

kwick · 30/04/2017 21:35

You are too kind @FiveShelties 💕

Right I am trying out a new beauty thing - castor oil on roots, eyelashes and eyebrows. Really hope to sort my scalp issues. Oh to be to not have to wash hair daily and have long lucious locks...

One empty in the last week or so..... Clinique Take The Day Off cleansing balm. A staple for me and have another one in my stash but I will have a dig through my pile to see if I can find a 30ml sample tube of something to use up before I crack open the next tub.

Strawberryfield12 · 01/05/2017 08:26

Used up last night the Dr.Sebagh repair serum. With so many raving about his products and treatments feels almost wrong to say it didn't seem to change much/ anything. I am starting to use Espa glow collection, 4 fairly small products. Thanks to advent calendar and discount code in magazine I have ended up with a number of their minis, but so far no miracles happening.

Got rid of benefit they are real mascara last night as well, it still had some in but I tend to throw them out after 3-4 months use. Actually, I quite liked it. On to origins one today.

Well, if anyone wants to get hold of the Red beauty box, with "BANKHOLIDAY" it's £25.

ememem84 · 02/05/2017 08:13

Placemarking will update later

lifeistooshort · 02/05/2017 09:42

Username I have not had olpaplex but I have used something similar which you can get on Amazon (colorphlex) and it is really good. I will use again.

One more empty for me. I have just finished the bare mineral complexion rescue which I have had for ever. It is ok but a bit too pearly for me. I don't think I will buy again. I am down to my last BB cream in the stash.

kwick · 02/05/2017 09:54

Decided to not wash hair this morning- am really regretting that now... feel like a grease ball 😢

Haven't made huge progress as my grandmother passed away quite suddenly shortly after Easter, so my mind has been elsewhere. Her death has made me think, though, about my approach to shopping among other things. My gran was born in 1925, lived through the war and was working class through and through. I have no doubt she'd have been horrified to know how much money I spend on beauty products and clothes, so that's made me that much more motivated to keep going with this!

As for empties, I have:

  • travel size Clinique pep-start eye cream (loved it, have already purchased a full size one as I genuinely needed eye cream);
  • travel size Clinique take the day off: ok but won't buy again. In fact, can't wait to get through my make up remover stash and go back to my beloved Liz Earle;
  • full size Avene Cleanance Hydra cream (always have one on back up, it's great for my sensitive skin and doesn't cost loads);
  • full size pink grapefruit shower gel I acquired during a long ago beach holiday and which I was desperate to bin (who brings shower gel home from their holidays, who?!).

Plus, have binned a Bobbi Brown lipstick in Sandwash Pink that had started to smell funny and sold on ebay an Estee Lauder cleanser and a Dior nail polish (one of the fancy Christmassy ones) that were sitting about unused and unloved.

Only money spent in April on beauty products has been on said Clinique eye cream and a Sephora concealer I always keep a spare of (my new favourite after I downgraded from Touche Eclat). I'm actually rather proud.

Hi all - been completely off line since Friday - twas fabulous!! Anywho - have finished my Palmolive very boring shower gel and had written in my phone: SG SD at Tescos - could not for the life of me remember what it meant - it was Soaper Duper Shower Gel which I want to try!! As I couldn't remember what it was went with Waitress essentials Camomile - it'll be fine - boring but fine, was sorely tempted to go down the S&G shower creme - but thankfully stopped myself - the last time the bottle seemed never ending and I hated the smell by the end

Skin has broken out in cystic spots - think it is either Clinique take the day off or the never ending Elizabeth Arden SPF for face. Thought it was just TOTM but its clearly not as another one appeared over night.

The ordinary Buffet and Rose-hip oil are improving the rest of the face just these bloody spots!! will keep going with both for a month and see how they fair!

mintmagnummm · 02/05/2017 14:30

Plum Clinique ttdo balm gave me spots!
